The Sanitation Project, Laos

Since 2012, Exodus have been working closely with Baraka Community Partnerships in the northern province of Luang Prabang, to help address the imbalance of basic necessities such as healthcare, clean water, sanitation through The Sanitation Project.

This is a project we are continuing to implement, even in the face of COVID-19, in an effort to help protect this community from the devastating impacts of the virus. The urgency to provide adequate sanitation through working toilet facilities in the Na San Village, in Luang Prabang Province is more important now than ever before to help protect the local communities during this unprecedented crisis.

Exodus is funding the construction of an individual sanitation block for every one of the 26 households who don’t currently have one, using a gravity flow water system, so hygiene, safety, and dignity for people in the community can be restored.

Current legislation advises that the small community of Na San is on lockdown at a community level, not a household level. So, it’s great to see the community coming together to build these blocks to help their families for future generations to come. During uncertain times, these inspiring projects help to foster community spirit and encourage a sense of common endeavor, towards a brighter future when the world reopens.

Thanks to our funding and your generous contributions, our contacts on the ground say they are making good progress and are aiming to get the blocks built before the rainy season begins at the end of April.
