Brilliant trip in the beautiful Alps

We can’t recommend this trip highly enough – the trip is a challenging walk with more ascent and descent than Everest but the scenery, culture and experience are just outstanding. The sense of achievement on completing the TMB is amazing. Our group came from all corners of the world but we quickly formed a really close-knit group, together with our wonderful leaders Kieron and Shaun. The tents are spacious and the black-out means they stay cool, and dark in the mornings. Each day started with a chorus of unzipping the tents, and then we had breakfast and packed up the camp ready for the next days adventure. The trip is divided into 3-5 days of walking followed by a rest day, where you can chose from lots of activities, including chilling in the campsite, shopping, visiting a spa, e-biking, ascending by cable car or train to the glaciers, or even paragliding!! This allows tired legs to recover, and for everyone to have an adventure at their own pace. Kieron’s cooking was amazing, and we also ate out in restaurants on some nights which were included. The campsites are clean and quiet, and offer amazing up-close views of the mountains. Shaun was a great guide, with lots of local knowledge and he kept us all together, even on the toughest days. There was always time for coffee and cake at one of the many refuges or alpages along the route.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing up to the top of the Cols, to find yourself in another country - during the trip you pass from France to Switzerland, then Italy, and back to France again. The views are stunning and you know that it is going to be downhill all the way to the tent from then on!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Shaun was our mountain guide. He judged the ability of the group really well, and found interesting variations to the route, when it was very busy. He had lots of local knowledge and was great company Kieron was the camp leader, and made sure we always had the flattest pitches, lots of lovely food, and a well-stocked bar! The organisation was brilliant, and he produced amazing food from his tiny kitchen, whilst inspiring us all with his paragliding stories. Even the washing up was a bonding experience!

Advice for Potential Travellers

We would really recommend camping on this trip - it was comfortable and added to the adventure, with stunning views from the front door of your tent. The group were really supportive, the route was well-planned and there was a lovely balance of organised and free time. The leaders absolutely made our trip so memorable, thank you to Kieron and Shaun!

Amazing

This was a fantastic trip walks a good pace and the scenery was breath taking Hotel food was good very accommodating to non pasta eaters like myself always had an alternative Lunches were freshly made with a choice of fillings daily Hotel clean and comfortable good location

Most Inspirational Moment

The whole group walking the rim of Vesuvius What an experience

Thoughts on Group Leader

Teressa was brilliant she was friendly and helpful with a great knowledge of the area The group bonded from the first night with a good fun vibe Teressa very quickly saw we were all there to have fun and get on as a group She seemed to really enjoy the groups company even joining us for the bbq night on her day off

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get some hilly walking in before you go I am a very regular walker and was glad I put in a bit of extra training before the trip Lots of steps down are tough be prepared for sore calf mussels

Incredible Wildlife

We got very lucky on our trip and saw so much wildlife, including the Big 5 – even the black Rhino and Leopard! Our group leader and crew were all amazing and so helpful. The journeys are very long and bumpy, and can get very dusty – but you see so much, its worth it. We were given the option to upgrade our accommodation a few times, which was nice to get a bed. But the basic camping was also a great experience and still had decent facilities like showers and toilets. The beach stay at Paje in Zanzibar was a lovely end to the trip – I didn’t want to leave!

Most Inspirational Moment

Wild camping in the Serengeti and hearing the lions roaring nearby during the night - unforgettable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Darlene was great - so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, very fun group!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a good torch/headtorch Bring small denominations of 'crispy' currency (USD post 2017) for tipping Pack layers for the colder nights Take a good camera with decent zoom lens Print out all your travel documents, like e-visas. Pack toilet paper and hand sanitizer - be prepared for basic facilities during the journey.

Fantastic!

Just returned from two weeks walking the Tour du Mont Blanc. It was a fantastic experience, at times hard work, but every drop of perspiration was worth the effort. Excellent group camaraderie; everyone got on very well and the two groups leaders – Shaun and Kieron – were first rate. The evening meals were very good, often restaurant standard. Would whole-heartedly recommend the trip. Just make sure you are fit enough for the challenge of the long climbs.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the entire Mont Blanc massif from the other sides of the Chamonix and Aosta valleys.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Shaun knew his stuff and didn't hold back from telling us when we would be challenged by the terrain. Guidance given when needed and always able to answer questions. Kieran - who looked after the logistics and cooking - was taylor-made for the role. He really should open his own restaurant.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are fit enough before setting off. You don't need to be Superman / Superwoman but you do need to be prepared for long days of strenuous walking.

A Fabulous Trip!

Five amazing and beautiful hikes! A fabulous guide and a lovely host and hostess!

Most Inspirational Moment

We’ve hiked before, but this was hiking on a whole other level. The tips and tricks that allowed us to reach each summit was inspirational and the nature and beauty around us was picture perfect.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Maria was inspirational and kind. He encouraged us, helped keep us safe and provided us with tips along the way. He was an excellent guide with a love of nature.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The hikes can be challenging. The best attitude is a positive, “can do” attitude.

"Walking and bears"

Well organised trip, faultless hosts at Villa Hermani and an excellent leader in Sebi. The scenery was amazing and the walks were all excellent and well paced for our group. The bear watching in the hide was outstanding.

Most Inspirational Moment

Bear watching in the hide along with our host Katharina's knowledge and dedication of the brown bears and their protection.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sebi was excellent. He assessed our group's walking ability on the first day and adjusted the pace accordingly on subsequent days. He was friendly and very approachable and would answer any questions we had about the routes, landscape, wildlife and Romania. He became part of the group rather than just the leader. His English and knlowledge of his own area and country was excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks are very much as described and I would definitely recommend walking poles, mainly for the descents down some rocky paths.

Just 'Bears!'

This was a really interesting trip in rural Romania; we were blessed with amazing weather, so the views and scenery were quite beautiful. The trip was a good mix of sight seeing, exploring and walking. The walking wasn’t difficult and very leisurely, plenty of time to soak in the surroundings. Personally, I would have enjoyed more walking , but visiting Bran Castle and Brasov was interesting. The visit to the bear hide was undoubtedly the highlight, we watched 9 females and 5 cubs for over an hour, a very special moment. The guest house was comfortable and the food was delicious, home cooked and plentiful. There were no options, vegetarians and vegans may struggle.

Most Inspirational Moment

Has to be the bears, watching bears in the wild was an absolute privilege, Katerina who ran the guest house, is a passionate bear supporter, it was so interesting and informative listening to her.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sebi was a great leader, he ensured our week was the best it could be. The walking pace and experience of our group was quite diverse, he managed the differing paces and needs with ease.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just to be aware, the guest house is in a rural community, hot water is not a given; showers were often on the chilly side. We extended our stay and enjoyed a few days in Bucharest, would recommend the city, lots to see, easy and safe to get around, and reasonably priced.

Simply superb

It’s hard to put into words how fantastic the trip was. Everything was amazing; the staff, the scenery, the itinerary and everything else in between. It’s been the first holiday in a long while where I could have just stayed there and set up a new life.

Most Inspirational Moment

Each time you got to the crest of one of the hills, turned a corner or looked up at the crystal clear night sky you were greeted with something awe inspiring

Thoughts on Group Leader

If you can get on a trip with Valerie, I would implore you to do so. She is so knowledgeable about Ladakh as she has spent the last 40+ years coming to this part of the world. She was also a brilliant listener and troubleshooter for when you had an issue which is what you need when you are in a fairly remote part of the world.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take around £200-£250 over as whilst it is very cheap to eat over there, it soon seems to go with purchases of drinks etc

Exhilarating and Invigorating

Comfortable, attractive, beautifully located accommodation, perfectly suited to its intended purpose.
This was complemented in particular by the hosts Adrian and Elena, who went out of their way to welcome us. Courteous, friendly, attentive and professional in their roles, plus excellent in their choice of food provision, particularly dinner to come back to after the strenuous walks which amassed an appetite!
Maria the tour guide really added to the pleasure of the walks, with his manner, friendliness, enthusiasm and planning of routes.
A good friend of mine joined me on this trip, his first with Exodus. Used to beach holidays with his kids, this holiday, the hosts and the scenery exceeded his expectations. He’ll be an Exodus regular yearly now.
I’ll repeat this trip periodically due to the ongoing beauty of the Mont Blanc surroundings. Between these trips, I look forward to visiting other locations with Exodus.
