Kili Rongai Route - June 10th

Hi All,

For some reason this won't let me filter the Sunday 10th climb from the Saturday 9th one but would love to chat to any fellow travellers that may be joining us?!  Two guys from North Devon in England who are training very hard and cannot wait!

Hope to speak to people soon...

Hi, I'm leaving a couple of weeks after you guys on the 22nd to do the same route.

How is the training going, what sort of thing are you doing? Have you ever done anything like this before? This is my first trek, I've done Snowdon and Helvellyn over the last couple of months for training but these have been my first real mountains. I keep going from being excited to terrified about the whole thing.

Good luck with all your prep, and good luck on the mountain.

Hi Jody,

Training is going really well but I'm the same as you - excited to terrified to excited again! We've walked 200+ miles around the whole North Devon coast, loads of hills and pushed really hard wearing backpacks with 3 litres of water and all of our waterproofs etc. but still hoping we're fit enough.

Haven't actually had the chance to do Snowdon but have done a couple of 25 mile+ days so think we're okay in terms of distance (nothing like that on the mountain) and uphill seems okay - more worried about the downhill bits!

We've bought loads of kit but reading all the blogs and forums everyone has different advice and, like others, we've probably bought far too much.

Good luck with your trek, I'll post when we get back on the 18th and let you know how we got on.

Hi David,

Sounds like you are doing really well with your training. I live in Berkshire so not a great deal of hill walking to be done but I have been carting a couple of bricks everywhere in my backpack to try and help things along. I'll be taking them out again this weekend though to give Snowdon another go. I haven't done any long walks like you guys but I am trying to get some in over the weekends before we go, although they keep flying by and I still don't seem to have managed it.

I know what you mean about kit, I could open an outdoor store with all the stuff I have bought. I had to clear out a 'Kilimanjaro' drawer to try and clear it all away!

Any last minute advise would be brilliant it's hard trying to get ready for something when you have no idea what to expect...

Good luck and happy packing

Hi David,

How did you guys get on. I hope that you had an amazing trip. I head off on Friday. I seem to be having a calm day today, although that doesn't mean tomorrow won't bring blind panic again.

Fingers crossed that your toenails are still in tact.
