Be challenged and inspired amid jawdropping scenery. Even if you're not an athlete........

This was a trip that surpassed my expectations. I am not terribly athletic and i was concerned about the cycling but in the end I managed well and the bus was there to help at the hardest bits….It combined stunning scenery, fascinating history, a friendly group that gelled together under the care of exemplary guides.

Most Inspirational Moment

If I had to pick one it was cycling along the roads across from the majestic Nemercka mountains. This alpine scenery was truly breathtaking and the more enjoyable for the absence of tourists and crowds on the roads. The route across to the Ionian sea, through citrus groves, little towns and finally glimpsing the ocean in the distance was wonderful. I loved our private visits to Butrint and GiroKastra and the warm welcome from everyone wherever we went.

Armand was beyond exemplary. Always considerate about our needs and as courteous at the end of the day as at the beginning, nothing was too much trouble and it was evident that it came from his heart. He is a leader who loves and is proud to share his country with visitors and ensure everyone gets the most from their visit.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a comfy gel seat. Keep your day accessories to a minimum. Using packing cubes to help pack and repack every day. Above all don't be put off because you don't fit society's image of an athlete or cyclist. Yes you need to be able to ride a bicycle, you don't need to be Bradley Wiggins. I'm candidly somewhat overweight and I did this trip and I loved every second. You will get all the help and support you need.

Spice Trails of Kerala

A good introduction to trekking. Good that it was followed with a range other ativities in the second week, which made it feel longer that a 14 day holiday. Call me fussy but a hotel with a pool would have been good at some point – it was hot!

Most Inspirational Moment

All of the trek. Definitely off the tourist route and very beautiful

Thoughts on Group Leader

Harish was a very good leader. We had a number of discussions on the cultural context of India, which opened up a number of insites. We also had a very helpful 'trainee' leader, (BIbi?) on the trek

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes are a very accurate summary

Tour De Sri Lanka

My trip was second to none. Despite being the only Aussie, I felt right at home with the group.
The natural beauty of Sri Lanka and it’s people was amazing. Cheers and children along town roads and in villages, spurred me on.
The weather, mountains, beaches, lakes, rice paddies, tea plantations, animals, water falls and country spirit surrounded us always. Not to mention best daal (and other) curries!
The guide was superb, ensuring that all group tastes and trip features were met, and the group, my room mate and driver, bike mechanics and assistants were the best.
I’ll treasure the holiday, the memories and the people. We were also quite lucky to be in Sri Lanka during the Lunar or Buddhist New Year and got to experience those celebrations.
It wasn’t just bike riding. The beach, visiting a gem museum, tea factory, spice gardens (with a complimentary massage!) and a jeep safari at Yala National Park, were among the few extras we did, along with shopping at Kandy or Galle, and Elephant riding, and going to an elephant orphanage. Temples, ruins and hikes and much more, jam packed into 14 days.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Elephants and Mountains.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The cream of the crop.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Consider Tips. Mosquito repellents. You may wait a few days for Laundry facilities Train before you go if and when you can! Travel light so you can buy a lot more.

What's not to like?

This is a great trip. There is plenty of variety to delight both newcomers to walking and the more experienced. Excellent mountain ranges with stunning views, deep lush valleys, carpets of wild flowers and plenty of animal life. Throw in delightful villages with a long history and of course the excellent cuisine and coffee. There is plenty on offer, just go and enjoy it!

Most Inspirational Moment

Its difficult to pick out a single moment, but I lean towards standing still as a stone watching the wild mountain sheep herds. But coming across our first fire salamanders was close.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara is an absolute delight. She will go the extra mile to give you the best possible trip in any weather. She has a great enthusiasm which is infectious.

Advice for Potential Travellers

When you ask the locals for a Doppio Espresso, they will query you...it's against local customs to drink string coffee after lunch...Just say 'Forte' in response.

Cycling Back Roads in Sri Lanka

I have just completed a cycling trip in Sri Lanka – it was fantastic!! Lots of variety and very informative. If you enjoy cycling, friendly hospitality, great food and a brilliant leader then I would highly recommend this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

All of it!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent! Suresh was really attentive and very informative. We couldn't have had a better guide!

Advice for Potential Travellers

We hired the bikes on arrival and they were great - definitely saved a lot of hassel at the airport. Also don't need to take much luggage.

Discover Costa rica

A wonderful trip. Stayed in some beautiful locations with excellent accommodation

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing two pairs of the elusive resplendent quetzal on the last day

Thoughts on Group Leader

Johnny was a superb guide. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. He looked after the group attentively and the trip wouldn't have been the same without him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you love nature this is a must do trip

Cycling in Vietnam

A superb holiday which was excellently organised allowing time to get an inside look into the wonderful country of Vietnam whilst enjoying the wonderful fresh air and enduring exercise.

Most Inspirational Moment

The young children being so excited to see us when cycling through the villages - having big smiles, high 5's, big hugs and being welcomed

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - the best - very knowledgeable - very professional - nothing too much trouble - always happy to help - always smiling

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do this holiday - it is the best - take a sleeping bag liner on the train

Discover Sri Lanka

Had 2 brilliant weeks discovering Sri Lanka in our 2nd Exodus holiday. A brilliant mix of sight seeing, fun, shopping and relaxing. Exodus organisation is superb. Guide was so helpful and accommodating – nothing was too much trouble.

Most Inspirational Moment

There are too many excellent moments to name just one, but enjoyed the cycling day, learning about the coconuts and the lunch in the forest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader was super. Very friendly and accommodating. Excellent knowledge about the island, the history and the places we visited. Nothing was too much trouble. Sometimes the tricky Sri Lankan names/words/pronunciation were difficult to understand.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a pair of binoculars - great for the National Parks and whale watching. Ladies might like to carry a foldable fan - I found this of great benefit as the humidity can be very high. Next time I would carry a damp flannel too so I could dry my head, face and neck in the heat. Bring a double pack of playing cards for some fun evenings. I didn't take a hairdryer as all hotels either have one in the room or they loan you one.

Everest Base Camp - Trip of a lifetime!

Words cannot describe how amazing this trip is…if you have even a tiny inkling to go, do not hesitate. Every single day, without exception was amazing; the mountains are floor to ceiling, vast and beautiful. It is not your average walk in the park, to get views like this you have to work hard for it!

Most Inspirational Moment

Every single day was inspirational, but 2 stand out. The obvious one was reaching Everest Base Camp but also finishing the whole walk brought a lump to the throat! We had the privilege of meeting Jamling Norgay (son of Tenzing) on the way, as well as other climbers heading for the summit - truly amazing people! We had some unseasonable snow too and our guide, Gele was absolutely wonderful - at one point he was using his bare hands to dig through snow and dirt to get to fresh soil and rocks that he could throw onto the icy pathway to help us to avoid slipping.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I cannot thank Gele enough. Gele and the team (Pema, Phenju, Gelgeen and the 'Yak boy' of course) were looking after us every step of the way. Gele had some very clear advice that we all stuck to and we were all successful in getting to EBC. He was always keen for feedback and made it very easy for us to raise any issues with him (not that there were any, more that most people at some point had to seek advice about something!). Our group was fantastic, we all arrived as strangers and within a few days it was all about us as a team and all of us working together - everyone was so supportive of each other and this was partly due to Gele's facilitation. He taught us cards games, made us laugh, had some great anecdotes (and some really rubbish jokes!) and was generally the heart and soul of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes - do it! Be aware that it is not easy...every day is challenging. I have also done Kili and that was tough, but only really for the summit night and following day. This trek in my opinion is more challenging as every day there are some very steep ups and downs (sometimes they feel relentless), but that goes hand in hand with there being a 'wow' moment around almost every corner - it is well worth it. If you are a bit nervous about heights - don't worry too much. I was concerned about the bridges and sheer cliff sides. The bridges were remarkably sturdy and can hold a lot of Yaks! As for the cliffs, there were one to two sections that I found slightly uncomfortably narrow...but rest assured that there is always someone there watching your back (or holding you up!). A few other pointers: - The acclimatisation days are essential for making your ascent more comfortable and they are well worth doing. - Take a metal 'Sigg' style bottle and use it as a hot water bottle. - Buy a thicker down jacket in Namche if you need to. - Walking sticks make it a million times easier on the knees. - If you want to buy a Yak bell, do it in Namche as they are about the only thing that are not easy to find in Kathmandu! - Khumbu Cough is real and it is a bit annoying (I still have it!), but it doesn't have to stop you. - Don't expect to sleep much! The days are incredible, but the nights can drag on and feel like a lifetime! Finally, enjoy every minute of it, take the time to take it in, take photos, breathe the air...!

Trails of Vietnam - April

A full-on enjoyable trip with an interesting mix of sightseeing and activity – would highly recommend.

The itinerary enables you to learn a lot about this rapidly developing country – it’s history and current development, with interesting contrasts between city life and rural life. There is almost no free time on this trip, but that’s the only way to fit so much into two weeks! The Vietnamese people are friendly and welcoming and the trip is interesting and enjoyable from start to finish.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to highlight just one: Cycling through rural villages (approx. 50% of the cycling). Exchanging hundreds of 'hellos' with local children and people as we cycled through their lives. Visiting local markets. Cycling through the Friday night rush hour with the locals in Hue - and surviving! (It was a challenging experience, but our guide looked after us well). Sharing a little of the fun with local people as they prepared to celebrate their New Year. The water buffalo that expressed such joy and excitement when it was let off its rope to play in the river (running back and forth and rolling in the river like a puppy! I didn't know water buffalos did that!) The homestays. Experiencing the process of getting clothes, shoes and prescription glasses tailor made in Hoi An.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Anh was a brilliant leader - well organised, great sense of humour, knowledgeable, part of the group, excellent English and such a pleasure to spend time with. Anh handled the boisterous nature of our group with ease and everything was organised to perfection without any fuss.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I was unsure of the following before I went, so hope these pointers help: You will need: Lightweight walking boots or shoes (heavy boots unnecessary) Silk sleeping bag liner (not a sleeping bag) Cycling helmet (must be worn, but are provided by the bike hire company if you prefer not to take your own) Padded seat cover or padded cycling shorts (recommended, not essential, I'm not a cyclist and suffered even with my padded seat cover!, but most people seemed to experience at least some saddle soreness!) Walking sandals were fine for cycling (I didn't need trainers) You won't need: Additional sleeping mat (those provided at the homestay are fine) Mosquito net (all provided where needed) Currency - VND is the preferred currency, but most places also take US dollars. Credit cards can be used in towns and cities. It's quick and easy to get laundry done whenever you stay in a hotel for 2 nights - this cuts the amount of clothes needed (and eliminates the whiffy socks after the hike!) Would recommend a massage at the hotel in Hoi An if you get chance - excellent for a very reasonable price.
