Excellent Trek - Do it whilst it's quiet (April 2026)
For a new trip, we were really impressed. Excellent organisation and adaptability. A few tweaks from Exodus regarding the itinerary and hotels can make this a best seller. We were only a small group (3 single travellers and us – a mother and daughter), and we had a fantastic time!
Most Inspirational Moment
Walking through the tea plantations and through the cloud jungle of Horton Plains. Apart from the walks around Ella, we saw a handful of walkers the whole trip - giving us a peaceful and special experience. Go now before it becomes more popular.

Mac went the extra mile throughout the trip. He arranged for leech socks to be bought for us (these weren't included on the Exodus packing guide and were needed during our trip). This is not a trip that can be done self-guided, as signage was sporadic and you could easily get lost in the middle of a tea plantation. Our deputy / tracker particularly looked after the back of the group, especially in poor weather (ensuring their safety). He was also a wealth of knowledge about the local flora and fauna. Conversations with Mac were always interesting and illuminating, particularly on the topic of Sri Lankan culture.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Leech socks are a must. Be prepared that there are some challenging walking days; particularly some days of long ascents, and some with back to back stages. One person in our trip added a day in Kandy to the start of the trip, which was a good idea to be able to see the city and it's attractions. We added some extra nights on the coast at the end of the trip (near the airport), which was lovely icing on the cake to relax after the walking.
Porto and Lisbon are fabulous places to discover if you have a few days and love coffee shops. Lots to do there, lots to see,eat and drink. I could happily spend 3 or 4 days in each city. Some of the small fishing ports were fab too. On the whole it was a little too windy cycling along the coast and uphill but i’m glad I did the trip.
Most Inspirational Moment
The magnificent and beautiful Lisbon.

Dinis but the 3 of them were equally good.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Get some cycling done before you go, you need to have plenty of miles in the legs .
My two daughters and I joined the May 9th to 16th, 2026, hiking in Andorra Exodus trip. We were based in Canillo, 20 minutes north of the capital, Andorra la Vella and stayed in the Hotel ‘Roc Meler’. The hotel featured a huge Irish Pub with a bar menu, a pool and spa area, and a dining floor. Large buffet breakfasts plus a bag lunch were included. The hotel is built on a very steep slope so entry was on the top floor with all other floors down. Interestingly the individual room temperature is controlled by the front desk. We found this hotel to be very comfortable and the spa was very rewarding after a days hiking, it cost extra to go to the spa but it was so worth it!
We had 5 days of wonderful hiking. Steep mountains mean, a lot of steep trails. This last winter saw the most snow in 30 years so three of the hikes on the itinerary were not possible. Our guide Alfonso did an excellent job of finding alternate routes. A gentler day was a 13 km walk down a river valley seeing the local houses, farms and an old iron mine on the way. We stopped mid way for coffee, and finished up with beer in Ordino. Every hike offered something different and the scenery was incredible. The high lakes were still frozen. All five hiking days were sunny in the morning with either snow or rain by dinner time after we had finished. We thoroughly enjoyed each day and if our guide didn’t tell us, we wouldn’t have known the itinerary had changed.
Our “day off’ was saved for the last day due to the forecast. We had lunch in Andorra la Vella and spent the afternoon at the spa. The city itself is modern, clean and offers duty free shopping. Even though it is on the pricey side, I highly recommend you try the Caldea spa if you are ever in Andorra. Overall, our week was “moderate” with a few challenging parts because of hiking on snow. Local transportation was by taxi. The pick up and drop off to Barcelona airport worked beautifully. We had a fantastic week and highly recommend booking this trip!
Most Inspirational Moment
The highlight hike of the week was pic de Casamanya (2740 m) which we did on the second day. A light dusting of snow from the previous night added to the beauty of this hike. It was sunny and warm at the top and by turning 360 degrees, you can see all of Andorra! This hike is normally saved as a grand finale of the week.

Our guide Alfonso was very knowledgeable, well organized, patient and responsive to the needs and ability levels of the group. My two daughters are in their early 20’s and absolutely loved this trip. Alfonso was thrilled to have their energy, and made the trip a lot of fun for them. It was a pleasure to spend a week with him.
Advice for Potential Travellers
If you are thinking of booking this trip early in the season like we did, there is the possibility of snow on the ground. Come prepared with layers, rain jackets, a hat, etc. With the variable terrain, we would also highly recommend bringing hiking poles.
This was a fantastic trip, beautiful and varied scenery, great cycling on many off road tracks, lots of opportunities to visit small communities and swim in the sea on the way.
Most Inspirational Moment
Too many to mention! Swimming in the sea during and after cycling days, wine tasting, fields of sunflowers, delicious food and an enthusiastic and very professional guide.

Miguel was the most attentive and interesting leader, extremely helpful when I forgot a passport and nothing was too much trouble. Always took us to fascinating places and booked superb restaurants. Can’t recommend him more highly.
Advice for Potential Travellers
It’s more diverse , interesting and fun than you may think. Would definitely go back.
I did this trip in June of 2024 and it was truly fantastic! We had amazing rides through Catalonia including ancient sites, sparkling coastal views, and breathtaking sunflower fields. The rides were well-paced, with amazing stops for delicious food and dips in the inviting sea. The host was an absolute joy, with his knowledge matched by his passion for the area. I highly recommend this trip!

Tony Sardo, was passionate and tentitive... even with his yorkshire italian accent!!
Advice for Potential Travellers
Good balance and coordination are essential. This route is very different from walking in the Dales—most of the terrain consists of sharp, uneven limestone rock, with exposed edges. There are also some short sections of Grade 1 scrambling.
It’s important to be fit and properly prepared, with suitable hiking boots, poles, and a backpack of at least 22 litres.”
The trip was well organized, the guide was personable and enthusiastic while also considerate of each participants specific needs and the accommodation was lovely. Although the weather didn’t always cooperate on this trip, adjustments were made to mitigate the situation.
Most Inspirational Moment
Cycling and having a lovely picnic lunch in a park as part of the planned activities. An unplanned highlight was the cooking class that was self organized by the ladies in our group when our planned activity ( whale watching) was canceled leaving us with a full day with no alternate plans.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Jorge made each activity fun and was considerate of each participants' comfort and needs. He was always available to provide advice about alternate activities and made connections on our behalf to ensure that the self organized outings met our expectations.
Our guide Jorge Valério provided us with an excellent positive experience despite challenging weather. Hiking, biking, food, entertainment were all top notch. Exodus passionate knowledgeable guides who care that their guests have a great experience. Trip descriptions and itineraries are well matched by the experience and we prefer the international guests we meet to being with other Americans. Trip locations suit our sense of what makes for an interesting travel experience – an active schedule with interesting fun people who are fit and enjoy nature as well as an urban cultural experience.
Most Inspirational Moment
Hiking the trails around the Sete Cidades volcanic complex, hike along the old hydro electric facility past Furnas, both botanical gardens in Ponte Delgado, biking along coast.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Very personable, very knowledgeable on cultural and environmental topics, restaurant recommendations, accessible, checked in with guests, awareness of guest fitness, knew almost everyone in hospitality work on island, lots of fun to be around and chat with. Had options for us when weather cancelled on water activities.
