Hi Steve

I'm thinking of doing Base Camp Everest and the Gokyo lakes trek, no food is included in that trek - could you give an idea of the additional costs (food/drink and tipping as that can be pricey sometimes) you had to pay?  Am trying to encourage some friends to come too and it would be really great to let them know the rough total amount the trip will cost, is £2300ish at the moment!

Hiya Phil,

You have chosen the best for your trek, I had a great time on my trek, regards the cost, breakfast was included in the trek, and I spent roughly £15.00 per day on meals water charging ect. You could spend up to £30.00 per day if you do a lot of laundry have showers ect but I only did washing 1nce and had 2 showers on my trip. water is quite expensive further up you go but I used hot water a lot  and that was just as good, I never used streralisation tablets and didn't suffer the trots (lucky me). So if you work on £20.00 per day that should do you ok. Any more info you want just let me know.

Thanks for that, gives me quite a bit of background to help pitch it to my friends!  If I have any other questions I'll let you know.  Off to Kili tomorrow so currently thinking about that ;-)

Hi Phil and Steve

Just stumbled across your feed and wonder if you both would be so kind to give me any tips / advice on your trips?  I am due to hike Kilimanjaro on 8th December this year via Lemosho route and then Everest Base camp next year on 23rd April .

I have now managed to get my doctor to prescribe me diamox for the altitude and wonder if you both took it , in what quantities and how frequently ?

I have also invested in a Womens Cho Oyo down jacket ( hope is a good investment as it says it is an expedition grade jacket , with a mesh internal pocket for a water bottle ) . Hope it does what it says on the tin as have read that water will freeze on summit night .

Am thinking of taking my Vango sleeping bag as a gift for the porters and investing in a Rab Andes 800 , again been told this is very warm .

Apart from that , would just like any further advice for someone that has a fear of heights ( again hear the Barranco wall is an "experience" and also with EBC there can be a few hair raising sheer drops on the trail .

Many many thanks in advance
