Inca trail experience

The meeting of fellow travelers at the airport took the anxiety out of being a single traveler and being met by Raul the tour leader at our destination ,made for an excellent start to an exceptional holiday . I would recommend this experience to anybody with an ounce of adventure in their soul to grab their walking boots and walk in the footsteps of the ancient Incas, learning about their history as you go from the very informative guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

I never thought i'd ever be able to do a trip like this, so reaching dead womans pass and looking over Machupicchu from the sun gate was truly amazing .Made me cry!!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raul was informative and attentive to the needs of the group. He had a lot of respect for the local people.

Advice for Potential Travellers

.This trip is not for the faint hearted ,its tough ,you feel you have achieved something when you reach dead woman's pass on the second day of the hike and when you reach Machupicchu I personally found it a very emotional experience. Thanks to the porters and guides I got there in one piece!!!

MADAGASCAR DISCOVERER

Although an awful lot of driving — plus two internal flights — it was a “Discoverer” trip and we certainly did see — and do — a lot and, OMG, having been on many trips/tours, Madagascar was more “In the Past” than I have been on before but, while extremely poor, peoples seemed well-fed and were invariably pleasant and always putting forth their best effort to keep things neat and clean (where dirt and dust was everywhere)

Most Inspirational Moment

At age-83, having survived the hike-in, the climbs/etc to the Peaks, the bridge, and back-out at Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Taskmaster who put it all together to do the most, see the most -- often with special events -- in a region where Mora-Mora rules everything and Mel was able to overcome it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

if you wish for unique exposure to nature and people different from almost anything you've ever seen -- DO IT !!

Walking the Picos de Europa

What is it about a range of mountains that is so inspiring? Their nobility, their grandeur, their immutable timelessness? All this and more is to be found in los Picos de Europa.

Most Inspirational Moment

Just sensing my own insignificance in the face of the enormity of those mountains. One gains a whole new perspective on life.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvaro is passionate and knowledgeable about his own region of Spain. Amongst his exceptional qualities as a walking guide is human compassion. My 76 year-old body was not always up to the challenge of those magnificent mountains. Alvaro knew exactly when to give me encouragement to go the extra mile. As a consequence I return home with a sense of accomplishment and very, very happy memories of my week

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for it!

Chianti walking and wine. J Williams.

This is a good week. The programme is good and varied. The accommodation was fine ( apart from the midges)
This is not a good trip for me. It was to,introduce a friend to Exodus. I shall upgrade next time!

Most Inspirational Moment

Nothing specialI

Thoughts on Group Leader

I did walking in Tuscany with Liz 2 summers ago, and was very happy to have her leading this trip. She herself is super fit, very knowlegable about the area, a very capable leader, and a very friendly 'people person' Please will you send her winter walking in Turkey over new year?

Advice for Potential Travellers

Check that you have suitable shoes, a good water dispenser, and waterproofs.

Carpathian Walking and Bears

A lovely relaxing holiday with varied activities; walking, bear watching and sight seeing. Hotel Magura was excellent; spacious rooms with stunning views, great food and an honesty bar.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the bears from the bear hide but also being impressed with Romania; the history, villages, scenery etc etc

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Thomas was very knowledgeable having been brought up in a nearby village. His knowledge of the history and culture was outstanding and he looked after us with great enthusiasm and good humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it now and enjoy the scenery and hospitality of Romania. Don't take too much money as it is only at the end of the week that you need it.

Mt. Blanc Highlights - an excellent trip

The Mt. Blanc Highlights trip is one of the best I´ve done in a long time. The balance of hiking, leisure time, eating the good food after hiking and good rest was just perfect!

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably getting to know what Exodus is about. A company that is no nonsense, provides what it promises and is fully aware of the importance of respecting nature and the local community where it operates.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was very professional in every sense. He really took into consideration the fysical condition of each of the group members without us actually noticing. He was informative but never went over the limit as sometimes happens with guides that need to show off. I would without doubt choose him again if I had the chance.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with EXODUS! I´m telling everybody about the company!

Kerala. Southern india

I was disappointed with a number of things this year. Firstly advice leading up to the trip was often wrong, which caused me some stress. The hotels on the trip seemed more like star hostels, with only one good one on the whole trip. Bathrooms were particularly poor. Often the hotels overlooked building sites. The house boat was even worse looking than all the others moored around it. The bus was old and worn out. There was no microphone for the tour leader to use.All in all compared to the trips I have done before, it seemed that Exodus had cut corners where ever possible to save money. I would rather pay more, and have better accommodation. There was no where to sit and read a book in most of the holteal, and since the rooms were poor, this was very disappointing.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk in the tea plantation , with beautiful views. Watching life go by on the river trip. I loved the bird life. The Indian people are so friendly and welcoming.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I am sorry to say that his heart did not seem to be in it. He sometimes seemed reluctant to answer questions. He spent far too much time on his mobile phone. He did say this was Exodus ringing him, when I mentioned it at the end of the trip. This was a big problem for me , as I go on holiday to escape technology. He did not use the long road trips to give us information about the country,or what would be happening that day. On some occaisons he did go our of his way to be helpful, but he was rather unpredictable in this way.

Reply from Exodus

We were sorry to hear that Karen was disappointed with some of her trip.  Karen’s leader is an experienced Exodus leader and usually receives good feedback; we monitor leader feedback closely via the holiday evaluation form we receive from clients, and we are pleased to see that he has continued to do a good job since this departure. We are surprised to see this feedback about the hotels, all of which are rated 3 or 4-stars (apart from the homestay which does not have a star category). The hotels and houseboat are usually rated as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ on the feedback, including on this departure, but we remain sorry for Karen’s personal disappointment. As this was a much smaller group than usual, a smaller vehicle was used and our local partner has advised that a vehicle of this size is not equipped with a microphone; these are provided in vehicles used by our larger groups.

Treasures of Sicily

This was an excellent trip. It was busy, but not too tiring even though it was very hot.

Most Inspirational Moment

Probably the Greek temple and Roman amphitheatre in Syracuse.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Dani was first class. His knowledge of the geology and history of Sicily as excellent, and his warm and helpful personality contributed hugely to the success of the trip

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not try the coastal walk if you suffer from vertigo.

Croatia: Islands & Mountains

The guide Zeljko was excellent, good knowledge, excellent personality and sense of humour. His recommendation for restaurant in Dubrovnik was one of the best fish meals I have tasted.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to say, the swimming pool! (In joke)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent (see Summary)

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was hot. August trip suited my calendar and not usual for me to travel to Europe at that time so only myself to blame. However, the sea or swimming pool did provide welcome relief at the end of the day.

Tour Du Mont Blanc

This is a fairly strenuous trek through the amazing setting of the Alps, but with a little bit of fitness preparation it’s well within most peoples capability. Our group age ranged from early 50s to 70 and we all finished. Each days walking started at about 08.30 and finished between 16.00-17.00. There was plenty of oportunity to stop and admire the ever changing views and have rest breaks at the mountain refuges where food and drink was always available. At times ascents and descents were quite steep but these were to be expected, ( we were in the Alps after all). As a group we gelled together well which resulted in a couple of apres trek beers each day before dinner. The food and accomodation were first rate, don’t expect to lose any weight on this trek the foods to good and there’s plenty off it. Overall I can’t recommend this trip highly enough if walking is your thing.

Most Inspirational Moment

The ever changing views opening up in front of me were just amazing, resulting in no sooner did I put my camera away than it had to come out again. Also whilst I was there the UTMB was taking place, and to see people running the 170km mountain route I was wakling just left me with a feeling awe (this years winner did it in 22hours, I took 10 days)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Nick was an easy going guide, who set a pace to achieve the each days trek in a realistic time. He was knowledgeable about the area and regularly pointed out and named peaks, plants and local history. I'd be very happy to be led by Nick again on future treks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Being super fit is not necessary but improving fitness prior to doing this trek would just make it easier and more enjoyable With regards to kit, good comfortable shoes/boots are essential, and your knees and ankles will thank you for using walking poles. Drink plenty of water, a hydration bladder in your backpack encourages this.
