walking in Madeira

Did not know what to expect at all as this was my very first walking group adventure. What a fantastic group, exceedingly funny and informative guide, the island is amazing and the weather was great (t-shirt weather every day).
Will definitely do a walking tour agoin – probably easier as I thought the classification as ‘moderate’ was a great understatement (I thought I was going to die a few times).

Most Inspirational Moment

top of the highest mountain on Madeira - group photo!

Thoughts on Group Leader

absolutely excellent - very informative, funny and mostly encouraging.

Advice for Potential Travellers

get blisterplaster and get fit, fit, fit!!!!!!!!

Trails of Vietnam with Anh

A great time and a very varied trip with many different activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

The people. Their happiness and their welcoming attitude.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Anh was very well organised, funny and always had a positive attitude. His English was also very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Follow the guidelines on The Exodus website an you'll be fine. I didn't use the mosquito net as they were provided in the homestay.

Walking on the Amalfi Coast

A really good walking holiday with excellent views of the coastline. A full schedule meant we saw as much as we could and had great trips to Pompeii, Vesuvius and Capri

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved going up Vesuvius and inside the crater to see and learn all about the history of the volcano. It was well worth getting a guide to take you inside the crater.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Clair was brilliant and set a good pace on the walks and had a good local knowledge and the fact that she could speak Italian was a bonus. She also went the extra mile to help us gain a group discount on the ferry to Capri even though she was not organising the trip on our free day .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for steps, up and down, and lots of them. If you use walking poles, they would be useful especially on the steps down

Treasures of Jordan

A thoroughly memorable trip. Lovely country and lovely people. We saw so much in a relatively short space of time with great contrasts between city, desert, coast and the Dead Sea.

Most Inspirational Moment

Having tea with our driver's mum in her home to see what Jordanian life is about. And being mugged by an excited group of teenage girls at Ajloun to have our photos taken with them (which I get were on Facebook in nanoseconds!). Otherwise, ticking the 50 year old bucket list by seeing Petra!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was highly knowledgeable, charming, great sense of humour - and sorted the broken loo in our hotel bedroom on the first night (early hours in the morning) - even though it wasn't his job, we could have gone to Reception. He took us to some great restaurants and generally worked hard to make it a memorable holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take something warm to put on i.e. jeans as well as cotton trousers, pair of leggings (ladies only?!), gloves and a thicker jacket than a fleece. It was cold at night and sometimes in the day.

South African Walking Safari

This was an amazing holiday, we packed so much in and saw so much it will be difficult to choose a highlight. The guides were very good and made sure we were happy, safe, well fed and enjoyed every minute.

Most Inspirational Moment

We actually saw the big five as well as seeing a black Rhino which was fantastic and totally unexpected. We were up close and personal to all the animals and we saw some amazing and rare birdlife which was a bonus.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was very passionate and knowledgable about his country and what it contained, from the smallest of grasses to the biggest of animals. He was able to answer any questions we had and he made sure we packed as much in to the time we had.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for some long drives in the bus, it is very comfortable and well worth the time spent as we covered a lot of ground and saw a lot of the country. Early mornings are also part of the trip this is to ensure you see and do as much as possible while you are there.

Chianti April 2015

It was my first trip with Exodus and it more than lived up to expectations. The itinerary was varied; a great mixture of walking, culture and wine-tasting – a wonderful way to visit this fascinating area of Italy. The accommodation was lovely, food delicious and our tour leader was fantastic – she was very knowledgeable about the local area and always went the extra mile for the group. It was a very well organised and interesting trip, I would definitely recommend it.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was wonderful to walk through the Italian vine yards and learn about the local history - we were very lucky with the weather as well which made for gorgeous views across the countryside.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was fantastic - she shared a lot of knowledge about the local area and places we visited, she was organised, very sociable and always worked hard to accommodate everyone.

Tropical Island Wanderer

We had an amazing time on this trip; all of the members of our family- 2 adults and 3 children aged 16, 14 and 12 enjoyed it hugely. It was a great mix of culture, wildlife and beaches! Sri Lanka is a gorgeous island, the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the food was fantastic- we especially enjoyed the food made by local families, which we lucky enough to try several times

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the rock fortress at Sigiriya was a definite highlight, as was coming pretty much face to face with countless elephants on the game drive near Polonnaruwa. The kindness of the people we met was definitely inspirational.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely brilliant -hugely enthusiastic, friendly, cheerful and informative. Neelaka made everyone feel immediately at ease, and took care of all of the little details for us. We couldn't have asked for a better group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you can afford the trip, don't hesitate to go!! It is definitely worth taking up the guide's offer to set up a "kitty" to cover tips for all of the meals and hotel staff, and for buying bottles of water every day - this makes life a lot easier. Although it is tempting to just sit by the pool (or the beach towards the end of the trip) when there is any free time, we would recommend fitting in as many of the optional activities that you can. It is also easy to organise your own activities - at Ahangama, we organised a group trip by tuk tuk down the coast to Weligama, and had a superb afternoon of surfing (or trying to surf!).

Wonderful country and people

Cycling in Cuba sounds like a great trip but it was a bit of a leap in the dark in many ways for me and my wife. However the trip was a great success on every level! The bikes were really good, much better than the ones we trained on at home. Las, the tour guide was also ideal, informative, funny and resourceful – and he needed to be sometimes as in Cuba things don’t always run to plan but he managed to make this part of the fun. Gear, (never really sure about his name), was great as our super-fit support cyclist who kept an eye on us when we were cycling and was always there for anyone struggling for any reason. Edwardo the driver was always where he needed to be and the converted coach carrying the bikes and us to our next start point was very comfortable. The great thing was never having to worry as the travel, support, hotels and meals were all well organised so all we had to do was enjoy the scenery and the wonderful Cuban people. They ultimately made the trip so good as they are polite, friendly, entertaining and most of all fun! Having a good time seems to be ingrained in the culture so a few Salsa lessons before the holiday are recommended.

Most Inspirational Moment

A group of us being given a Salsa lesson in the HQ courtyard! It was really, really fun not least because the Cuban staff found our attempts hilarious enough to film, ( although I hope I'm not on YouTube) and you could see why when 2 staff gave us a demonstration of how it is really done.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. He was good fun without being ingratiating and obviously very knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife. when things didn't go quite according to plan he simply improvised, re-organised and calmly resolved any issues. We learnt a lot about the revolution and it's effect on the Cuban way of life and I finished the holiday feeling a great deal of respect for the Cuban people.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Learn to Salsa and get some cycling practice. The cycling isn't too difficult but over 25 miles a day can be a challenge if you're inexperienced.

Petra and Wadi Rum by Bike

Completing Petra and Wadi Rum by bike confirmed to me that age is no barrier to adventure. The route inspired awe for Jordans’ natural beauty and built wonders; our guides and the local people made the trip memorable by freely sharing their knowledge and hospitality.
At any age you can appreciate the smooth organaisation experienced from booking the holiday throughout the trip right to the final transfer to the airport. No question was too difficult; nothing was too much trouble.
I was so impressed that I am already considering my next trip with Exodus.
Regards Stuart Browett.
Thanks again for a fantastic holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

I really enjoyed the walk through Petra and climbing up to the Monastery but for me the most inspirational moments were cycling to Wadi Rum and the 4x4 vehicle drive through Wadi Rum. The red and yellow colours of the sand and the rugged mountains accentuated by the azure blue sky

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a trip: just do it.

Land of the Tiger

I think that we were very lucky to have 12 Tiger sightings, this exceeded our expectations, other groups may not be as fortunate. India has an abundance of other wildlife and so many birds, the 3 game parks we visited were all totally different landscapes, the countryside was surprisingly green. The entire tour was brilliant, the group got along very well together and added to the sucess of the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The close encounters with Tigers, and the Taj Mahal at sunset

Thoughts on Group Leader

Krishna was an exceptional group leader from start to finish, he went beyond the call of duty to obtain 2 extra game drives for the group, and he quickly sorted any minor problems that the group had on the journey. He was very knowledgeable and his passionate enthusiasm was infectious. We would like to thank Krishna for making our magnificent adventure even more special. He is a great asset to the Exodus team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need to be patient when looking for Tigers, you can spend 30 minutes or more listening to warning calls and just hoping that elusive Tiger will appear.
