We believe travel can and should be a force for good, which is why we passionately seek to improve life through travel — for the places we visit, the people we meet, and the planet we explore. This also includes proactively seeking ways we can lower the carbon footprint on our trips, which can involve actions like eating locally sourced food, eliminating single-use plastics and using renewable energy sources, where possible.
Collaborating with carbon consultancy firm, eCollective, we’ve mapped out the carbon footprint for every one of our trips. But how have we gone about this? Our teams have calculated the carbon emissions of our transport, accommodation, activities, food and number of guides to determine how much CO2 is used on our adventures. Based on these calculations, we’re launching our new Lower Carbon Collection, designed to highlight selected trips that generate less CO2 per person, per night. These calculations, however, do not include transport by other providers to and from our destinations. We recognise that travelling to our destinations might result in high levels of emissions, which is why we encourage our travellers to choose lower carbon options where available, including train travel.
Our partner, Byway, one of the leading UK-based slow travel providers, can help you plan selected journeys with us in Europe. So, why not discover the well-waymarked paths and prehistoric forests Walking the Island of La Palma? Or wander through sweeping gorges in the Lakes & Mountains of Slovenia? For a country-spanning adventure on two wheels, our Cycle the Balkans trip allows you to explore historic old towns and spectacular national parks. Our Finnish Wilderness Week also takes you on a lower-carbon adventure into the remote snow-caked forests, where your accommodation for the week, Basecamp Oulanka is heated sustainably, using special wood pellets for fuel.
