Stunning countryside and beautiful wildlife

This was an excellent trip and not too hectic with a bit of downtime in some lovely hotels. Group worked well together.

Climbing Sigiriya rock, glamping in Gal Oya, cookery class in Ella. Dambulla cave temples. Boat trip to seen elephants on islands.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Richard was lovely: very kind with lots of thoughtful touches: fresh pineapple and watermelon after long days. A ready supply of toilet paper and hand sanitizer! Temple socks and sarongs provided. Very knowledgeable. about his beautiful country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Socks for temples: it is not like a mosque where you walk on carpet. You walk on gravel, hot rocks, wet paths. Scarf for dusty Yala. The walk with the chief involves wading so consider waterproof shoes. Food: it is very spicey so be careful. The home cooking and restaurants outside hotels were happy to reduce spice but not hotel buffets. Be careful with the rice. Recommend Lords in Negombo and Chill in Ella. Jetwing Lighthouse al la carte excellent

An Unforgettable Adventure Through Sri Lanka!

The itinerary offered a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and comfort. Every day brought something new — from wildlife safaris and scenic nature walks to temple visits and authentic local experiences — all complemented by stays in beautiful premium hotels, which provided the perfect place to relax and recharge.

One of the standout highlights was the food — every meal was bursting with flavour, and the cooking class in Ella was one of my favourite experiences. We made eight delicious curries with a local family — such a fun and memorable way to connect with the culture!

Sri Lanka is an absolute must!

Wild glamping in Gal Oya and everything about Ella — from the cooking class and scenic walk to the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, to the stunning hotel and vibrant town, every moment there was unforgettable!

Mahen was awesome! He was knowledgeable, kind, and had a great sense of humour that brought the group together. He is so passionate about his country and it really added to the trip!

Advice for Potential Travellers

It’s hot! Pack breathable, lightweight clothing and bring a sarong or shawl for temple visits.

Disappointing

As a group we had to force the hand of the local agents by refusing to travel unless we had suitable transport. The bus was not big enough, it did not have overhead racks for rucksacks and hand luggage and the air conditioning failed. We then had an excellent large coach until the clutch kept breaking down on mountain roads (engineers were called out 3 times).
Our itinerary was changed resulting in excessive travel time (Exodus were aware of this months earlier, but the Group Leader was only given 48 hours notice and the group 24 hours notice via a WhatsApp); we fully except that itineraries change but this was not due to exceptional circumstances. The EKHO Ella hotel was substandard and far from ‘Premium’ quality.

This was not a ‘Premium’ tour. We have used Exodus before and they have always been excellent; sadly this was not the case this time. We were not the only disappointed clients.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely sorry that several aspects of your trip to Sri Lanka did not meet expectations.

We conducted a full internal review in response to your concerns, including the itinerary changes, transport issues, and accommodation standards. The itinerary re-shuffle, which led to significantly longer travel times, was not communicated to us in advance by our local partners. This unfortunately meant we were unable to assess the impact or inform the group ahead of time, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption and frustration this caused.

We also regret that the initial transport provided was not suitable for your group size and lacked functioning air-conditioning. While a larger coach was arranged following your feedback, we understand that having to escalate the issue during your holiday was far from ideal.

Regarding the accommodation in Ella, we’re sorry it did not meet the Premium standard we aim to deliver. While the property has previously received positive feedback, we are now closely monitoring future reviews and have contacted the hotel management to ensure improvements are made.

We deeply regret that your experience did not reflect the quality and care we strive to provide. Your feedback is invaluable and has prompted serious internal discussions about our partnerships and processes in Sri Lanka. Thank you again for helping us improve.

Mahen was excellent, carefully navigating a difficult itinerary reorganisation during the first week after travel disruption for 6 of us. Very knowledgeable and ready to share that knowledge, from Sri Lankan history to unusual fruits. Always bright and smiling and with a novel way of attracting our attention. Ding dong!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate to book this trip. Tiring at times with necessary early starts and some long journeys. Just pace yourself with early nights. You will see so much and experience Sri Lankan culture at first hand.

It’s hot, so bring lots of cooler type clothes. If you can’t eat spicy food, there are lots of western choices.

Glamping was definitely the standout experience for us. Early morning bird watching, walk with the local chief, lake sunset, no Wi-Fi, brilliant team and just the best ever.

Hitige was always patient and kind. He was very knowledgeable about so many aspects of Sri Lanka.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We are not beach people so our free day we spent at leisure in Galle . Less than a pound on the bus from outside the hotel. We also preferred eating at the hotel next door at the bay resort rather than the Marriott. We sat next to the ocean and had a great time for both evenings.

Beautiful and busy Sri Lanka

This trip was a good tour of the island with a mix of cultural sites (Sigiriya, temples, Buddhist villages etc) with wildlife sites (some river/lake tours) and two opportunities for safaris in the national park. It was quite busy at times and although we stayed in some amazingly beautiful (and expensive!) hotels we didn’t always get the chance to appreciate them. Lots of big chain hotels which feels a little away from the small group ethos. The Guide was brilliant and the transport excellent – although it was a large coach.

Don't be afraid to opt out of activities and spend some time looking round the area by yourself.

Beautiful Sri Lanka!

What a truly beautiful country, filled with beautiful people. With so much to experience in a relatively short space of time, this is the way to do it. It’s a packed schedule and very ‘full on’ although we did have an air conditioned coach with driver and assistant for the entire trip making all transfers and trips very easy. No stress there. Some days were early starts and occasional late finishes so limited the time spent at the hotels for relaxation, however you can always make the decision to drop out of some activities. I took part in all of the planned activities, opted out of the optional whale watching, resulting in just one full day of very welcome down time at the beach. We were warmly greeted at each hotel, usually with a drink or flower and made to feel welcome.

There are many inspiring moments and if I have to choose it has to be the elephant transit home! Who can not be inspired by the kindness and work done to protect these majestic animals and how gorgeous are they??

Hiti gets top marks from me! He started the holiday with a smile when we met at the airport and that didn't change throughout the whole trip. I believe this was the first time this particular trip had been run so there were a few miscommunications that he dealt with very swiftly. His knowledge of his country is to be commended, he was asked many questions during our two weeks and was easily able to answer them all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would definitely recommend this trip. I went as a solo traveller and had the opportunity to meet a group of like minded people who were generous with their time to ensure I wasn't left to eat alone on the evenings where the meal wasn't provided. I can honestly say I enjoyed the company of all them.
