Walking the Great Wall

My recent trip to walk the Great Wall of China exceeded all of my expectations. The ten day trekking tour was my first experience of travelling with Exodus; I certainly wasn’t disappointed. From start to finish I felt that the trip was extremely well organised, accommodating and flexible. I was impressed by the standard of accommodation throughout the trip and the all inclusive food arrangements were varied and of high quality. Our trip tour guide couldn’t have been more helpful, proving actively available to deal with queries at all times. I also greatly appreciated the wealth of cultural knowledge and geographical information that was conveyed to the group throughout the trip. Overall my experience of travelling with Exodus was cost-effective, informative and extremely enjoyable. I can’t wait to book my next adventure!

Most Inspirational Moment

The opportunity to experience rural China first hand was the most inspirational moment for me. I loved the fact that the trip aimed to avoid the more touristy areas of the Great Wall; seeking to provide an appreciation of 'real China'. The scenery in these more remote areas was breathtaking providing views over untouched landscapes. Having the opportunity to meet and interact with the local residents was a further highlight for me and I loved the fact that Exodus sought to support the local community with regards to accommodation (farmers guesthouses) and choice of restaurants.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was efficient, helpful and extremely informative throughout the ten day tour. From meeting the leader at airport arrivals I felt in good hands. I felt able to ask questions when necessary and any queries were always dealt with quickly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you have a thorough understanding of the trip notes before booking onto a tour. With regards to the trekking trips, a clear appreciation of the trip rating (e.g moderate to challenging) is essential in order to physically prepare.

Essential Peru Tour

Firstly ,i would like to say that Exodus were excellent from the initial booking all the way to the end of the tour. The tour itself, was first rate covering all the essential areas of Southern Peru. The scenery on the tour was exceptional and varied, from desert to the High Andes, which made the early starts and long journeys very enjoyable. Overall, fabulous trip !!

Most Inspirational Moment

The whole tour was inspirational from the start right up to the end, once you visisted one great area, the next one would surpass it. Great sharing the tour with an interesting bunch of people, from around the world. Seeing the scenery & condors at Colca Canyon and naturally Machu P, simply outstanding location and views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The tour leader Cesar, made a great tour an execeptional one. He was very friendly, knowledgable, confident and passionate about his country. Suggesting things such as a tipping kitty and regular drinking water distribution, were just a couple of ideas, that just let you get on and enjoy the trip and not worry about small things during the complete tour. Great Leader !!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Listen to the tour leaders advice on avoiding altitude sickness. Get a supply of small currency, no one has change. If you are undecided about this trip being too full on for you, don't be. Visiting all of the places in Southern Peru on this trip is a must, if you book a trip with say no Colca canyon visit, you will miss out. and regret it

Inca Trail

Travelled with my partner who is a vegetarian. Exodus confirmed the airline were aware for the meals. The airline at check in at Heathrow confirmed vegetarian meals had been booked. Unfortunately nobody told the crew on the plane (Tam airlines) 12 hour flight with no food. They were apologetic and said they would report it to management. The flight from São Paulo to Lima was 5 hours. Once again no vegetarian option. The plane crew were very apologetic and said they would report it to management!!! On the return journey from Lima to Sao Paulo the same again no vegetarian option. However on the main flight back to London order was restored. The cooks on the trek were excellent and provided great and varied food for all Trekkers. The porters were very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. There are no shower facilities until the trek is finished and the toilet is a 20 Litre drum with a toilet seat. On previous treks there has been a proper chemical toilet which hides the waste. Upon getting back to the hotel in Cusco there was no hot water in the hotel which was very disappointing after not being able to shower for Four days. They said there had been a demand by clients on the hot water!!! This is the third trek I have done with the other two being Everest and Kilimanjaro, this trek is up there with both of them in degree of difficulty and reward. I would love to do it again.

Most Inspirational Moment

After a difficult climb to the Sun Gate which over looks Machu Pichu, the first view of the city was breath taking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raul made the trek a very very special and memorable experience. His knowledge of the history, fauna and surroundings was a joy to listen to. His passion for his country and its people came over very strong. A most wonderful guide who really made the trek special. His care and attention to detail was exceptional.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We took a lot of energy bars and chocolate which we did not need as the food provided was more than sufficient.

So much to see

There is definitely no way I could have seen all of the things shown on the Highlights of Morocco tour on my own. The tour covered almost all of the famous landmarks and showcases Morocco’s diversity. That being said, there is a lot of time spent on a bus and some limitations on your everyday freedom to choose activities. I definitely felt safe being part of the exodus group and I thought the accommodations were excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved seeing the Hassan II Mosque. It is beautiful!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was very knowledgeable and helpful. He gave us tips on where to go and what to do during our free time. It isn't easy dealing with a group if 15 adults but he was patient and kind.

Albania

Long a mystery Albania is an undiscovered marvel only a short flight from home. Scenery is stunning and varied with snowcapped panorma’s, ancient towns and unspoilt coast. Cycling on quiet roads is a joy, with a real sense of discovery round every corner.

Most Inspirational Moment

Staying at the trout farm, then riding through lush pastures and mountains on the second days ride

Thoughts on Group Leader

Armand and Junid (brothers) were both extremely capable, organised and friendly. A great team and ambassadors for their country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go soon, it's already showing signs of change

Majorca mountain walks

A scenic, interesting, and authentic walking adventure in the Northern mountainous region of Majorca

Most Inspirational Moment

Our group of sixteen hikers soon bonded, under the skilled supervision of our local tour leader Eduard. We were made to feel like locals at each Travellers Rest, cafe, hotel and Monastery because of the rapport and friendship he had established with the local people.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduard has bags of energy, enthusiasm for his homeland, and a passion for conservation and sustainable tourism. His humour and engaging personality was central to the enjoyment of this trip. His frequent stops enroute to take in points of interest covered stunning vistas, knowledge of flora, fauna, ecology, history, customs etc....and all with the authority of a man who has lived on the island. A proud and very well travelled Majorcan. Eduard is everything a tour guide should be.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel light, immerse yourself into the local mindset. Share your bread, a smile and a complement.

Western Explorer

This was an amazing trip. The scenery was outstanding and became unbelievably more so on each successive day. The unexpected snow both in Yosemite and at Grand Canyon added to our excitement rather than dampen our spirits and although we were disappointed not to fly over the Canyon due to weather conditions, it was still a wonderful holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The fantastic shapes of the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. were so out-of-this-world and Monument Valley brought back lovely memories fo the old Westerns we used to watch as kids.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader did everything to make our trip as good as it was. She was a great driver and organizer as well as being knowledgable about the places we passed through. She was also caring and fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take layers because the weather is unpredictable especially in the mountains, whatever the season.

CYCLING IN SARDINIA .... JUST DO IT!

What an amazing week both on and off the saddle. Spectacular scenery, breathtaking views, beautiful beaches, warm seas, varied rides, great company, good food and drink, all coordinated and managed expertly and professionally by Michele and Giovanni. The support vehicle driving with us was a bonus, the orange bus appearing in view, Giovanni or Michele greeting us with support and a smile, some interesting local knowledge and water and food supplies (or a lift for those who wanted one) was always a reassuring sight.

Most Inspirational Moment

The beaches, the coastal views, satisfaction when finishing the climbs, exhilarating downhill stretches with many switchbacks, the company, the hotels, the pink flamingos, the ferry rides, the table football competition! ... Basically, I just loved the whole trip!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele and Giovanni .... what a perfect team! They work tirelessly (24/7) and seamlessly together, skillfully anticipating the group's needs. Lovely touches such as the fruit breaks at the exact time that you need them, water as you approach the top of a long climb ... Very different personalities, these guys provide a great mix of fun, exuberance, local knowledge, care and support etc.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't miss this trip! Do some hills training before you go or Days 3 and 4 will be quite challenging but the other days are a wonderful mix of undulating mountain roads, providing some exhilarating descents (watch out for the bends!) ... Take insect repellent, the mozzies feasted on us, but only on the first day when we were in the wetlands area.

Mount Toubkal May 2015

One of the best treks I have ever done. Organisation was without fault. Thanks tot he cooks and the boys helping with luggage and an excellent group, it was the most enjoyable experience I have ever had.
Accommodation in Marrakech and Aron was comfortable. I liked the night stay in Aron when we walked down after the summit day. It was peaceful, good showers and dinner under the stars.
I would recommend this trek to those who want a challenge or those who want to use this as a training to tougher treks such as Killimanjaro.

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming down in crampons !! Lot of snow on way up and we all were worried how we are going to walk down. Hassan and Lskar helped us to put on crampons (I had never walked with one on and had never skied) but it was amazing as I followed two of my fellow trekkers and it was easy and fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hassan was fantastic and a perfect Gentleman. I have never met any team leader who had a good control and understanding of every situation and knew when to tell us what and when to leave us alone. Given that all of us were grown up professionals I can only admire how well he did it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a brilliant two and half day trek. Do take a day off in Marrakech as you need time to recover. Layers are important, not so much of a Down jacket but waterproof layer which acts as wind breaker is important as climbing to the summit.

High Sierra

Quite tough and long walks are rewarded by outstanding views over mountains and the coast (and later in the day by excellent regional food and wine).

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching on the last day the summit of Puig Campana, which dominates the surroundings and looks almost impregnable (although it can be ascended without too much scrambling).

Thoughts on Group Leader

José Miguel lives in this area and knows and loves it intimately. You are not just being guided - you are being introduced to a way of life in an arid and potentially hostile environment. He is an expert and inspirational leader and leaves nothing to chance.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A Platypus or Camelbak water system is preferable (as well as maybe a bottle or two of water). Springs are rare once you leave the villages. It is worth exploring the village of Sella (and maybe its handful of bars!) if you can make the time - there are a couple of short walks around the village available on Tripadvisor through which its history and development are illustrated.
