Galapagos Wonderland

When this trip was advertised on the site at the end of last summer I booked straight away, something about this magical place appealed to me. Everything you see on the TV is there, it is all around you, from the first steps on the Islands you see Iguanas, Finches, Fly catchers with their brilliant yellows and oranges.
Our first introduction to the Galapagos is a boat trip out to the locally known Kicker rock and our first snorkelling,
our first Turtles, rays and for the lucky few even Shark.Blue footed boobies on the rocks, with Frigate birds filing the skies and Sea lions filling the seas.
It was like everywhere you looked there was more to see and marvel at,birds so close Iguanas round almost every corner.
Then came what we all wanted to see the Galapagos giant tortoises, the breeding programme is well established and it is great to see the work they are doing.
After a few days and a change of Islands we began our trek up the Sierra Negra volcano. The feeling you get from the rim of this enormous crater is one of awe and power. the next thing was to see the steam coming from live vents on the mountain side, imagining what life was like thousands of years ago.We then walked up to the vents and the smell of sulphur was really strong but again the feeling of power was still there.
Onto the rest of the trek with camping on the rim, well looked after by our helpers who with the horses got everything we needed to the rim and cooked us all very good meals, thanks.
This trip is very full on and every day so far we have an early start and either walked or took boats to visit many islands and wildlife areas.
This trip exceeded all of my expectations and with a great leader in Pablo who`s knowledge of the Islands was fantastic, we the group who all got on so well together, cared for each other, they helped make this whole trip the best ever.
Although it did seem a awfully long way back home!!

Most Inspirational Moment

This is easy for me it has to be going up Sierra Negra, a real live volcano, awesom power from the very heart of the earth.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo, the leader for our trip was the best his knowledge of the islands was amazing and with the help of the local guides including Joceleyn (not sure of the spelling there) we could not have been looked after better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prepare to be amazed at the beauty of this amazing place.

Fab Trip -Just Book It!

The trip was recommended to me by previous travel buddies and lived up to all expectations. The scenery is beautiful, the accommodation great and very warm and the equipment provided is superb. Although you try lots of activities there is plenty of time to chill out and you aren’t expected to be up too early so definitely a holiday to recharge the batteries. There is lots of food and always tea, coffee and squash on the table if you are chilling in the lodge.

Most Inspirational Moment

Many! But seeing the Northern Lights appear above the trees as we did the nighttime snowshoe walk in the forest was totally amazing. I also really loved the dog sledding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sonja was brilliant. Very knowledgable, fun and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff at base camp were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is lots to do but also plenty of down time so time to chill. The optional activities are expensive but definitely worth choosing some. I have never been skiing so had a shared ski lesson in Ruka which was definitely worth the money. If you don't want to spend too much there are walks and fat bikes too. Make use of the sauna and hot tub and do roll in the snow after jumping out the sauna it's not that bad. Also pack very light you really don't need much for the evenings.

Taste of Cuba

Hugely enjoyed this tour….. truly was an adventure.
We were introduced to an extraordinary peoples and culture….our guide was exemplary.
I luved every moment and and am extremely keen to return.
‘The Taste of Cuba’ filled every moment with fascination and surprise.
Everywhere very comfortable and safe but with a sense of how challenging it is for the locals…

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to single out one... 'growing insight into the history of past 200years The positivity of the guide..... a 'child' of the post revolution The awesome colonial architecture the enterprise of the peoples...rural and urban snorkelling in the Caribbean The delightful hospitality of the hosts in the casa particulares very little that could be left out!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

A star plus plus plus. She was so informative and prepared.... always positive and enthusiastic. The whole group thought her fabulous. For the whole week she was completely available and responsive to our needs and foibles.. a huge asset to Exodus and excellent Cuban ambassadress. In addition to the program, she researched material for further research into our family history during her free time... superb young woman!

Advice for Potential Travellers

'bother' the team online via web chat......! it allays all doubts and instant access to advice or help.

Discovery Sri Lanka 25/02/2017

Were can I begin as this was the most amazing holiday I have ever had .
From the beginning to the end there was so many great things I did, everyday was so different filled with so many great experiences.
The people are so friendly, with breathtaking views,to the white sandy beaches, even to the hustle and bustle of the city
I would highly recommend this wonderful part of the world as there is something for everyone to enjoy

Most Inspirational Moment

Adams peak was what I wanted to achieve on this holiday, as I knew it would be one of the most beautiful places to see. To reach the top of the mountain and wanting to see what the temple was like when I got there. Eventually three of us made it to the temple at the top,It felt like you could touch heaven as the clouds were just beneath you. Breathe taking views It was the most challenging of all the walks we did but I felt so humble to get to see and be part of the pilgrim The Sri Lankan people with there children, carrying their babies, old and frail achieving to reach the very top to worship, people stopping off along the side of the trail to rest and have tea . Such a honor to be there and get to the top

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujeewa Rathnayaka was a fabulous guide, full of local knowledge going above and beyond his job. He arranged lots if different experiences for us to be part of , giving individuals there dreams come true. When we arrived from the train in Ella, we were greeted by the other members of Sujeewa team with bunches of flowers, that was such a lovely touch. His team of drivers and assistant were more than excellent so friendly they couldn't do enough for us all

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would highly recommend this holiday, as it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. With happy and friendly people along the trip, they were delighted for us to see and be part of the country

Great fun and so beautiful !

really great week with an interesting and varied group of people. The clean air, beautiful fresh snow, pristine scenery, great home made food and the daily exercise made for a really good healthy break from the stresses of work !

Most Inspirational Moment

chillin with the group around an open fire and doing the midnight walk in total darkness through the forest !!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Juuli was absolutely fabulous, patient, informative and always smiling. Nothing was too much trouble and she works incredibly hard for very long hours to make sure everyone is fully looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light ! the lodge and accommodation is really warm and cosy so just t-shirts required ! extra base layers are a good idea as you will need to change after most activities, bring some cosy slippers for the lodge especially the evenings so there no wet boots being walked through and if you like a big mug of branded tea then bring our own cup and bags !!

Fantastic trip to Iceland

We had a fantastic trip to Iceland. A lot was fit into the few days that we were there but the itinerary was just right. There was quite a lot of driving but it was worth it to see all of the sights that we did and our group leader entertained us with tales of Iceland throughout the journey. I am already planning my next trip to Iceland to explore the country further!

Most Inspirational Moment

The glacier hike and the caving were my highlights. I'd also heard mixed reviews about the blue lagoon but I also loved this as it is so unique to Iceland.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Orri was a fantastic leader. Very warm and friendly and kept us entertained throughout. We couldn't fault him and he helped to make it a memorable trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of layers! I'd also recommend spending at least one additional night in Reykjavik. It's a great place to spend time and is small enough to see plenty in one or two days. There isn't much spare time in the itinerary if you don't book additional nights.

Vietnam is Amazing

I had never signed up for a group tour before. I never thought it was “for me.” After this trip to Vietnam, I am rethinking my past judgements. I loved this trip and I really enjoyed the people on the trip. I am definitely going to book another Exodus cycling trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many. The 30km descent was incredible, from the feeling to the scenery. All of the rides were interesting. I had time to see the country from ground level. I remember riding along, thinking, "Hey! I'm in Vietnam, under a blue sky rather than at home shuffling through the snow." The food was amazing, and our hotels were incredible. The people were so friendly.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader really cared about us. I could see how hard he worked and how concerned he was for everyone's safety.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you have any interest in this country, definitely book this trip. It is such a beautiful country and the guides are prepared to guide you to some of the best parts of it.

Walking the Amalfi Coast

A great way to see a beautiful part of the world. Bomerano felt a long way from the tourist trail, but we were within easy distance of Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. The hotel was friendly and comfortable, with great food, and the guides made sure that everyone was looked after.

Most Inspirational Moment

The first walk on Monte Tre Calli had beautiful views on a clear day. Having drinks and laughs outside the Crazy Burger bar later that day. But the best day was Pompei and Vesuvius... magnificent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul is a gentleman and a diligent guide. He was very calm and I always felt that he had things in hand. Serena who was training as a guide on our week was great fun and added to the great atmosphere in the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Use walking poles. Bring a swim suit and follow the lead of of some of our group who swam ( even though it was February!!! ) Pace yourself with the dinners.. they are delicious but risk of overeating. Be prepared for tight calves... all those steps.

Classic Vietnam & Angkor

Varied and well organised. You see, experience and learn a lot.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cruising round Halong Bay, the bike ride through the paddy fields at Hoi An, the Cu Chi tunnels, the boat trips on the Mekong delta, the markets, sunrise at Angkor Wat ...

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khoa in Vietnam was excellent. There were 16 in our group and he managed to look after all of us and cater for the different interests. He was very knowledgeable and honest about life in Vietnam, and also good fun. Minear in Cambodia was also very good. We only had a few days there and he made sure we didn't waste any time. He managed to impart a lot of information as well as personal experiences about the war which were very moving.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Best to have dong in Vietnam (though dollars are also useful). You only need dollars in Cambodia. Easy to change money. You will need an overnight bag for Halong Bay and again at the Mekong delta (suitcases are left behind for these two nights). Best shopping is in Hoi An and Siem Reap. The walk up Marble Mountain is not difficult - steps and shaded paths between temples and shrines. Most of the group got a visa on landing at Siem Reap ($30 dollars and you only need one photo – not two). The various temples at Angkor Wat are sacred so knees must be covered (as well as the top of women’s arms). We were all scrabbling around in our suitcases for something suitable to wear. Enforcement varies but best not to risk it as some of the guards were quite strict. It was cool in Hanoi and Halong Bay (late Feb/early March) but elsewhere was very warm (and humid in Cambodia).

Highlands of sri lanka

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sri Lankan experience and found it to be very good value and well organised. It is such a stunningly beautiful green and lush country and the views often made us gasp with delight!
The locals were very welcoming and kind and friendly.
The trip was very varied and each day was a new and different experience.
Our group was mixed but we got along fine and had some great laughs along the way!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many - for my husband the challenge of Adams Peak was inspirational. Meeting locals and the beautiful landscapes and walking around the tea plantations and visiting the cave temple in Dambulla, visiting Kandy and the temple of the tooth and the historic port of Galle were just amazing for me. In fact every day there was something inspirational!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujee was very well organised, very friendly and professional and very kind and also had a good sense of humour! He was very passionate about his country and keen to impart his knowledge - we learned so much about Sri Lanka which was amazing. His back up team of drivers deserve a mention for their hard work and commitment to delivering a top class service, always with a huge smile!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and open up your heart to Sri Lanka - you will be fully rewarded!

We would like to thank Karin for her review, although we are sincerely sorry to hear that she was disappointed with the cleanliness of the accommodation in Dickoya. It is the first time we can recall receiving this feedback and we have raised Karin’s concerns with the property’s management. We understand that these issues have been addressed and arrangements made to prevent rodents from entering the buildings, which we trust will prevent future clients experiencing similar issues. Whilst we realise that this cannot alter Karin’s experience, we hope it shows we have taken her comments seriously. John Penge – Product Manager
