Kalahari Desert

Kalahari Desert Trips

The Kalahari is a vast sand basin that stretches some 360,000mi (930,000sqkm) across Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, taking in the Okavango Delta and other wetlands. Despite the arid landscape, there’s an abundance of wildlife, including meerkats, Kalahari lions, gemsbok, Cape cobras and other animals. The San people, nomadic hunter-gatherers who are said to be the oldest residents of southern Africa, also live here.

Join one of our small-group adventures to Botswana and Namibia that include Kalahari desert tours. Camp on the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the drier season, and marvel at the spectacular sunsets over the sweltering African savannah. The unruly desert landscape will stay with you long after you leave.

Kalahari Desert Adventure Holidays

I loved the itinerary! We saw so much in Namibia and Botswana. The wild camping was very memorable in the Okavango Delta. The lodge in Etosha National Park was special as we were walking distance to a waterhole and saw rhinos and leopards! We saw all of the Big 5 on the trip. The sand dunes were a highlight as well. I felt extremely safe as a solo female traveler on the trip. Everything was outstanding on the trip, and very well done. I also loved the group and sharing the experience with like-minded people.

Erica Kaplan Botswana & Namibia: Delta & Dunes

Having done a safari in lodges in Kenya 20+years ago, we wanted to experience the adventure of a safari under canvas, getting up close to the wildlife of Botswana. Oh boy! We were not disappointed. This was the most thrilling holiday we’ve ever been on; absolutely sensational. Our leader, Brian, and his team were brilliant, making sure everything ran smoothly and we got the most out of each day. Wild camping is an experience like no other. It’s very down-to-earth, can be very hot and dusty, but is a lot more comfortable than you might think. Our party were all 50+years old but adapted to the camping easily. There are lots of early starts, but who cares when you see so much wonderful wildlife. This is an adventure not to be missed.

Fantastic trip to a stunning country with a great guide, cook and team. I’m new to camping and was apprehensive but it was fine and we adjusted much more quickly than expected.
