everyone sounds so organised. I still have to lay everything out and make sure I have it all. The excitement is building up now. Can't wait to meet you all and have a blast! I'll have my Exodus tag on my hand luggage and I'll be on the lookout for everyone.

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on the size of the hand luggage?

How many dollars have you reckoned on paying for rabies protection duties? I had my third jab today - plus flu and swine flu and thought 100$ per rabid animal...... !!

I have my final law exam on wed the 20th !!! Hooray this is my sixth and final year ... so to celebrate this and turning the BIG ?? 30? I got a group of us together to go on the inca ... we have been planning this for years ... Anyweway from 12 of us we are down to 4.

Alan
Julie
Dawn
and myself

The thing I am looking forward to the most is an adventure of a lifetime ... meeting new people and doing the white water rafting.

It has been suggested to me by people who have done this before that we bring gifts of food ie biscuits or fruit etc to take to the family that we do the 'homestay' with ... I believe they don't get to leave the place much .... the suggestion was to buy a few goodies friom Cuzco

How this will work praticably I have no idea .... but ... we will work it out...

Look forward to meeting you all and making great new friendships

A suggestion ... I just got our 4 kits bags which are the same ... 16 bags on the trip all the same colour ... logistical nightmare .... lol. So I guess if we tie a coloured ribbon or string to the handle ... they might be easier to identify ...

Anonymous
Thu, 10/14/2010 - 11:07

But it would be so much fun each night to see what you had in the kit bag you thought was yours!

Anonymous
Thu, 10/14/2010 - 22:54

Heather ... Exactly lol ... especially if they own better kit than the kit I have begged ... borrowed ... and stolen

Anonymous

I am not sure about this lol ... but am sure you all will not know what I look like so ... frizzy hair.... here we come...... but i guess the worse bit is no toilets for the ladies ... the guys are fine ... they don't have to drop their trousers like us ladies .

But I will be fine really ... I managed to look a drenched wreck when I climbed snowdon as it rained continously ... a wreck when I climbed Ben Nevis and Mt Sinai ... so I will just looked a wreck again climbing the inca

Hi All,

Sheena - I have also just turned the BIG 30, yesterday in fact hence my reason for doing the trip also!! As for make-up - I will be bringing my mascara, can't live without that (I'm so vain!!), straighteners - I'll also be in the frizzy hair camp, think we just need to embrace it!!
8 days to go, yippeeeee!!!!!

Hi all
I was beginning to wonder whether everyone booked on our trip was now communicating on here as there seemed so many - so I counted and came to more than should be going! However I counted Allan + 4 but hopefully some of those 4 are e-mailing seperately otherwise we are overbooked - or someone thinks they're going on the wrong departure!
Wayne, Heather, Becki, Ken, Sarah, Sara, Phil, Allan K, Chris, Sheena, Alan, Julie, Dawn makes 13 and David who has had to pull out and is the one space still available. So only two more people to name - but Allan K is in a group with 4 others so presume at least two are already in list! Either Becki and Ken or Sara and Phil. We shall find out. Or as I said we're overbooked! OK - start guessing my occupation....

Hi Heather - wow! An accountant by any chance? Ken and I are coming as a couple, not part of any group. Good to know some names before we start the holiday, but I'm telling you all now that i will need reminding several times a day to start with before I remember you all!
Got our kit bags yesterday, will try and squeeze the pile of kit on our sofa into it in a trial run this weekend! Impressed with bag - do we have to give it back at the end of the holiday?

Anonymous
Fri, 10/15/2010 - 09:07

You get to keep the bag - I have seen people with blue, maroon and green as well as black so don't know if it's a different colour each year or what! I sit at a computer all day so get messages as soon as posted during the day - there's a hint!

Anonymous
Fri, 10/15/2010 - 09:13

Hi Heather - I'm in Sheena's group.. so there's myself, Sheena and 2 others (Dawn and Julie).. so I think that makes 13. We also had a 5 person in our group who was going to be coming from australia, but pulled out.
just over a week to go... now gotta put everything on my floor and start mock-packing!! Allan

Anonymous

Sarah ... i will be bringing mine as well lol ... surely it is a necssity and not a luxury

Our 4 kit bags were black

Anonymous
Fri, 10/15/2010 - 21:44

.. the colour of the trip it seems! I make the number 12 + David who had to drop out so 3 unknowns. But we'll very soon find out. Is anyone taking a down jacket? Can't decide if the damp might ruin it.

Becki - you're close - I am on my third career in accounts as opposed to an accountant. Did accounts exams and am more qualified now by experience so am leaving it at that.

hey all 7 days and counting,15 black kit bags that will be fun lol we must be given lables for them on the trek or it will be a nightmare lol. Heather im not taking a down jacket they are so expensive im just taking lots of layers and good waterproofs, I have got everything layed out in the order i have to pack it now and it only weighs in at 15kg(room for some more maybe lol).

Hi all,

Sara and I are coming as a couple and not part of a group, so still a possible spaces.

Sounds like a big packing trial run this weekend, had a last minuet though about spare camera batteries and memory card as will have to go for five days during the Inca trial with no possibilty of recharging any thing.

We are up for some white water rafting as well Sheena, cant wait. Not sure the next week at work is going to be very productive, but think it's only fair to allow a wind down week.

My down jacket was purchased two years ago in Khatmandu for £28 - good reason for doing Annapurna Sanctuary trek!

Has anyone tried checking in online at BA website and if so have they been able to checkin right the way through to Lima?

Hi all, I will definately be up for water rafting I have done it before and it was ace. I am going to sound like an idiot but what is a down jacket? Heather- I think $100 dollars is fair. chris

Anonymous
Sat, 10/16/2010 - 14:14

Chris
Down jacket is one made of duck or goose down and is very very light but very very warm. In UK they are £150 upwards.
I love rafting but having flown in to Cusco which is at altitude I may need the day to acclimatise. Have heard of people struggling to walk up a few steps on arrival so will see how I am. Also there's another trip to Sacred Valley which I think can help "aclimatisation". Having done rafting recently in Turkey in June may opt for that if I need it!
$100 it is then Chris.

Hi all,
Heather i'v had my rabies jabs as well, i might be able to undercut you here he he lol. I think im going to do the sacred valley tour as well or maybe just the city tour (really want to see cusco) ill wait and see how i feel when we get there. Are any of you guys taking any smart clothes for any of the evenings, im traveling in jeans (i think lol) thinking i should take 1 nice shirt. 6 days to go im buzzing now, just wanna get on that plane. wayne

hi Wayne
telepathic lines between Northampton and cambridge are working well! last night I suddenly thought "yikes - need other clothes for eating out." Wouldn't say I was going for "smart" but just clean "other" clothes rather than what I trek in. It's so much easier when you're in camp most nights not hotels! Think we eat out 6 or 7 nights so the number of clean shirts depends on how much food you spill down your front.......
Heather
PS Chris may reckon female flesh is tastier so pay the premium rate for added protection.

But I not sure whether I will have space Wayne ... but its not a bad idea ...

Anonymous
Mon, 10/18/2010 - 09:42

Hi all,
I'm not sure about 'smart' clothes, but planning on taking some normal t-shirts and tops, and wearing jeans to travel in. I think you might all see the same top a few times though!
Also did a trial run at the weekend of packing everything, and I might need to be wearing a few layers on the plane if everything doesn't fit in my bag!

Hi All, I'm a little surprised by the size of the kitbag, its enormous!! I was expecting a small holdall that I would be trying to fit in a few things, but seemingly not. Is everyone using it for their main luggage or taking it as well as their large rucksack?
Also towels - do we need to take one? I'm assuming I'll need one for the trek?
Clothes for eating out - ouch hadn't thought of that, more items to fit into my bag..... maybe I will need to pack both rucksack and kitbag!! Sarah

Anonymous
Mon, 10/18/2010 - 10:12

Hi Sarah
My reaction was "this bag is small"! But I got my Explore bag out and it's the same size - think black makes it look smaller. This is all I will take plus my handbaggage - daysac to carry on trek. I've been on a few treks and you need to take towel (small travel ones are good), biodegradeable soap, toothpaste and any other "cosmetics" you can't live without. Only recently did I discover that you can sling the kit bag on your back and carry like a rucksack- or drag by end handle in airport - so much easier than holding in one hand. Peru is supposed to be "casual" so as Becki says I'm taking some "normal" clothes for meals out as opposed to trekking clothes. In my past experience some people dress up a bit more for the last night dinner out - but I don't like carting a set of clothes around for 2 weeks just for the final night!

hi all;
4 days and counting.
Sarah im takin a large rucksack as my main luggage im packing the kit bag inside it and just using it for the jungle and trek parts, im also taking my daypack as carry on luggage. Im using some small sweat towels i got from the gym im not taking any big ones(to heavy). I'v decided to take 1 nice shirt and 1 nice t shirt so you may be seeing them alot guys lol. Wayne

You can buy super towels from TKMAX or Go Outdoors they are special towels which dry quickly ... quick travel dry towels about £10 for large ones

They dry in no time flat ... best thing and they are not heavy ... made from special fabric

Anonymous
Mon, 10/18/2010 - 20:23

Sarah you need to take your own toilet paper too... Huggies sell a roll which is flat in that it does not have the card in the centre..

This is for the Inca trail mainly ... but who knows for the rest of the trip

Hi, Good luck for exam. Does anyone know if we can check in online for the BA and the LAN Airline flight?

Anonymous
Wed, 10/20/2010 - 13:27

Hi Chris

I asked if anyone knew a week or so ago and noone got back on the subject. Exodus say "you may be able to" but probably you are worried the same as me that your bags will only get as far as Madrid! I looked on BA website and it suggested it might work as BA and LAN are part of Oneworld. However you can only do within 24 hours of flight departure - so those on the just past midnight flight could try and then let the rest of us know! ;-)

Hi all,
You can book/check in online for BA flights and probably for the onward bound flight 24 hours in advance. You just need your booking refererence number on your final joining instructions. We're on different flights to you all but hoping to do this tomorrow (wow, really nearly there). The good seats go in seconds though just to warn you so so you need to be checking in bang on 24 hours beforehand if you don't want to be stuck in front of the toilet for the duration (try seatguru.com for details of your plane and the seating options). Ye I just logged into LAN and BA and you can check in online. Also the entire flight information is on the one ticket so looks like baggage can be checked in for all the way through. Anyway, thats the boring stuff out of the way.

I am on the 6.20 flight from Heathrow and was going to get there for around 3:30am. Chris

Is anyone on the 7.25am flight or are you all on earlier ones! I hope you'll hold the plane in Madrid for me if I run short of time. My coach gets in to Heathrow at 2.55am so I might see you before you leave otherwise it might be Lima. Can't wait but soooo much work to do. No word from Sheena today - perhaps a headache or two?

Hi Heather - we're on the 7:25am flight as well (Sheena, Dawn, Julie and myself), so we'll see you then! Exodus tags on hand luggage for easy spotting. :) We'll prob get there about 5-5:30 ish

PS. Spoke to Sheena yesterday and said the exams went well. Now for the holiday! :)
