A Journey That Changed My Life

This trip was nothing short of transformative. I have not travelled much in my life, at least not trips like this one, but nothing could have prepared me for how deeply this experience would impact me. From the first morning waking up in Bomerano, sometimes literally inside the clouds, I felt a new kind of aliveness I had never felt before. Every direction I looked was breathtaking, and every day left me feeling inspired, connected and genuinely grateful. What started as a simple hiking holiday quickly became something life changing, and our group bonded in a way that lifted my spirit more than I ever expected. It truly felt like stepping into a dream I never wanted to end. Every hike, every day, offered another reason to fall in love with life again.

Grazie assai, Agerola. Dentro le tue nuvole ho ritrovato il respiro, e nei tuoi sentieri ho imparato a vivere il momento. Non sognarlo soltanto: vivilo.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk that changed me was Monte Tre Calli. Although everyone talks about the Path of the Gods (and wow yes, it is absolutely beautiful, and Vesuvius the day before was unforgettable) Monte Tre Calli was something on an entirely different level. The woodsy trails, the open ridges, the view at the top, the silence, the wind, the sense of being held by nature for six straight hours. That mountain felt beyond words. It was transformative. It felt like being connected to everything around me and to something inside myself that I had not met before. I will carry that day with me for the rest of my life. These were the kinds of views and feelings that shift your perspective permanently.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano was exceptional. He meshed so naturally with every personality in our group and handled the entire week with calm strength and humour, even after a challenging start with a person early in the trip. His deadpan comments were perfectly timed and became a highlight for many of us. When I slipped and landed on my butt, I said I was fine, and he responded with a straight face, “If you wanted to sit down, you could have just told me.” It broke any embarrassment and kept the momentum of the day going. That moment sums up his energy: supportive, present, knowledgeable and patient. It honestly felt like travelling with a close friend who also effortlessly guided us through every trail without it ever seeming to affect him. His passion for the region and the care he had for our group made the trip unforgettable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is a real Level 3 and preparation is important. It is beautiful and rewarding, but physically demanding if your body isn’t used to this type of terrain. Train your legs for descending stairs, not just climbing them. I prepped using the stair master every day, but I didn’t realize how much of the trip would challenge the muscles you use going down. Strengthening those beforehand makes a world of difference. Bring poles, drink water and most importantly, stop and take in the views. It is not just optional; it is essential, for your body, your mind and your soul. There is nothing like these landscapes and it is worth slowing down to truly absorb them. Trust your guide, trust your gut and embrace every moment. If you are lucky enough to have Veriano as your tour leader, you are in very good hands.

Wonderful View, Great Company

We are an Australian couple who are first time Exodus clients. We had a wonderful week hiking the stunning Amalfi Coast in September with a great group of people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking the Path of the Gods and coming to our first stunning view.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roberta was amazing. She led us so well, kept and us safe, participated at dinner, kept us very well informed prior and during our hikes and assisted with any additional needs from our group including working out a way for someone to participate with an injury. Roberta also with assisted with transport arrangements for forward journeys which would probably be above and beyond her duties.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ensure you are fully aware that the hikes can be challenging. There are lots of steps and inclines and declines but certainly achievable if you are relatively fit and don't have any ongoing physical problems e.g. sore knees. The hotel is very clean and the meals simple but more than adequate in quantity. There are options in town for anyone who wants a change on a free night. Agerola is a lovely, quiet town which was a delight after the crowds in Amalfi and Positano. If you are arriving by train into Naples just make sure you receive clear instructions on where to meet your driver. Unfortunately, we didn't have very good instructions and it took a long time to find him. We just thought the "exit" meant "outside" the station when it actually meant as we exited the platforms. Lucky our driver did speak English.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

This was my first Exodus trip and it was very disappointing. For the pros, the hikes were amazing and the hotel was cozy and comfortable. However, for our group of 16, six of us were placed with a private group of 10 friends who were celebrating a birthday and we were treated as tag alongs. One of the six joined another group and the remaining five were basically ostracized from the group. From the first night where our guide did not meet with us, we felt left out. We were seated separately for meals, given very little instructions, had separate what’s app group set up, etc, while we watched the cohesion of the other groups and how well their group leaders led them. Once or twice, another group leader would come by to give us information after noticing that we were left out. It left a very bitter taste and moved a few of us to tears by the end of the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The climb to the summit of Vesuvius

Thoughts on Group Leader

Not communicative enough and very sparse with information.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make great connections.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, although we’re truly sorry to hear that your first Exodus experience didn’t meet your expectations. While we’re pleased you enjoyed the hikes and the comfort of the Hotel Due Torri, we regret that the group dynamics left you feeling excluded.
We’ve spoken with the leader, who clarified that efforts were made to share key information and ensure all group members were informed and included, despite the challenges. That said, we understand that your experience didn’t reflect the welcoming and cohesive environment we strive to create on all our adventures.
Your feedback is important to us, and we’re reviewing how we manage group dynamics to ensure all guests feel equally supported and connected. We hope you’ll consider giving us another opportunity to deliver the kind of memorable and inclusive adventure we’re known for.

The Exodus Team

Team Spirit

This was my first walking tour and I loved it. We had a wonderful guide Theresa and a great group. We also had springtime flowers, the cliffs, the water, and Italian food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through poppies, olive trees, and lemon trees, and seeing the water.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Terrific, knowledgeable, organized.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I'm not sure what the difference is between walking and hiking anymore. I liked the walk, but be prepared for a more difficult walk than the Trip Notes indicate.

High and Low on the Amalfi Coast

Fantastic views of the Amalfi Coast were always in sight. Three of the hikes have a couple of thousand stairs each which made mornings a little less comfortable until our calves became acclimatized. The recognizable landmarks helped with orientation when we caught sight of them from varying perspectives on different days, thus providing a strong sense of the geography of the area. There are abundant olives, lemons, oranges, figs, and other fruits in terraced farms along the way, with occasional clusters of pale houses in the larger towns we visited.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the highest point on Vesuvius, and walking the ridgeline of Capri

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nico was humorous, informative, and took time to indicate landmarks that we would eventually view from multiple perspectives. He is an excellent representative of the Exodus ideal.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be ready for stairs of all heights and lengths to allow access to constant coastal views.

Amazing Amalfi Coast

My second trip with Exodus; did not disappoint. Lots of stairs, as well described in notes. Hotel great, food stellar
Nico amazing guide, Eduardo, amazing driver 😌

Most Inspirational Moment

Vesuvius volcano visit, up close; as well, Path of the Gods

Nico

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bomerano is higher, nestled in the mountains. Cooler than on the coast. Bring layers

Lovely Experience but three “issues”

So the views were beautiful, the walks invigorating, the company a joy. But I have to comment on three things. 1) Eduardo did us wrong arranging our trip out of Bomerano. We had originally booked a private transfer to the airport but changed plans after the trip began. I sent a request to Exodus to change it but never heard back. I called and was told someone would call me back. Never happened. I asked our tour leader and he said Eduardo was in charge of that at the local level. I met with Eduardo in person and he agreed verbally to take three of us to the ferry dock. When the day came he refused on the basis of the fact that one other person who needed to go to the airport had joined our private transfer. Then Eduardo added another guy not from the tour who needed to buy or pick up something in another town along the way. When I complained that here we had all paid extra for this private transfer and we got driven through this other town in all kinds of traffic and waited while this guy did his errand, Eduardo still refused to take us to the ferry dock even though he had verbally agreed to do so. Very unimpressive. 2) I understand why the itinerary had to be updated several times due to weather BUT we could never be sure what was what because it was hard to keep in mind the details of the sometimes confusing verbal instructions we were told each night. A simple email or WhatsApp set of detailed instructions about the next day sent each evening would have solved this issue. 3) both the room by the pool where we met each evening to get our information for the next day and the dining room have the most horrendous acoustics, making it hard to hear the verbal instructions, unpleasant to dine there, and less able to enjoy our fellow traveler’s company or even the meal. Some carpeting or acoustic panels on the ceilings or meeting in a different room would have solved this.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Path of the Gods!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nico was very careful and took his responsibilities to us very seriously. This was surely not easy as the walks were challenging and I’d guess the average age in our group was mid-seventies. Anything could have happened but thanks to Nico there were no casualties.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for highlighting both the memorable and challenging aspects of your trip. We’re delighted to hear that the views, walks, and group camaraderie made for an enjoyable adventure overall.

We’re very sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with your transfer arrangements. We understand how frustrating it must have been to receive conflicting information and to have a verbal agreement not honoured. This is not the level of service we aim to provide, and we’re reviewing our local processes to ensure clearer communication and accountability in future.

Your suggestion regarding daily itinerary updates is greatly appreciated. We agree that a simple written summary via WhatsApp would make it easier for guests to stay informed, especially when plans shift due to weather. This already happens on some of our trips and we’re looking at ways we can improve the use of WhatsApp across the board.

We also appreciate your feedback on the acoustics in the meeting and dining areas. Creating a comfortable environment for briefings and meals is important, and we’ll share your comments with the property to explore possible improvements.

Thank you again for your thoughtful review. Your insights help us improve, and we hope to welcome you on another adventure soon.

Veriano Verde

Advice for Potential Travellers

Its more than just a hiking trip, but don't forget your hiking boots!

A wonderwalk up in the sky.

This holiday definitely maybe the perfect mix. There was challenging walking on the Path of the Gods along the beautiful Amalfi coast. Next we were off exploring the impressive historic remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum and daring the crater edge at Vesuvius. Happily immersing ourselves in the food and culture of the region, we were treated to artisan cheese making, cookery demonstrations and participation, limoncello tasting with the expert, and time to enjoy a gelato or three in the sunshine under the bluest November skies. It was even warm enough for a refreshing swim in the sea after conquering all the steps down to Amalfi and again at pretty Positano. The boat ride from Positano was a brilliant way to see all the villages from the sea. Add in glorious Ravello, its wonderful gardens and the breathtaking views from the path down to lovely Atrani, with a little Escher art tour as an added bonus to complete the picture. With our superb, expert guide Veriano and the warmest hotel staff you could wish for, our group of strangers quickly became a team of friends, laughing and singing our way through an extremely enjoyable excursion in Italy.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking the crater of Vesuvius was truly awesome and visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum, the latter on our day off, was extremely moving. Conquering the Path of the Gods and so many steps was a challenge, but satisfying once my thighs recovered. The gardens and infinity terrace at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello and the Piazza at Sante Maria Maddelena in Atrani were breathtakingly beautiful. Ravello and Atrani were both so lovely, and much more peaceful than the larger villages and towns.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano was superb, from the moment he met us at the airport until our final goodbyes he dedicated himself to making our experience the best it could be, going way beyond our expectations. He knows the area intimately, was highly experienced and competent, and led the walks professionally, with care, courtesy and good humour, whilst emphasising that we needed to follow his advice and instructions in order to cope with the terrain. He managed a challenging situation on the first day with calm competence, transferring a struggling members of our group to vehicles at the earliest opportunity after physically supporting them down a considerable number of steps to the nearest road . As a life long local, his passion for and knowledge of the history and landscape enriched our walks, he took time to show us the flora and geology and lead us to spots off the normal tourist route. He had a great relationship with the hotel staff, joining in the fun at the cookery demos and dining with us every night, even on his day off. With his strong connections we were guaranteed the best guides at Vesuvius and Pompeii, friendly competent drivers, and local artisans happy to entertain us and allow us to sample their wares. He was reliable, amiable and sociable, had a good sense of humour and by the end of the week knew us so well he had even made a personalised playlist for our singalong on the minibus journey to Ravello. The hotel staff also deserve a mention- they were so friendly, learning all our names and making the evenings such fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes carefully and seriously consider whether you will be able to cope with the terrain. There are long sustained periods of steep, uneven steps down from the Path of the `Gods to Nocelle and Positano, 2,500 in total and more again from Bomerano to Amalfi and from Ravello to Atrani. Although mostly down this still puts considerable strain on your thighs, knees and calfs. Walking poles help but you do need strong legs. Take the advice to carry 1.5 litres of water, even in November we needed to hydrate regularly. Use your day off to visit either Herculaneum, much better preserved than Pompeii, smaller in scale and a great museum . Another great alternative is the beautiful Ravello and its gardens. Grouping together to share the transport costs will make this less expensive.

An unforgettable trip!

Beautiful scenic walks with rewarding views. Despite some challenging steps, it was way worth it to soak in the surroundings of the coastline.
Along with great food and great company, couldn’t ask for more!

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Vesuvius and exploring the crater of one of the world's most famous volcanoes.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano was great! He took care of the group on the walks and answered any questions we had along the way. We also had some real laughs despite challenges on the way. He was very patient and understanding and this allowed for a great week!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hiking Shoes with good ankle support. There are a lot of steps on some of these walks, so please bare that in mind. Layers for travelling during the winter months.
