A fantastic week

We did this trip four years ago and enjoyed it so much decided to book again. Was a little worried it would not be so good second time around, but it was even better! We had a fantastic week with varied and interesting walks in stunning scenery. Magical Narnia like landscapes, mountain peaks with historic interest and the most incredible views. An outstanding leader who made every day interesting and fun and a hotel, with excellent food, service and facilities to relax in after a days snowshoeing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving on the summit of Monte Piana, geographically stunning but with such sad historical links.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara is an outstanding leader. She is knowledgeable, professional and fun and went the extra mile to ensure the group enjoyed the week. Both out on the mountains and around the dinner table, she ensured everyone was having the best possible holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is important to have the right equipment and to layer. You get hot walking up hill, but the summit and down hill walking can be chilly. A swim in the hotel pool and relaxation in the sauna helps the muscles unwind after a days snowshoeing.

Suggestions

It is a great trip which I would highly recommend

Snowshoeing in the Dolomites

A wonderful week in a beautiful and tranquil environment. Each day brought different scenery and walking conditions and each day was excellent. The walking was not too demanding for someone used to day walks being sufficiently tough to feel that the evening meal and a drink had been well earned but not so tough that we were exhausted.

Most Inspirational Moment

Monte Piana and it's place in the history of WW1 was moving as our joy and wonder at the natural beauty of the mountain and scenery was tempered by the thought of the fighting that was taking place there a century ago. Walking through forests following fresh snowfall. The peace of a seldom trodden path and the beauty of fresh snow will live long in my memory.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was outstanding. We felt completely safe in her care and she did so much to ensure that we got the very most out of our trip. Nothing was too much trouble and it felt that we were walking with a friend rather than a group leader. To paraphrase Spinal Tap if normal group leaders go up to 10 then Sara goes all the way up to 11.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it now. The kit list provided is thorough and if you follow it you won't go wrong.

Suggestions

Only thanks to the rest of the group whose good humour and cheer quickly built the camaraderie that made this a truly excellent trip.

An awesome trip

A superb week away, exploring just a bit of what the Dolomites has to offer. Stunning scenery, wonderful walks with views that are breathtaking – we loved it!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many. On top of Monte Piana hearing about the challenges soldiers fighting in WW1 faced, Sara our guide was a huge inspiration - and has made us want to explore & trek even more. Being able to act like kids - racing through untrodden snow, building snow animals, sledging & meeting a great group of like-minded people to share our week with has made this a fantastic trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara is a fantastic guide - and always going above & beyond what she needs to do. Her knowledge of the area, experience & enthusiasm really helped make this trip as excellent as it was.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do the sledging on your free day - it's well worth the nervous energy beforehand!! It's great value for money - 35 euro for 4 hours which included the lift pass (we got 7 runs in that time, and a break for lunch at the top of the slope).

Suggestions

A great trip that will leave many happy memories and a lot of laughter!

Snow shoeing in the Dolomites

This trip gives access to some beautiful areas of the Dolomites with spectacular views and a wide variety of routes depending on the weather and snow conditions. The Hotel Adler and Sara, our guide, worked very hard to ensure our holiday lived up to our expectations.

Most Inspirational Moment

Being the only people on Monte Piano in the fresh snow on a clear day was incredibly moving, having been there in the summer and seen the trenches from WW1.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was tireless in looking after all the needs of the group including organising ice climbing or skiing for small groups on the free day. She was excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The weather is very variable so lots of layers are important. It can be very warm if the sun is shining but the ridges can be windy and cold.

Snowshoeing in the Dolomites

Really good overall experience – depends on the weather which was mostly good

Most Inspirational Moment

Playing around in the soft, virgin snow & views from peaks

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good - competent & good company

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can be very cold, on bad days the snow gets everywhere and you can be out for 5 hours without an opportunity to warm up - the leader advised 'keep your gloves on -don't take them off or your hands get cold' - learn to do everything with your gloves on' - but the advice comes too late if you have n't practiced putting on & adjusting snoeshoes before you arrive or if you wear glasses and have to take them off to clean the snow from them. I would take more than 1 pair of gloves and keeping a light pair on with larger mittens might be best

Suggestions

As above in "It can be very cold...." - I was surprised to find that I could not fit my size 10 winter boots into the snowshoe without forcing hard - the boots were too broard for the fittings - this meant I had to take gloves off to adjust them ++ Hotel good but more like 3* than 4 - food very variable Flight back dreadful - Thomson & Innsbruck airport grossly incompetent - compensation required - I won't use Thomson again - the one person who got home on time flew with BA - why not use them instead of Thomson??

Snowshoeing in the Dolomites

An amazing week in wonderful surroundings, a luxury hotel and everything taken care of. Totally good value for money and life memories every day.

Most Inspirational Moment

The summits were by far the most breaktaking and beautiful but Durrakopf has to beat all the others.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Simon Van Dam was exceptional. He went all out to ensure that everyone had a special week and was kind and funny and integrated in the group. Having been on 6 Exodus trips before, I have to say he was one of the best leaders I have known. He was very capable and looked after all the needs of the group superbly -we didn't have to worry about anything.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you wear lots of layers, take a snood and goggles for snowing days, prepare to be fit for hours (up to 6) of walking uphill and a hip flask or thermos flask is recommended for 'anti-freeze' - snowshoeing is easy and requires no skill but you need to be fit to do the hours in the mountains.

Suggestions

I would love to do this trip again and would highly recommend the family run Adler hotel which provides the base every night for this trip. A Wellness centre and Michelin Star restaurant really is the icing on the cake!

Snowshoeing in the Dolomites

A fun filled trip in a stunning part of Europe with excellent guides who made the most of the limited snow we experienced. Combining scenery, history, sightseeing and relaxing in the wellness centre, it was a lovely Christmas break.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the snow-filled trenches of the First World War, and the War Cemetery at Bruneck/Brunico. All of the stunning views of the Dolomites.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex and Simon were great guides - finding the best of the snow in challenging conditions. They were great fun too, and a were an integral part of the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If it's icy, buy some mini-crampons. They are cheap and invaluable, and useful at home too.

snowshoeing in the Dolomites

This was my first time traxelling with Exodus and I was very impressed by the efficiency of the trip.Despite the lack of snow for snowshoeing we all had a brilliant time walking in the breathtaking scenery. It felt great to reach the summit and see some wonderful views.

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably just some lovely views

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very attentive to everybody's needs

Advice for Potential Travellers

Definitely take lots of layers as it can be really hot one minute and cold the next. Also if lack of snow get grips for the bottom of your walking boots to avoid slipping on the ice !

Suggestions

This did not affect me but the vegetarians on our trip had a very limited menu

SNOWSHOEING IN THE DOLOMITES

Brilliant trip in a beautiful part of the world. Top marks for the catering and staff at Hotel Adler too, very well looked after.

Most Inspirational Moment

Views from the Durrakopf are well worth the effort

Thoughts on Group Leader

Karl is a real gem- constantly cracking jokes, the trip wouldn't be the same without him

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not, on any account, pass up on the opportunity for some kaiserschmarrn.Tyrolean night at the hotel is a lot better than you might expect!

Suggestions

I've heard a rumour that Exodus are considering doing away with the minibus and providing taxis instead. Please don't. The cameraderie of travelling together in the bus is all part of the fun; and it wouldn't be much fun to stand around in the cold waiting for taxis after a long day's trekking.

SNOWSHOEING IN THE DOLOMITES

Great

Go for it
