Anyone else for Kili Lemosho and Zanzibar?

Sun, 08/08/2010 - 19:24

My daughter Catherine and I are doing this trip and it's getting a bit close! Would value anyone else responding re preparations. Exodus say we only walk six or so hours a day and start early, so even if we do another walk in the afternoon we have some time hanging around camp. Is there some kind of chair provided? is anyone else considering bringing one of those converters for your sleeping mat?

Is boiled water OK or do we need additional sterilisation methods?

Is everyone taking Diamox or how about Gingko biloba? Opinions seem divided. Maybe we won't need either.

Hello Jim thanks for making contact. Regret cannot make Snowdon this weekend, since we are going to Dorset (not quite as hilly but we will put in some distance) for the week.

Best wishes and hope your training goes well

Hi Ray, Catherine and Martha, I'm Peter. I am doing the sept 30 trek with you guy's along with my friend Jim. We are both very active 50+. We wont be on the flight with you as we are flying Bristol/Amsterdam/kili on wednesday morning so we get an extra nights sleep before you arrive (hey, come on, we are getting on a bit now).

Hi every one, just back after completing kili, we were a group of 12 and 11 made it to the top, ages ranged from 27 to 71. We did Mt Meru first, this helped with the altitude. Enjoyed the trip greatly. You get very dirty due to the dust once up in the desert plane. Important note, you should wear all your essential gear as bags go missing in NairobiWishing you all the best and good LuckJim

Hi everybody ... I'm Tara and I'm doing the trek with my sister Kerry & a friend Armann ;-)

Jim ... I'm slightly concerned with your comment of you suggesting to wear all our essential gear .. How many bags went missing?

Really getting excited & looking forward to the challenge ;-)

I flew in direct from amsterdam, the rest of group (11) came via Nairobi, all there bag did not arrive with them, took rest of day to get from Nairobi then taxi to hotel at there exspense. one bag took 5 days to turn up so Juile had to buy, borrow and hire gear to climb Mt Muru first part of trip. Exodus said they coud not do anything. Seams this happens offten

Hi everyone - I'm intending to pack waterproofs, hat, muff, gloves, a base layer, a couple of fleeces and first aid kit and a few pairs of socks in my back pack. that should hold me over for a few days if main bag goes missing - speaking of which, I don't seem to have enough room to pack my kit in the bag they provided - I'm clearly allergic to packing!

Looking forward to it now :-)
