Thoughts on Group Leader
Very good. Highly knowledgable about Almafi and made sure everything ran very smoothly in a packed itinery.

An excellent trip. Varied itinery with walks along beautiful coastline and trips to interesting historical sites. Trip leader was very knowledgable and the guides in Pompei, Herculaneum and Vesuvius were also excellant.
Great food in the hotel and enjoyed the cookery demonstrations!

a really well laid out week of hiking. great day hikes that take you through beautiful countryside. There are a TON of stairs in nearly every day’s hike, so be prepared for that. And March weather was pretty unstable, so I’d recommend going later in the year to have more wildflowers and higher chance of sunshine. The hotel that we stayed out was very homey and the food spectacular!
the hike around the high point of Mt. Vesuvius was absolutely incredible - made me feel like I was on the top of the world.
Christine was an amazing guide who provided great information along the routes and made the group really feel like a family in a few short days. She knows everyone along the way which was really fun - we felt so welcomed by everyone! She made sure that everyone was having fun, knew what the plan was, and that we were well fed. couldn't ask for more!
the stairs were a bit of a surprise. while the trip notes said not to go if you had knee issues, only one of the days really talked to how many stairs there were....when in reality every day had quite a few stairs. hiking poles were really helpful to make it up and down all of those!
A great weeks activity I feel much fitter. The activity was occasionally tailored to the needs of our group, done sympathetically with no fuss, the great number of steps involved on some walks provoked some knee problems.
The hotel was warm, comfy and served great food of excellent variety and quality, I don’t think I’ve ever been so well fed or served.
Our guide Christina knew her job well, was friendly and attentive without being over fussy. Her suggestion to visit a paper making demonstration was a real bonus to the trip and put the walk and scenery for that day into context.
Feeling the heat from the fumerols in the crater on Vesuvius. The views from the top of Vesuvius Walking in the sunshine up the valley of the paper mills in Amalfi
Very good, excellent local knowledge, warm friendly manner with out fuss. Constantly keeping an eye on the needs of the whole group.
When the trip notes say STEPS, they mean steps in abundance. If your knees are a bit 'iffy' take poles. According to Christina 'every thing is do able' .Just take it at your own pace. This is allowed.
This was a fantastic week spent with delightful companions. The scenery was stunning, the walks were varied and enjoyable. The pace was leisurely, and although as a Sunday walker I found some of the ascents a little strenuous, it was all well worth the effort, and Paul our leader was on hand with lots of help and encouragement. Optional activities such as Vesuvius and Herculaneum were also well organised and enjoyable.
I particularly enjoyed the Walk of the Gods, and the descent to Amalfi was memorable, probably for the 2000 steps!
Our leader Paul was very sociable and enthusiastic. He talked us through all of the walks beforehand, and had excellent local knowledge. He judged the pace of the walks very well, so no one was left behind, and chose some beautiful picnic spots.
Be prepared to exert yourself - the rewards are worth it, and as several of my fellow travellers have said, expect lots and lots of steps! Good boots and hiking poles are a great help.
This was a great trip. The itinerary was well-balanced with plenty of walks and opportunities for sight-seeing. The accommodation was very good and the food outstanding. Our guide Paul was well organised and integrated well with the group which was made up of a mix of ages, solos, couples and relatives.
Climbing to the peak of Vesuvius and venturing inside the crater. Also, getting a pizza master-class from the chef in residence at the hotel (and coming away with a certificate!).
As above, Paul was organised, friendly and efficient at getting everyone together on time. He explained each day's itinerary clearly in advance and joined in with the group throughout the week.
Arrive with an empty stomach! Also, be prepared for steps (and lots of them).
I had an excellent week with walks which were not too long but included a great variety of scenery and a significant amount of effort both going up and going down all those steps! Each day was different, each day had highlights, hard to pick the best day, the worst day was when I had to fly home.
Hard to say as there were many, probably standing on the top of Vesuvius
The leader was first rate, even adding a short walk on the last day
Although the walks were not to long there were some steep up and downhill sections and some of the paths were rough in places. You do need decent walking boots if you go on this trip even if you don't need them on every day. This would not suit complete beginners but even though not many on my trip were avid hill walkers they still managed to complete all the walks and enjoy them. Expect stiff limbs next day after the long downhill sections
scenery excellent, but walking was much harder than I expected–and I have done about 60 Munros. V steep ascents + descents. Hotel clean, staff v friendly and helpful but food rather disappointing. However, the paninis we had at lunchtime were excellent.
The ascent of Vesuvius.
Excellent. Knowledgeable about the area and its history.
Do lots of training on hills before you go.
A good balance of sight-seeing, walking and enjoying local ambiance in a beautiful part of Italy. Not as rushed as some Exodus holidays but still full of interest. Time to enjoy cappuccino, gelati and wine. Beautiful walks along the Amalfi coast Great local hotel with excellent food and plenty of vegetarian choice.
Going up Mount Vesuvius. Sentiero del Dei. Villages of Amalfi Coast.
Paul was a star. Very attentive. Excellent local knowledge.
Really enjoyed going in November. Weather still warm and mostly sunny with none of the crowds normally associated with this part of Italy.
The 4 walks were all excellent and brilliantly led by our leader. The sight seeing days were also excellent, with opportunities to visit Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum. The hotel was fine – nothing luxurious, but everything worked and the staff were very friendly. Food was good, including the vegetarian options.
Walking around the edge of Vesuvius - really scary!
Excellent. Good fun and very knowledgeable about the area.
Check the weather before your trip. I was caught out by the chilly evenings. Avoid the table wine in the hotel!
My third Exodus trip, all good but this one was the best. The combination of varied walking through spectacular surroundings, visits to interesting sites, an good, friendly hotel with good food, an excellent group leader and a group that all got on well together made it a memorable week. Also the weather was mainly warm and sunny, a real bonus coming from the UK in November.
Traversing the summit and rim of Vesuvius, an optional extra, was thought provoking when you realise that at some future date it may look very different, particularly combined with visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum which show what could happen again.
Our group leader, Emily, was everything one might ask for in that role, but also became an important member of the group.
