Lapland Adventure Week December - Kit!

Mon, 11/23/2009 - 12:48

I understand from the Trip Notes that a lot of clothing will be provided for the Lapland Adventure  trip.  I wanted to sort out what additional warm clothing I will need  - could anyone give me some guidance on what I should I pack for this trip - aside from thermals.  In addition, please do let me know if there is anything else I should not leave home without!  I am not normally this organised, but I will not have much time next month to organise myself for the trip.

Many thanks

Hi there,

Well the good news is the snow has been in Lapland for a few weeks now and the temperatures are below freezing with clear sunny days - all the ingredients for a successful winter holiday. Regarding the clothing, yes your full arctic clothing (including boots, mittens and a hat) is provided so really i just suggest bringing your thermals, fleeces and jackets and just casual clothing and footwear to wear in the evening. Aside from clothes definitely bring a swimming costume along for the sauna, some lipbalm and a small daysack.

Hope you have a great time...and get to see the Northern Lights!!!

Not sure what this trip involves however following night be helpful. I've been dogsledging several times and experienced temperatures down to -20C. Normally you get supplied with thermal overalls, boots, gloves and a hat however please check (hats and gloves are adequate but normally poor quality).  Specially useful were ski goggles, close fitting balaclava, head torch and especially hand warmers (cemical reaction packs). I had two pair of gloves - a thin pair under the best quality mits I could purchase. Take warm socks and don't choose tight boots! Take some snacks (food was poor on one of my trips).
