Stunning landscapes, good walking

Who would have thought (without this trip) that there could be such astonishingly lively, unspoiled and (for the most part) unfrequented mountain terrain – and such beautiful and varied walking – just a stone’s throw from the infamous high-rise resort of Benidorm?

Most Inspirational Moment

If high places, sweeping views, dramatic cliffs and rock formations, sun, sky, sea, forest, wild flowers and a general absence of people rock your boat, the trip will be full of inspiring moments.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Also inspiring. Extremely knowledgable about his region, and generous in sharing a vast and varied range of information on all sorts of (interesting) topics, which further enriched the walks. Funny, engaging, astute; he was fundamentally kind-hearted but without being particularly indulgent. He kept an eye on us, but didn't coddle us. We were expected to take responsibility for ourselves (and for keeping up) on the walks. And It was stated at the outset that there could/would be limited tolerance for dawdlers! In an ideal world, and given the glorious October weather, I'd probably have enjoyed the walks (even more than I already did) at a slightly more relaxed pace, the better to absorb the magnificent surroundings en route and probably take more photos; but I was still able to do both things - just maybe a little more hurriedly than I am used to. I imagine that the pace/timetable was however in part dictated by the amount José had still to achieve following our daily return from the walk, including the next day's shopping and picnic preparation. He was a one-man tour-de-force organisationally: incredibly hardworking/dedicated to the cause. He provided excellently for us at lunchtime daily (making genuinely the most tasty and satisfying sandwiches that I've ever been fed on a walking holiday!) as well as transporting us safely and punctually by minibus, organising, leading, educating and entertaining us throughout the trip. And only occasionally appeared a bit weary.. 😉

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hone your fitness to enjoy the walks to the full. Be prepared for long, steep ascents and descents. Make sure you're prepared for cold mountaintops even in good weather (in October, anyway). Be prepared for a superb week of walking and scenery. Make sure you download either maps.me or the app José recommends before you do the first self-guided walk: it will ensure you find the correct route. The local village of Guadalest is very attractive and the castle well worth paying to enter/explore. The midweek day-trip to the coast is also very worthwhile and both towns are well worth exploring. The little history museum in the first coastal town is worth a visit.

A wonderful introduction to Costa Rica’s natural wonders

This trip truly lives up to its name and was an unforgettable way to experience Costa Rica’s incredible biodiversity. From lush rainforests and wildlife-rich national parks to volcanic landscapes and the coast, the itinerary felt perfectly balanced and thoughtfully paced, with each destination offering something new and exciting.

One of the real highlights was the wildlife. Seeing animals in their natural habitat was a daily occurrence, made even more special by the expertise of our local leader. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and ability to spot wildlife we would otherwise have missed added huge value to the experience and brought the landscapes to life.

The trip also offered a great mix of guided walks, scenic drives and time to simply take in the surroundings, making it feel immersive without ever being rushed. Early starts were well worth it for the rewarding wildlife encounters and peaceful moments in nature.

Overall, this adventure is ideal for anyone wanting to explore Costa Rica’s natural highlights in depth, with the reassurance of excellent organisation and an outstanding local leader. A truly memorable journey through one of the world’s most beautiful and biodiverse countries.

Most Inspirational Moment

Spotting a mother slot with her baby high in the trees and watching them move slowly through the canopy, completely at home in their natural environment. With our leader explaining its behaviour and conservation, it was a quiet, magical moment that perfectly captured the beauty of Costa Rica’s wildlife and the importance of protecting it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent! Humble, caring, attentive, a brilliant story teller and most importantly, he is passionate! Randall was brilliant.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack for all weather, embrace early starts and bring a sense of curiosity. A good pair of walking shoes, lightweight layers and binoculars will really enhance the experience. Most importantly, slow down and take it all in — some of the best moments come from standing quietly and letting Costa Rica’s wildlife reveal itself.

Perfect way to experience the best of Sri Lanka!

This truly is an excellent trip, and way to see beautiful Sri Lanka at a good pace. You cover so much in 2 weeks, and every day is different with sightseeing, walking, cycling, wildlife – there really is something for everyone. Sri Lanka is a fantastic country with wonderfully welcoming people.
This trip really makes you feel you are benefitting the local communities that you are interacting with – spending time with local families, playing traditional games and getting a deeper understanding day-to-day life and traditions. You get a better understanding for the tougher and sadder side of the history of the country, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the resilience of the joyful people who live there. It really is a wonderful trip, made better by a great group and leader!

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking Sigiriya Rock - an amazing view from the top and sense of achievement for the group! The times spent with local families were also highlights - fantastic lunch under a banyan tree and hearing more about their local business, and playing traditional games on a families farm, our group had so much fun this day and shared loads of laughs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan was the epitome of a fantastic guide. He's been leading this tour for 20+ years and his knowledge, expertise and professionalism is stand-out. We were unlucky to be on this tour when Cyclone Ditwah hit, and Roshan was absolutely fantastic looking after us as a group, arranging excellent "Plan B's" where needed, while also managing a really sad and devastating situation happening in his country. He brought calmness and good humour every day and is a brilliant ambassador for Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with the flow and just enjoy it - November is rainy, but expect that, and be open to plans changing and trusting the guides judgement to still make every day brilliant. All optional activities need to be paid for in cash, so take some local currency or exchange it on arrival, as the first ATM is a few days away on the tour, and not everywhere accepts card payments (some lunch stops). Be prepared for hotel buffets - the accommodation is great, but often further away from towns. The food was often a wide variety and always tasty. Take good mosquito repellent from home, and plenty of it - you can't buy DEET there! The bus can get chilly with air conditioning - suggest leaving a jumper/extra layer on the bus for this - especially for the longer journeys

Unforgettable trip along the Annapurnas!

This trip was unforgettable! Many people choose to do the Annapurna Circuit on their own and they mainly follow the Jeep track, which didn’t appeal to us. We were so happy and grateful that we decided to go with Exodus – we had the best guides! Sukman and his assistant guides Dipendra and Lakpa Sherpa were fantastic.

We had knock knock tea in the mornings – loved that part, and followed a mix of alternate trails (that weren’t well known) with certain sections along the main Jeep track. On those quieter trails, we rarely encountered other trekkers and definitely no other tour groups. We did pass herds of goats and met local people. We only saw other people along the main jeep track.

Two days before reaching Thorong La Pass, we had heavy snow. Thanks to Sukman’s expertise, he made the difficult decision to backtrack immediately. Many trekkers without guides, or those who chose to wait out the storm, ended up stranded at high camp and had to be rescued. We were fortunate to make it safely off the mountain in time, though it meant rerouting the second half of our trip. Even with the detour – we thoroughly this trip thanks to the amazing team. The porters were also incredible companions. Without them, carrying all of our belongings for three weeks would have been tough!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Day 1 was super memorable - we crossed suspension bridges, passing rivers and waterfalls, over rice paddies and hiked up and down many steps through villages. What an intro to what was ahead! One of the most inspiring days for me was Day 7 - starting from Upper Pisang, our Teahouse view was of Annapurna II! We made our way to Ngawal. This day definitely gave us a taste of a continuous climb up as we were just days before the high pass, the views were stunning and it just got better and better as the day unfolded. You look back thinking, I can't believe we came from all the way down *there*.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sukman was exceptionally caring, kind, and patient throughout the trek. He led from the back, ensuring that everyone in the group was well taken care of. Our safety was his top priority. Sukman’s knowledge of the mountains and local life & culture was very inspiring. We would 100% travel with him again in the future!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be mindful of what you pack, and keep your KITBAG weight within the 10kilo limit. You travel with local human porters, who work incredibly hard -something many people don’t fully appreciate. Overpacking can be quite selfish. If you forget something, don’t worry—you’ll still find supplies along the route - For example, in Chame and Manang. We were able to pick up our YakTrax right before Yak Kharka. High altitude is no joke, so having a comfort item can make a big difference. Just remember, keep your load within the weight limits.

A fabulous trip!

This was an amazing trip. We packed a lot in to 2wks. Cities, mosques, kasbahs, medinas, countryside, desert camping (including camels!), mountain villages, hikes, a fishing port. Oh, and some shopping! There were some long travel days, but they didn’t feel long… the bus was comfortable (and our driver Hassan was excellent!), with frequent stops for sights / loo breaks. Also, the scenery was interesting. Our guide Mohamed was superb, one of the best we’ve ever had (and we’ve been lucky with Exodus to always have excellent guides, so the standard is high). One example… We had an unexpected issue with the bus on about day 3 which wasn’t fixable locally, and we all assumed the itinerary for that day might need to change, or at least that we’d be delayed for a while. But thanks to Mohamed’s organisational skills, enough taxis turned up within 20mins to take us all on to our next scheduled stop, with Mohamed following once he’d sorted a replacement bus.

Most Inspirational Moment

Several... mainly in the countryside, desert and mountains. I particularly enjoyed being in the Sahara with the Berber guides playing music (and encouraging us to dance!) around the campfire. Also, the lunch in a village near Skoura. The family who hosted us were utterly charming and welcoming. The hammam in the High Atlas was also a highlight, with two lovely ladies looking after us well.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mohamed was superb as mentioned above. He was approachable, patient, calm, quietly getting on with things. Friendly and easy to be around. He was clearly liked and respected by the various local guides we met, and the people we stayed with or visited in the desert and mountains.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book this trip, you won't regret it! I've read others who've had delays at the airport, we had no trouble at all, it was quick and easy to get through (it's probably improved in recent years). There's no form to complete for a visa, just a few questions at passport control (flight number / hotel details / occupation). Money wise, the exchange rate is slightly worse at the airport than in town. Cashpoints are more expensive in Marrakech than elsewhere (in my experience). If you like buying souvenirs, pack an extra bag for your trip home!

Poor Cycling Experience Coast to Coast

Roberto who was excellent given his limited support

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was a full tour and was under resourced. They group shoud have had a back rider for safety reasons. 80% of the accomodation was below basic and about 50% had no hot water. . .

Reply from Exodus

We’d like to thank Suzanne for sharing her thoughts and for travelling with Exodus. We’re truly sorry that this departure didn’t deliver the experience she expected.
The Coast to Coast itinerary remains the same one so many of our customers have loved, and we’re committed to ensuring it delivers the adventure and enjoyment they expect. Recent feedback—including Suzanne’s—has highlighted areas where we need to do better, and we’ve already taken steps to improve resourcing and logistics so future departures run more smoothly.
We’re equally concerned by the accommodation points she raised, particularly hot‑water reliability. Though this is sometimes unavoidable in rural Costa Rica, we’re auditing the properties used on this tour with our local partners to make sure stays meet our minimum standards.
We’re pleased the wildlife—especially in Tortuguero—and Roberto’s leadership were highlights, and we’ll pass on her praise. Thank you again to Suzanne for her honest review; it helps us improve and keep this much‑loved itinerary delivering the quality our customers deserve.

One of the most interesting tours I have ever done

My husband and I have now done several tours with Exodus and there are many reasons why we keep returning to Exodus, not the least of which include: the staff are helpful and available from beginning to end; the group size is small which makes the logistics more manageable; they put together itineraries in various locations that maximize the most interesting places to see and things to do; their trip notes accurately reflect what to expect and how to prepare for your trip; their guides have incredible knowledge about the various areas;  and they listen and respond to reviews.

Although some days seemed longer than others, “Belize Reef and Ruins” is one of the most interesting tours I have ever done, and the only tour I have ever done twice (in one year).  There was no shortage of opportunity to further my learning about the history of the Mayan civilization, the flora and fauna of Belize, and the present-day life of the Belizean people.  Wherever we went, we were greeted with “Belizean warmth and kindness”.  As I shared with a few of my friends, in spite of the heat, the unrelenting humidity, and the mosquitoes, I wish there were two of me – one to stay in Belize and one to return home.

Most Inspirational Moment

Though I enjoyed all of the various activities, I will highlight just a few. Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary was the perfect laid-back peaceful place to start our tour. It's almost an understatement to say it is a bird lover's paradise! As happened in our group, it even makes birders out of non-birders! And the sunset cruise was absolutely amazing! There was hardly a moment along the way where we weren't spotting something! Tikal - The whole experience of staying in the jungle was pretty amazing in and of itself. Then, setting out in the early morning darkness with only our headlamps/flashlights for light, walking through the jungle, making our way to Temple IV where we would climb to welcome the sunrise was everything and more than I anticipated, and absolutely nothing short of magical! Along the way, our guide had us stop for a moment, and close our eyes, before opening them to view the incredible blanket of stars under which we were walking. Once at the top of Temple IV, and still in darkness, we sat quietly taking in the powerful and thunderous roars of the howler monkeys. Then, just moments before sunrise, we were rewarded once again with an unbelievable concert of "the awakening of the birds". The sunrise was almost surreal (as though someone had painted it). As if that wasn't enough, immediately following the sunrise, and within easy viewing distance, the rare orange breasted falcon was spotted. This whole experience of the jungle coming to life from out of the darkness will be indelibly etched in my memory for a long time to come. Still in Tikal, later that same morning, while exploring other ruins, we were fortunate to encounter a wedding ceremony being celebrated in what we understood to be traditional Mayan way that included the connection to the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. Tubing in the Caves Branch River - unfortunately, the day we were were scheduled to be here, there was a cruise ship in. During our time in the cave, a number of other groups were in the cave at the same time. Because of the echo, and the overpowering noise of so many, it was difficult to hear what our guide was saying. Though certainly not the fault of Exodus, it felt sad that no apparent attempt was made to space the groups out. In the earlier trip I had done, our group was alone in the cave and we were able to benefit not only from the commentary of the guide but also to experience the sounds of the cave in silence and total darkness (when we turned off our headlamps).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jorge was tireless in ensuring that every member of the group was cared for throughout, and that everyone had the opportunity to experience all that the trip had to offer. He did so through continuous sharing of his indepth knowledge of Belize and the history of the Mayan civilization. It seemed no question was beyond his ability to answer. His birding skills were beyond infectious! In our opinion, he is a guide "extraordinaire". Just a word about all of the other local guides and drivers - their enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness to share all served to benefit us and our overall experience of Belize and Tikal (Guatemala). Time and again, I wished I knew as much about my own environment as all of these guides do about theirs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's important to read the trip notes. Be prepared for heat, humidity, bugs, rain, clothes not drying out, some long days, and some long slow drives along potholed roads (particularly in Guatemala). But, also be prepared for an adventure of a lifetime!

A wonderful trip!

This trip is 2 weeks full of interesting history, places, culture and food. The perfect way to experience Mexico and all that it has to offer; from the city, to the jungle, to the beach, to the colonial towns and everything in between!

Most Inspirational Moment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant! Edwin was so knowledgeable, he always had an answer for everyone's questions. He was so enthusiastic about Mexico and making sure we all had a wonderful time whilst there

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take decent sturdy shoes for walking through ruins and archaeological sites. Save your pesos coins, you’ll need these to use the public toilets.
