Footwear for CFA Finnish Wilderness?

Fri, 12/30/2011 - 01:07

Hello all

I'm booked on CFA Finnish Wilderness Week and wondered if anyone can give me advice for footwear? I was planning to take my walking/hiking boots, will these be OK for snow-shoeing and husky sledding? Not sure if we get specialist boots for snow-shoe, presume we do for cross country ski-ing? I'm new to all this winter activities, as you might be able to tell, so any kind advice is appreciated!

Thank you

hi there,

On this trip you don't need to take any specialist outdoor clothing or footwear as everything is provided locally. Have a look below at the full description of what's included, and what you'll need to take. If you have any other questions please just ask. many thanks, Tom

Equipment Provided: The following clothing is issued on arrival and

are yours throughout the week:

Full winter outfit including jacket and trousers, fleece jacket and

trousers, thermal underwear (top and bottom), woollen hat and

mittens, gloves, boots and socks. A thermos flask, backpack and

headtorch is provided for your use during the week at Basecamp. You

do not need to bring any winter clothing with you as it is all supplied

locally but we recommend you bring enough clothes for evening wear.

If you have a shoe size of 12 or over, you contact us so we can be

sure to arrange that the right snowshoe or ski-boot size is available.

For the optional snowmobile excursion a more insulated snowmobiling

overall and helmet will be provided.

You will need the following :

As full winter clothing is provided we only recommend you to bring

enough clothes for evening wear. It is also recommended that you

bring your own thermals and socks as although these are offered to

you, these are items that are sometimes more personal.

Other equipment: casual footwear for evenings and travelling,

swimming costume (for sauna and hot tub). From the last week of

February onwards: sunglasses and sun-cream.

i went on this last year. the snow shoes, ski's and walking poles are yours to use for the whole week. I'd recommend some games as the evenings can be long.

....for your replies!

One more question: is there any Internet access at Oulsanka? I am planning to bring my iPad for the evenings and just wondered if I will be able to keep in touch with my family whilst I am away as my father is not well at the moment.

Thanks again

Hi there.  Sorry for the delay.  There isn't immediate access at Basecamp Oulanka, however, you will be able to ask the staff if you can use their computer for internet access if you need to get hold of your father.  They will be more than happy to help!

Have a great trip!
