Top 5 Africa Tour Highlights

1. Trekking Kilimanjaro
Trekking Kilimanjaro is a challenging yet rewarding adventure that takes you to the roof of Africa. As Africa’s tallest peak, standing at 19,341 feet above northeast Tanzania, Kilimanjaro offers breathtaking views of diverse ecosystems, from lush rainforests to barren alpine deserts. The journey to the summit involves navigating through five distinct climate zones, each with its own unique flora and fauna. With experienced guides leading the way, trekkers experience a sense of accomplishment and awe as they reach the iconic Uhuru Peak, standing atop the continent and witnessing the sunrise over the vast expanse of the African plains below.

2. Victoria Falls
One of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Victoria Falls plunges over 300 feet into the Zambezi Gorge, creating a mesmerizing display of mist and thundering water. Known locally as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” or “The Smoke That Thunders,” the falls captivate visitors with their sheer power and beauty. Whether you view the falls from Zimbabwe or Zambia, witnessing Victoria Falls is an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression.

3. The Valley of the Kings
The Valley of the Kings, located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor, Egypt, is an ancient burial ground for pharaohs and nobles of the New Kingdom period. Carved into the desert rock, the valley is home to over 60 elaborately decorated tombs, including that of the famous King Tutankhamun. These tombs hold priceless treasures and offer a glimpse into the beliefs and rituals of ancient Egyptian civilization.

4. The Great Migration
The Great Migration is one of nature’s most spectacular events, showcasing the annual journey of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores across the plains of East Africa. Starting in the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania, the herds embark on a perilous trek northward in search of greener pastures and water sources, often crossing crocodile-infested rivers such as the Mara River in Kenya. As the seasons change and rains come and go, the animals navigate vast distances, facing predators and natural obstacles along the way. Witnessing this mass movement of wildlife on Africa tours in the Masai Mara and the Serengeti between the months of July and October.

5. The Sahara Desert
The Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world, spanning over 5 million square miles across North Africa. Its vast expanse of sand dunes, rocky plateaus, and barren plains create a landscape of unparalleled beauty and harshness. Despite its arid conditions, the Sahara is home to a variety of life, including desert-adapted plants, insects, and nomadic tribes who have thrived in this environment for centuries. Visitors to the Sahara can experience the tranquility of its endless horizons, witness breathtaking sunsets over the dunes, and immerse themselves in the timeless traditions of its inhabitants.

I’ve traveled far and wide, Morocco being my 58th country. But this trip wasn’t just travel – it was transformation, standing apart as one of the most enriching, moving, and unforgettable adventures of my life.
From the sweeping dunes of the Sahara to the winding alleys of the ancient Medina and the energy of Marrakesh, the poetic beauty of the Atlas Mountains, and the Kasbahs, villages, markets, homes — each day was filled with wonder, beauty, and genuine connection—with the land, its people, and with myself.
As someone who prefers traveling spontaneously and on my own, rather than in coordinated groups, two friends and I decided to try it this time, and joined strangers on this organized trip.
A huge part of what elevated this journey well beyond expectations was our extraordinary guide, Mohamed. His deep knowledge, thoughtful storytelling, and sincere care brought the history, culture, nature, and spirit of Morocco to life in unforgettable ways. He didn’t just show us Morocco—he shared it with us. With his passion, and genuine kindness, he didn’t just lead us—he welcomed us into his culture with warmth and generosity. From shared laughters to heartfelt stories, he made Morocco come alive in ways no brochure or solo travel ever could. The experience was poetry for all senses.
Equally important was our driver, Abdoul, whose calm, confident presence made every journey feel completely safe, no matter how winding the road or how chaos-like the road. His skill behind the wheel allowed us to trust, relax, and truly take in the shifting landscapes.
The itinerary struck a perfect balance between adventure and rest, busy and quiet, and the thoughtfully selected accommodations—including the magical desert camp and the rustic charm gite —created an atmosphere of authenticity and comfort. And the food! Every meal was a sensory delight, and I found myself not just tasting Moroccan food and tea but truly savoring it as a cultural expression. Oh, and I will never forget surrendering to the traditional —non-touristy — hammam with the local ladies in Thigza at 6400ft altitude. I felt cleansed not just on my skin, but deep scrubbed from years of inner hurts.
And the most beautiful part of this trip? The unexpected connections—with locals and with moments of quiet awe. This was more than a vacation. It was a passage into wonder. I have returned transformed and with a yearning to return.
I’m deeply grateful to Mohamed and Abdoul, and to all the people along the way, who welcomed us, shared their homes, shared their knowledge, and the love of their country, for taking us far beyond the surface.
If you’re looking not just to see Morocco, but to feel it, live it, and carry it home in your soul, I can’t recommend this journey with Exodus highly enough.

When is the best time to visit Africa?

The best time to visit Africa depends on the specific region and activities you’re interested in. Generally, the dry season, which varies by region, is often considered the best time for wildlife viewing and outdoor activities.
