Oct 22

A great introduction to Rajasthan, from city to rural and on the edge of desert. A lot of travelling necessary to experience everything, we were well looked after by our guide Chandresh and our driver who managed amazingly through Delhi jams and tricky rural roads. A good range of hotels, some standard could be categorised as comfortable, the on in Delhi was the only let down. Showers were variable and not always hot water but it goes with the territory. We were a small group, just 4, we all got on well and had a good holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Taj without doubt, it cannot fail to impress, beautiful and well worth getting up very early for.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chandresh was a good leader, kept us informed and safe especially when crossing roads in cities. He was very easy going and ready to help with whatever we needed, he took us on extra trips when we wanted to explore more. Chandresh introduced us to some lovely restaurants, arranged a cookery class when asked and looked after me very well when I was unwell. He as concerned for all of our well-being throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It’s a wonderful trip, be prepared to adapt to Indian ways and customers, tipping can be a bit complicated. Be ready for some long travelling days and lots of curry, there are always regular breaks as well and you eat in some great places.

Really amazing

Great trip, well worth the money. A good mix of walking, snorkeling and animal watching.

Most Inspirational Moment

Really enjoyed snorkeling Kicker rock and the volcano days.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was very informative, very knowledgeable and made sure we were ready for the day ahead. Always took into account the mix of personalities within the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Best to take a long wet suit if you are planning to take your own.

Most Inspirational Moment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good job in all aspects, personal and professional, solving all circumstances of the trip

Whistle stop tour of two very different countries

This tour is far too rushed Billed as an 11 trip it is actually only 9 days, the group flight only arriving in Jordan after midnight Hotel at 3.30 on day 2. Some of our group left Tel Aviv hotel at 03.00 on day 11. We saw some amazing sights but always felt rushed. Internal travel was in mini bus not very good for sight seeing or taking in the sometimes stunning countryside as the view is very restricted. On days travelling between hotels the luggage was crammed in on the rear seats and in the gangway, and some was shipped separately in another vehicle. Fingers crossed it got there. we did go to some amazing places. Petra was magnificent but really needed two whole days. Jerusalem was so interesting but sometimes a bit scary, tension is bubbling near the surface here. Tel Aviv was disappointing for most people in our group as it was the sabbath on the day we arrived and many of the promised sights were closed. We were staying on for a few days so we had the opportunity to see everything and contrast it with Jerusalem.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the high point above the monastery in Petra was an achievement. thank goodness we were able to get a scary horse and cart ride back or we'd probably have got locked in. The trip to Bethlehem was a lights on moment for me. I got a feel for the Palestinian frustration and anger.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Jordanian leader was knowledgeable and did look after us as we expected. He was rather longwinded perhaps from enthusiasm but rather tiring in the hot sun. Too fond of cafe stops, squeezing the time at the sites of interest. The Israeli leader. was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the country and tried to tell us everything Would have been magnificent if I was studying the history of the region at degree level, but too much standing in the hot sun for so long that we had little time to actually see the places of interest. He was however not really a tour leader in the Exodus style. He wasn't there to meet us when we crossed the border turning up 15 minutes later. Didn't take us into check in at the hotel or was at all concerned about the early closing of restaurants and shops, threatened strike and later gun fire and rioting following the death of a young Palestinian on our free day in Jerusalem. Advice on where to eat ect, missing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

In its present form this trip is quite punishing with little down time. The walking can be hard particularly if you are keen to see as much as possible in Petra.

Reply from Exodus

We are grateful to you for taking the time to leave a review and are glad that you enjoyed Petra and Bethlehem. However, we were very sorry to read that you felt the itinerary was rushed, and that you were disappointed with aspects of your tour’s leadership and the suitability of your vehicle. We put a great deal of work and thought into designing our itineraries, however I should mention that this is a new trip to Exodus, and we hope clients will appreciate that with tours such as this there may be some aspects that we look to amend in order to improve the overall experience, based on the feedback we receive. Please be assured that I will certainly bear yours in mind when I look at what aspects of the itinerary could be changed when I review the tour ahead of the next season and will consider potentially increasing the amount of time in Petra, as you have suggested. Regarding your tour leaders, though we were pleased to read your positive comments about the knowledge they shared with you about their respective countries, we were equally disappointed to learn that you felt you spent too much time standing in the sun, as I can appreciate this would have been uncomfortable. Whilst the weather is of course an uncontrollable factor, going forward we have suggested that longer talks are given under shade or on board an air-conditioned vehicle to prevent groups being in direct sunlight for extended periods. We are sorry that you found the vehicle provided in Israel to be too small to comfortably seat all group members and their luggage, as we would always want our customers to have smooth travels in destination. Having seen photos of the vehicle used and taking into account the number of clients in your group, we agree with your assessment, and we have therefore followed up with our local operator to make sure larger vehicles are provided on future trips. We hugely appreciate your feedback, as it has allowed us to look to make changes to this tour and ensure that it is as organised, informative, and enjoyable as our customers expect from Exodus trips, though we remain apologetic that this was not your experience.

Adventure

A wonderful adventure with something new and exciting every day. Costa Rica has wonderful wildlife and stunning scenery and this trip ensured that we experienced it fully. Great organisation, a charming and knowledgeable guide and a caring driver together with excellent accommodation made this an awesome holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the female turtle laying her eggs, covering them and returning slowly to the sea.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent knowledgeable guide with a charming personality.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy every moment and take more money than you think as the alcoholic drinks can be expensive!

What an adventure!

Great trip with so much variety across the 15 days.

Most Inspirational Moment

Completing the Inca trail & walking through the Sun gate to see Machu Pichu for the 1st time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Julio was most excellent. nothing was too much trouble, all details thought of and just a very helpful leader who clearly cared about the team as well as making sure we had the best holiday. 10 out of 10 for his efforts.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prepare a list for the jungle in advance and have it ready in one side of your suitcase. You can hire great quality sleeping bags out there so no need to take your own. They also supply a liner with the hire. Pack thermals to sleep in for the Inca trail.

What a great week!

Everything about this holiday I found very enjoyable. It was October and the holiday season was drawing to a close but the sea was warm and inviting. The cycling was manageable and took us to interesting and historical locations. The week was varied, beginning in the little known Cilento region, which was quiet and pretty, with picturesque stopping off places, including beautiful villages. From the amazing historic town of Paestum we caught a train to Salerno and continued our tour cycling along the dramatic and busy Amalfi coast. Our leader, Paulo and his assistant Emilio did an excellent job and they had their work cut out as there were 17 of us. The day it rained heavily we took a bus and walked around Amalfi and Ravello. The food was really delicious. I even developed a taste for Lemoncello! The hotels were very good, my favourites were the ones with pools. The agritourismo we stayed in was in a lovely location and their meals were delicious. I particularly liked the bruchetta they served for breakfast made with local oil and tomatoes.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our last and longest cycle was from Minori to Sorrento, which was 77km. Dropping down the incline along quiet, windy lane into Sorrento was great after the ride along the coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paolo, our group leader was outstanding. He's well organised and calm. He has excellent communication skills, masses of local knowledge and loads of Italian charm.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of layers as the weather in October can be changeable. I was pleased I took waterproof footwear.

Review of holiday 2-9 October 2022

Our holiday in Evia was a very memorable and enjoyable one, mainly because Evia, an island which I had not even heard of before we booked our holiday, is such a historic and beautiful island. While I have a particular interest in nature and wild flowers in particular, on this holiday it was the history and antiquities of Evia that were the outstanding experience. Our accommodation in a friendly family-run hotel was excellent, and it was a welcome’s bonus to enjoy a quick dip in the sea most days after our walks.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is hard to choose, because there were several places where we were on the site of important events in ancient Greek history, but the most inspirational was being in a chapel, the floor of which was that of an ancient temple where events took place, mentioned in Homer's Iliad, before the Greeks set off across the Aegean Sea and laid siege to Troy.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thanos was very hospitable and welcoming, and is an outstanding tour guide, who opened our eyes to the history of Greece, and particularly of Evia, in an inspirational way. He was also exceptional in ensuring that we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meals, explaining Greek cuisine and advising on choice of dishes and overseeing the process of paying for our meals, I would say going above and beyond the call of duty on these occasions. However I feel that most other Exodus guides that I have encountered were better than him at actually leading walks, he did not seem to mind if our group was spread out across a hillside behind him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go to Evia, you cannot fail to enjoy it! Maybe read up on Greek history before you go, so that you can get even more out of the experience than I did.

Action packed week!

Really busy trip but the pace calms down after Petra! Lots to see and amazing food to try too. Petra is as stunning as everyone says (I’d skip Petra by night, very busy expensive and stinky!) but Jerash is also absolutely beautiful and huge. The Dead Sea is a complete mind boggling experience you just can’t help but float. Lots of optional extras available for this trip – Turkish bath, cookery class, star watching, Petra by night.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most unexpected inspirational moment for me was the Siq Trail. This isn't a walk it's canyoning but really easy canyoning! Definitely need water shoes for this (and for Red and Dead sea too) but you really don't need to take anything else with you apart from a water camera/phone in waterproof case and make sure your glasses if you wear them are attached to your head securely! No sunglasses as you're in the shade. You swim some bits so will want to have your hands free. It's beautiful, definitely do it!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mehkled is amazing. Very funny, patient, organised, knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely go a day earlier if you can so you can rest up before you start (a lot of the London group flights got in at 2/3am and you start at 8.30 am that day!) and explore Amman. Walking shoes are fine for this trip, boots not needed. If you want to do any shopping do it before you get to the Dead Sea as there isn't anything there apart from the hotel.

Fabulous week hiking the TMB

Had a wonderful week hiking the TMB, Egle our guide was fantastic (Lot’s of patience) had the most fantastic group of people to hike with. The TMB itself was just outstanding, the ascents were pretty tough going, you are rewarded with the most stunning views.

Most Inspirational Moment

Just being present in the moment of all the wonderful and stunning views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Egle was just wonderful, lots of patience.
