Zambia is a large country, filled with diverse wildlife and dramatic scenery, and it’s one of the finest providers of safari holidays in the world. Zambia tours are focused around South Luangwa, the mighty Victoria Falls and the Lower Zambezi.

South Luangwa National Park is a classic African safari wilderness reserve with outstanding birdlife and an enviable leopard record. There’s canoeing along the game-rich waterways of the Lower Zambezi, which allows you to enjoy the wilderness at its most raw; large pods of hippo vie with shy crocs along the banks and herds of elephant come to the water to drink and browse the vegetation. Carmine bee-eaters nest in sandy patches of riverbank and Goliath heron fish in the shallows. There are excellent chances of predator sightings, as well as over 500 species of bird. And you need at least two days to explore Victoria Falls, where you can walk in the national park, or try some of the many activities like rafting and bungee jumping.

In focus: Explore the Natural Wonder of Victoria Falls

Ever since explorer David Livingstone charted a path to Victoria Falls in 1855, they have captivated travellers’ minds. Seeing the Zambezi River fall at a rate of 3 million litres per second and vanish into a mist of dancing rainbows was said to be “a scene so lovely, it must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.”

Discover the world’s largest waterfall (by width and height) for yourself with a walk through Mosai Tunya National Park. Going eye to eye with a 5,604 x 354ft. fall is awe-inspiring and beckons further exploration. Take a boat to Livingstone Island– the isle and pop-up teahouse perched at the precipice of the falls– for cocktails, crumpets, and jaw-dropping views. If you’re here when water levels are lower (August-January) and feeling brave, take a dip in the Devil’s Pool, a natural swimming hole just feet from edge!

In focus: Canoe the Lower Zambezi National Park

It’s been said that where there is a river, there is life. Located along the Zambezi River’s 1,599-mile journey to the sea, Lower Zambezi National Park makes up one if its most fruitful corridors. The river is shaded with lush ebony and fig trees. Zebra, lions, waterbuck, impala, hyena, leopards are drawn to the water’s edge for a drink. While crocodiles, hippos, and countless fish are happy to call the Zambezi home.

Paddle the river in a simple canoe to truly appreciate the river’s power, serenity and vibrant habita’s Mana Pools Reserve lines the opposite shore so the area is doubly protected for an unfettered wildlife experience.

There is so much packed into this itinerary, The different landscapes and wildlife you will see is amazing. This was my 1st solo holiday, I particularly picked it because I wanted to be with a mixed group of couples and solos alike and it worked well for me. There is a lot of travelling involved in this trip but I believe it was worth it to see the landscape change so very much. Motopo national park was so beautiful and we literally crept up on 3 rhinos. The peacefulness of the delta and the milky way was magnificent 👌 (The bushy bushy was something to be desired but I survived)

This trip trys to pack in too much to the time available and therefore fails to deliver the normally high quality experiences that other Exodus trips have done. The only wild dog sitings to be expected (according to the guide upon arrival) are at the rescue centre, much appreciated but not actually on the official itinerary. Chobe is great for wildlife and getting up close to rhinos in Mtobo on foot was a great experience. The wildlife walks in the Okavango Delta likewise were a great way to experience seeing animals rather than from a jeep. Otherwise the Delta element was a bit dissapointing, too much wasted time. The long, hot journeys in a mini bus (AC seemed poor) that was really too small for the group spoilt some of the trip. The Makgadikgadi Salt Pans was not handled well, a waste of time that could have been utilised for a longer time at say Hwange. Depite being told of the large lion population the apparent lack of radio communication between jeeps meant we saw none. Another day would have been of benefit. Overall some great wildlife views and Victoria Falls, but the structure of the trip fails.
