Mon, 05/13/2013 - 10:54

Hi Hazel I'm getting the bus down to heathrow the day before we travel and spending the night in a travel lodge I think I'm on the group flight.

I've started to do a bit of training myself i've been walking up snowdon every other weekend I know this year is flying by.

I need to buy some new boots and a few other bits and bobs are you all set for the trip?

Hi Steve,

only 7 weeks to go!!, i feel like i havnt got anything organised yet!

My training isnt going as well im afraid, as can only get to the gym at the moment but going into the dales next week.

due to the flight times i think im going to get a train to the airport the day we go and stay over the evening we get back.

i still need to buy a few things but think i have the essentials sorted, do you think we need down jackets for August? im wondering wether to hire one or not.

Hi Hazel

I was thinking the same don't know wether to take a down jacket but it does get cold at night do you think we need to take a mosquito net and are we carrying all are stuff on the trek or leaving part of it at the hotel.

Do you want to swap numbers so we can find each other at the airport?

Wed, 07/03/2013 - 15:00

Hi Steve,

I dont think we need a mosquito net as we will be above 2000 meters, and i dont think ill take a down jacket as iv been told it shouldnt drop below freezing at night, im just going to take layers and a hat and gloves if it gets too cold!

I think we leave the main luggage at the hotel and the kit bag is taken on the trek, which the porters carry, we just carry a rucksack with whatever we will need for the day.

My training is still not too great but went on a 12 mile walk up Ingleborough and it rained all day, but at least i found out that my coat works haha.

I dont know what phone ill be taking with me as my current one only has a battery life of a day i know i wont be using it much but i might just take a cheap one, are you on Facebook? you can add me on there if you want to my last name is Norton

only 35 days to go!! not that im counting lol

Hi Hazel hope your doing well I had a little look on facebook for you but didn't know which one you were so I guess I'll catch you in the airport only 15 days to go!

Hope you dont mind me butting in here but I did the Inca Trail with Exodus last August and was v grateful for my down jacket - it really was cold at night both in Cusco after dark and when on the trail. Most of our group had down jackets with them & don't think anyone regretted bringing them :-) I suppose it depends on whether you feel the cold or not - I do!

Have a great trip - it's a fantastic experience!

thanks for the tip about the Jackets, do you know what the ones to hire were like? it was basicaly the cost of them that was putting me off buying one! but have two fleeces and thermals that im taking with me.

too many decisions haha!

Hi Steve i hadnt realised what a popular name i had lol, i dont really want to put an e-mail address or phone number on here as its an open forum.

have you booked seats on the flight?

its approaching quite fast now, had a practice packing my kit bag, and think im just below the 7kg limit including sleeping bag! im quite impressed :)

Hello Janie and Steve. We are joining the trip on 8th August too and also quite confused about what to take. The kit bag itself seems pretty heavy so once the 2kg sleeping bag is packed not sure how much else we can pack. We don't have down jackets and are hoping several fleeces plus base layer will be enough but I may ask about hiring them. We are a family of 3, dad aged 55, mum 47 and 17 year old daughter. Quite anxious re the second days climb but going to gym and just had fabulous sunny week in The Lake District where we walk a lot. We are going to Cusco the previous weekend so have several days to acclimatise and then joining the group at the Cusco Hotel als breaking our journey home with a few days in Madrid so need all sorts of different clothes. Looking forward to the challenge, the scenery and meeting avaryone, Catherine

Sorry don't know what the jackets you can hire were like - mine is a lightweight North Face one which packs down small so didn't really add to the weight too much. I had a fleece and thermal top underneath when wearing it as well as found the temperature really dropped after dark when you're just sitting around and not really doing much.

Don't worry about the trip - I won't lie - the 2nd day is tough but I'm early fifties and managed it (I am definitely not superfit being just an average weekend walker really!) You can take things at your own pace - there will be some that power on ahead at great speed but you can miss a lot doing that- I took it slowly so I could take in the fantastic scenery, wild flowers, humming birds etc - wonderful!

Hi Hazel yep i'm nearly all packed I think I've got everything I need in my kit bag haven't booked my seats on the plane yet heres my e mail address [email protected] if you want to get in contact.

Hi Cagpe I'm just taking a thin down jacket flecce and some base layers I think you can hire things in Cusco if you need them so I wouldn't worry see you next week.
