Malaria Risk - Darjeeling/Bhutan/Sikkim

I was wondering whether anyone has strong views from experiences in Darjeeling, Bhutan and Sikkim (travel in March and April) as to whether anti-malarials are wise. I would rather not take them and the trip notes mention that there is a low risk level, but I'd be grateful for any views on this! I'm checking with my travel clinic next week but often personal traveller advice is also incredibly useful and up to date! Many thanks in advance....

Hi There

I'm Jason the pharmacist for Nomad.  Here's some feedback on your questions: The bottom part of Bhutan is malarial. Sikkim risk if very low - the same as for Darjeeling.  Unless you are in an affected part of Bhutan, you will be ok with bite avoidance only. If you would like to read more about bite avoidance you can visit the Nomad website http://www.nomadtravel.co.uk/pages/insect-borne-diseases
