Hi, I'm going on this trip, can't wait! Do we really have to help sail the ship and do iceburg watch duty? Where are you travelling from? I'm in Scotland so I guess the weather might be quite similar..Have you got your winter outfit? I've bought binoculars and am chewing over wether I should buy a new camera or not..

Hi Marcus, great to hear from you. I am so excited about this trip, not long to go now. I am from Birmingham, where in Scotland are you from? Yes I have my winter coat and willies ready to go, and I have a very special hat (a gift from friends). How about you? I am really looking forward to helping to sail the ship. Do you think they will put people in a crow’s nest to look out for icebergs ha ha.

Hi Kath, sorry just getting back to your message, been working loads to pay for this holiday..don't think I've paid for much of it..Nearly time to go! Really hope we see some polar bears! Really hope I don't get seasick- do you have good sea legs? Do pills work? Love to see the Northern lights too..fingers crossed.

Wonder how much sailing we have to do? Will we have to go on iceburg watch? Will there be a bath on board? Hot tub? Cinema? Are you going to take snow/walking poles? It's dead exciting! I love the snow! Wish it was for longer but will probably need another holiday to recover when it's over- I'm not rushing back to work! See you soon!

Hi, how are you? Im sorry to say I don’t think there will be a bath, hot tube or cinema lol just hopefully lots of polar bears to watch! I have never been seasick so have no idea about pills for it, is this your first trip on a boat? I don’t think we have to do any sailing if we don’t want to but I can’t wait to help out. Being on night watch would be an experience lol.

No I am not taking snow/ walking poles, are you? I love the snow too, I am getting really excited now! Are you flying straight from Scotland or do you need to travel down to London?

Hello to you both.  I have also booked to go on this trip and am really looking forward to it. Not really organised yet apart from a new pair of wellies.  I have no idea what to expect but unfortunatley Marcus I doubt there will be any luxuries :-) Just wildlife, scenery and fingers crossed northern lights.

Hi Nic, its great to hear from you, it is really nice to get to know people a little before we travel. I am so excited I can’t wait. Only 44 days left till we go! Will you both be on the 17:30 flight from Heathrow? I think it is a group flight but not sure : - )

Tue, 08/28/2012 - 17:33

Hi Kath, Thanks for your response.  I'm really looking forward to it as well , it is getting quiet close now.  The trip will be unlike anything I have done before.  I'm looking forward to meeting you both.  With regards to flights.... I am flying out on the 10th from Heathrow via Copenhagen & Oslo so not the most direct way :-)  So fingers crossed if everything goes according to plan I will be in Longyearbyen from about lunch time on the Thursday.  I am on the same flights as the group flights on the way back on the 17th.

Hi Nic, I am looking forward to meeting everyone too! This is going to be an amazing adventure! Wow that is funny route to take but hey it doesn’t matter how everyone gets there does it : - ) May I ask where are you from? As you may have read I’m from Birmingham. I keep reading over the trip notes to make sure I have got everything. It is hard to imagine just how cold it is going to be :- )

Wed, 08/29/2012 - 22:13

Hello Kath.  Yes the route to longyearbyen seams odd but due to timings & availability was the best option on the way out as I live in South Wales :-) You are much more organised than me, I have not thought about what I need to take yet.  Have you needed to get a lot of extra gear to go?  I should have the right sort of stuff it just a case of being selective I always pack far too much, which is not an option on this trip:-)  What are you looking forward to the most?

Thu, 08/30/2012 - 08:52

Hi Nic, I have only brought a new coat and wellingtons so far. I have decided that I’m going to need a good water proof and warm outer shell so I still need to get water proof trousers, gloves etc. I have not got any of the silk layers they suggest in the trip notes and I don’t plan on getting any. That could be a mistake we will have to just wait and see : - ) what are you planning on packing? Now that is a difficult question, I have to say I am looking forward to every aspect of this trip but if I had to pick one thing it would have to be seeing polar bears! To see them in the wild would just be amazing. How about you, what are you looking forward to most?

Thu, 08/30/2012 - 21:16

Hi Kath,  You are definatley more organised:-) I've not seen the recommendations on what to take.  I should have most things & will take plenty of layers.   Like you I am looking forward to the trip getting away from it all for a week & seeing some great scenery, wildlife and hopefully the elusive northern lights.  I look forward to meeting you both.  Take Care Nic
