Five Family Adventures

Read time - 2 minutes

Everything takes longer with a family in tow – right? You may think packing an incredible adventure into a week would be too much hassle and organisation, but we’ve selected five of our favourite family adventures that will engage and inspire young minds in just one week.

You might be looking to make the most a shorter time frame, or perhaps you simply want to achieve something incredible as a family that you'll never forget. Either way, with an Exodus leader on hand and our staff sorting out all the logistics, you're freed up to enjoy an incredible adventure in just one week.

These are perfect half-term holidays for active families looking to pack a lot in, or if you’re travelling over summer, it’s easy for us to organise a second week of relaxation for you afterwards – a week on the beach after an action-packed itinerary has proved especially popular.

Take a look at our five family adventures you can do – together – in just a week.

Achievable: Discover the Secrets of the Rainforest

Sloth hanging around in the jungle

You’d be surprised how much you can fit into a week – even a trip to Central America! In this week-long escape, you can immerse yourself in the jungle, an exciting environment for young minds to explore. The senses will be stimulated by the strange noises of the rainforest, and this is the perfect place to let their imaginations run wild surrounded by monkeys, sloths, colourful toucans and innumerable butterflies!

A barely discernible time difference makes a huge difference for young travellers heading to East Africa. A classic safari is a huge source of excitement at any age – the chance to see iconic species like lions, leopards and elephants right before your eyes. Our sensitively run safaris are ideal for young travellers, though a little patience goes a long way for the early morning game drives.

Achievable: Uncover an Ancient Civilisation

Chichen ItzaChichen Itza

The real thing beats a museum every time. Mexico’s sacred ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum will bring out the bold explorer in any child fond of Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, where you can see the ancient Mayan civilisation brought to life with storytelling and history at your fingertips.

There’s plenty of other activities to mix things up too – swim in tropical turquoise cenotes, get hands-on with a Mexican cookery class led by local chefs, and sweet treats abound at the chocolate-making school. After all that, there’s still time to relax on the white sand beaches of Playa del Carmen.

Sporty teenagers will adore the Ardeche in France, a paradise of mountains, gorges, and clear-flowing rivers. On this adventure you’ll team up in tandem kayaks on a two-day journey down the iconic Ardeche River, navigating the thrilling rapids along the way. Overnight, you’ll stay at an idyllic camp under the stars on the banks of the river itself. But this is far from the only excitement on this mixed-activity week: prepare for rock climbing, abseiling, ziplining and plenty of swimming too.
