This trip was more amazing than I expected. The real stars were our travel guides Ian and Andy. Empathetic, caring, knowledgeable about the landscape and wildlife. Great cooks too.

In the far south of Namibia, the stupendous Fish River Canyon carves itself into the earth. It’s the largest canyon in the southern hemisphere, and arguably second only to the Grand Canyon in terms of size. At 160km long, up to 27km wide and over 500m deep, only the Blue Nile Gorge in Ethiopia rivals it for second spot.
Approaching the Fish River Canyon from the north is like arriving from space. The otherworldly landscape breaks up into a series of cliffs and boulders as the river meanders along below. The views from the rim are spectacular, and our Fish River Canyon tours make time for a walk alongside it in the afternoon, to be rewarded by superb sunset views.

There’s plenty of opportunities to discover its wildlife, scenery and culture. It’s quite full on and does involve some long drives but these are small sacrifices compared with the benefits that such a tour offers.
