Discover the Baltics

The food is very pork and potatoes based but are very big potions. The weather was very changeable, with sunshine and showers in the same day.

Most Inspirational Moment

The visit to Trakei Castle, the sun way shining and the bird singing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jolita was amazing, she had an amazing knowledge of each of the three countries and made the long drives interesting. She was always willing to help and answer questions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take many layers of clothing and either a brolly or waterproof coat as the weather can change in an instant.

National Parks Walks

10 days of the most amazing scenery & fun activities. Each of the National Parks we visited was stunning, and all very different. Good variety of walking trails, lots of photo opportunities, very comfortable hotels, and excellent guides. Quite a full-on itinerary, some long drives, but a perfect way to see a lot of beautiful things in just 10 days.

Most Inspirational Moment

I don't think I've had so many stand-out moments from a 10 day trip before. Often many in a single day... The first sight of Delicate Arch, and then just sitting there with it in front of us, waiting for the sunset, while eating dinner carried up by our guides. Sunrise at Bryce Canyon - really special. First view of Grand Canyon - lit up at sunset - wow! Angels Landing, Zion NP - after you've done it you don't think of it as being that scary.... but before you do it, when you are looking at the way ahead, it looks pretty terrifying!! Wading through the Narrows in Zion - a lot of fun. A fantastic walk through Canyonlands NP including squeezing through the Joint Trail.

Evan & Brendan were outstanding - full of enthusiasm & information about everywhere we went. On the first day they told us that they wanted to make this the best holiday ever, and then proceeded to do everything they possible could to make that happen. Lots of optional activities, sunset / sunrise trips, anything anyone asked for seemed to be possible. They organised some nice early starts, which meant we were on the trails before they got too busy (perfect for Angel's Landing), and also so we got the most out of every day. They also cooked a great BBQ at Dead Horse Point - another highlight.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take clothes for all weathers - it was freezing cold at the Grand Canyon & raining (some snow on the ground the next morning), .. and then a couple of days later in Canyonlands we were scorching in shorts and worrying about the heat! Proper water bottles are good - loads of places to fill them up. I'm not used to such luxury accommodation - very comfortable - no need to take a hairdryer or a travel towel!! You do spend a lot of time on the bus, but it is a lovely bus and everyone is encouraged to sit in different seats each day to share the pain of the wheel arch seats at the back. Some long days, but I think that's a good thing (much better to pack loads into 10 days rather than have 3 weeks at a slow pace and more expense!) If seeing Las Vegas is your thing, then book some extra nights there - otherwise no time. I was worried that paying for all the meals on top would be expensive - it wasn't at all - we could buy our own supermarket food for breakfast and store it in cool boxes in the trailer (so if you don't eat big brekkie - bargain!). Guides also organised a lunch kitty - we paid $53.30 each and for that had 8 picnic / packed lunches plus 2 dinners (and we ate a lot....) So that only left the remaining dinners to pay for, which weren't expensive. You need to get into the habit of tipping all the time!

Walking in Madeira

This was an excellent trip with 5 varied walks and beautiful views

Most Inspirational Moment

Definitely the breath taking views

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre was very knowledgeable and interesting about the native plants and birds. He looked after the group very well as there was a wide range of walking ability in the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walk on day 4 is long, high and tiring but extremely worthwhile. Andre made sure everyone went at their own pace and completed the walk. We did have beautiful weather which helped!

From the olives to the mountains

A fairly gentle week’s walking though I’d imagine it would be a lot harder in the heat of summer. We had torrential rain on the first day’s walk (unusual) but the weather after that was a very pleasant at 25 to 30 degrees C. The atmosphere at the farmhouse was very relaxed, and it was lovely not to have to worry about room keys (you’re in the countryside, a long way from crime and annoyances). It’s worth noting that the days are relatively short, so there is fair amount of time spent back at the farmhouse in the afternoon waiting for dinner at 8pm – fine if you like relaxing, not so good if you like to be active.

Most Inspirational Moment

The morning walk towards Caños Santos monastery took us through farmland with beautiful spring flowers - lush green scenery that you wouldn't normally associate with this part of Spain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alexis was a very relaxed but professional leader, and speaks at least four languages including Spanish. He did an excellent job at charming the officials at El Chorro Gorge to let us walk down part of the gorge, despite the fact we hadn't booked and that tour groups are not usually allowed through.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's worth noting that the wine included in dinner is only red wine - if you prefer white you'll need to buy it. Be aware that if you walk uphill from the farmhouse the dogs will follow you for a walk - there's no avoiding it! If going in spring make sure to take an umbrella and have a rucksack cover (unlike me). Also watch out for cowpats!

Loved every minute of the Picos

Great walks and scenery, lovely guide and support staff, great accommodation and catering – there’s no reason not to book right now!

Most Inspirational Moment

Some of the walks were quite challenging and if felt very rewarding to complete them. Alvaro the guide knows the Picos so well that he takes the group on walks that aren't marked which means that the group has the Picos all to themselves.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvaro is amazing. He is very knowledgeable about the area and the environment and its history, and very passionate about walking and making sure that everyone has a great time. It was a pleasure to spend a week with him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

All you really need are good hiking shoes, a waterproof jacket and a fleece. Probably waterproof pants would be good too. If you have more specialised clothing and equipment like walking poles then that's great, but don't feel like you need to buy a whole lot of gear to be prepared. We were really lucky with weather and I walked in pants and a tshirt, with a light jumper for the mornings and when we stopped for lunch. There are some really well priced hiking stores in Arenas de Cabrales where you can buy any clothing or equipment that you need. There's time on the afternoon that you arrive to shop, and the stores are open in the evening.

Best holiday ever!

This holiday combined the best of everything as far as I was concerned: a beautiful country with friendly people, great cycling, delicious food and a really good group of people we were lucky enough to travel with. Looked after by a great team too.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the Hai Van Pass. I nearly gave up but so glad I made it. Also, like so many other people have written, cycling through little villages and children running out to wave and shout hello - it's the nearest I'll ever get to being a celebrity! It's also difficult to miss the fairly recent 'American War' and that brought some poignant moments too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Long was truly inspirational! He is a very professional leader, funny, knowledgeable, good cyclist and we all respected him. His organisational skills were second to none.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It really pays to get fit before this trip. I would call myself a weekend cycler and I had built up my level of cycling before the trip to do cycle rides of 30 miles. If I'd had more time, I would have liked to have done even more because nothing can prepare you for the heat. Also padded shorts and chamois cream were a must!

excellent trip

highly recommend this trip to the walkers out there, who don’t mind the kind of walks that will throw in a small challenge now and again.

Most Inspirational Moment

the views on all the walks were breath taking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Christine was a very helpful, knowledgeable, caring and friendly guide.

Walking in Mallorca

A fantastic week of walking on the beautiful island of Mallorca. Every walk was different and spectacular in its own right. The hotel in Soller was very comfortable, centrally located with a great buffet breakfast. The nights at Lluc made a good contrast. Good company, great food and a fine dry week. Usual Exodus efficiency.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cannot pick one. Every day I thought that the walks couldn't get better - but they did.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduard was a delight. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all thing Mallorcan.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I found poles invaluable. We were lucky with weather but imagine some paths could be slippery in the wet. Layer up if you go early or late season, the wind can be quite cold higher up.

Touring like a VIP

I watched the camel running alongside me for a while before my attention returned to the climb ahead. It looked steep, but I could see the top so I wasn’t worried. Super-fit Andy was blasting ahead as usual and almost at the top, pursuing our even fitter cycling leader. I felt I could catch them, even in the fierce heat. My bike was a good one and rolling so easily on thin tyres that all I had to do was tuck in for a slight downhill and I’d gain enough momentum to carry me halfway up the slope. Energy from the delicious bananas handed out by our tour guide at the last stop would take care of the rest, and I could look around at the stunning desert landscape. The cycling leader, half my age and riding a proper racing bike, came flying back down the hill, then returned to pass me a few minutes later, out of the saddle with legs pounding like pistons. Show off.

Our police escort followed him past, driving their huge SUV with red and blue lights flashing on the roof and Arabic police markings on the side. They accompanied us on all the cycling sections, stopping traffic at junctions and making it easy to imagine that we were part of the Tour de France. Special treatment that made us feel like we were honoured guests. We also had a tourist police officer with us on the bus at all times, speeding us through checkpoints and escorting us on foot to the tourist sites, stopping traffic so that we could cross the road. It felt like being a VIP but it wasn’t even necessary because the locals were so friendly. Where the traffic was a nightmare and locals have to risk their lives, drivers would see a group of tourists and stop for us. Even taxi drivers would halt, smiling and waving us across. They treat tourists well. Even in the shops they don’t try to take advantage of you, and the most delicious freshly made falafel sandwich will still only set you back about 50p.

A local car came over the hill ahead of me, going very slowly with kids hanging out of the back windows to take a look at us. There weren’t many cars on the roads we’d been cycling – traffic became a point of interest rather than a danger. As the car came level I heard the familiar cry of “Welcome to Jordan!”. What a country.

I reached the top of the hill and came through a pass cut into the rock, which opened up to reveal more great views across a valley, and the even more welcome sight of our bus with its fridge full of cold drinks. I needed one. My legs were still tired from hiking 13 miles up and down the rocks at Petra, a place with such atmosphere, such awe inspiring history and ancient craft that it will never leave you.

I couldn’t wait to get to our desert camp at Wadi Rum, for an evening of camel riding, freshly roasted feasting around the camp fire and a night under the stars, but I also knew that would mean the end of our cycling and I didn’t want it to stop.

Most Inspirational Moment

Feeling like having the world to myself and being surrounded by ancient culture as I rested in complete solitude at Petra's High Place of Sacrifice, views across miles of rock and history but not another person in sight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Informative, outgoing, friendly and obviously so interested and enthusiastic about what he was telling us, even though it must be the thousandth time he'd said it. Top notch.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hang around in Petra until late. The light changes and the colours become so much richer. People leave and the whole place becomes so much more atmospheric. Don't worry about the supposed 6:30pm closing time - stay as long as you want. Walking back out through the Siq on your own as darkness falls is unforgettable.
