Excellent tour

Fabulous tour – it covered everythingI wanted to see or do, and much more -it exceeded my expectations. I loved every minute. Everyday was different and a pleasant experience. Great guide, great group, great fun, great tour, not to be missed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the Great Wall of China at Mutiayun! That was an achievement for me - I didn't think that I would manage to climb to the top but I did!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - Kris, our tour guide, is professional, knowledgeable, friendly and caring - exceptional. Kris made the tour fun and a fabulous experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Manage your own expectations and others about limited access and availability of wi fi and ability to contact family and friends easily. Take "roll on" or "liquid" insect repellent and not pressurised or "flammable" ones as these are not allowed in cabin luggage on trains, or aircraft.

Fantastic hiking holiday

We have just returned from a great week in Chamonix. The weather could certainly have been better and the low lying snow meant that a few of our walks did not run as planned. The guide managed to find alternatives which allowed us to see the region, weather permitting. The trip is classed as moderate but some of the days were quite challenging for some of the group. We were lucky to be part of an exceptional group of people which made each day an adventure no matter what the weather threw at us. The highlight of the trip was definitely Chalet Chamonix with Sarah and Rich. The meals were themed for different countries the couple has spent time in. But the cooking was at Haute Cuisine standard. Rich’s afternoon cakes were also fingerlicking good . The buffet from which we made up our packed lunches had a selection of homemade salads as well as meats and bread.Delicious!
The guest lounge and kitchen , with a well stocked honesty bar, turned into the hub where we spent time before and after the evening meal.
The hot tub helped to relieve the sore legs.

Most Inspirational Moment

Eventually seeing Mont Blanc on our 5th day of the holiday.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Shaun was a calm and considerate mountain guide. He made sure that everyone was safe and adjusted the programme according to the weather conditions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are fit enough as some of the ascends are quite challenging especially with altitude.

Chalet Chamonix amazing food and fabulous trip!

Sarah and Richard provide a service in the chalet that is second to none. I have not had food as good as this unless paying premium prices in a very expensive restaurant.
The company on the trip was superb a mix of Brits, Kiwis and Americans. The banter on and off the mountains was top notch.
Shaun our guide was great.
I have been on a few of these trips both working for companies and as a holiday maker. Can fault it and great memories.

Most Inspirational Moment

Food!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very professional and at a perfect level for the group

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on this one and book Chalet Chamonix

Travels in the Baltics

A bit of a whirlwind tour although the three Baltic States relatively small, green and flat. I knew virtually nothing about them before I went but learned a lot out there. In particular their very complicated history – waves of invaders of whom the Soviet Union was the last one. There are ex-KGB premises which are now museums – very sobering to visit especially as people who were tortured there or sent to gulags still have family alive. Very sobering.

The tour was a good mix of cultural and natural sights. So as well as cities and towns there were visits to the coast. Much of the scenery was very attractive with a lot of forested areas
The number of places visited in a day and the amount of information imparted was sometimes a bit excessive. It was hard to absorb it all. There wasn’t much free time in some venues except for Riga.

Most Inspirational Moment

Highlights rather than inspirations: Art Nouveau architecture in Riga 'New Town' - stunning buildings Cold War missile base in Lithuania - recent history, very unusual The Coronian Spit kilometres of white sand and a cormorant colony Tart(Estonai) u and Vilnius(Lithuania) Universities campuses

Thoughts on Group Leader

He (Simonas) was very sociable and approachable. He sang Lithuanian traditional songs on the minibus, in public places. Very unusual and a insight into the musical tradition of the country. Unfortunately there was no group introduction session which might have helped cohesion, as he was unable to arrive until the morning of the first day and we went straight into a tour of Tallinn. He had a slight tendency to shoot off ahead of the group - slower individuals found it hard to keep up sometimes. He should have checked everyone was there when crossing busy roads in cities. Though some of the group often wandered off so hard to keep tabs on them, Local guides were generally excellent though the one in Tallinn was less so. Drivers also good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Maybe go a day early or stay a day later so that you can see a bit more of either Tallinn or Vilnius. Some days were quite long and tiring It was more expensive than I had imagined (but cheaper than the UK) On the whole this is a good introduction to the Baltic States

Highly recommended

Delightful route through some beautiful countryside and staying or passing through towns oozing with italian atmosphere, history and wonderful architecture.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lunch and tour of a winery - just like out of a film set! With the most delicious home-made/home-grown food, and wine, was a definite highlight. That, after swimming in a mountain lake in the early part of the trip. And the icing on the cake was being taken on a tour of Venice by our guide who was able to take us away from the crowds to discover parts of the city only locals would know, including nosing out restaurants where the locals eat!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Michele is hugely experienced in looking after cycling groups. His enthusiasm for his work and love of his country is infectious and makes the whole thing so much fun. There is no substitute for local knowledge... Martino provided very helpful back-up and worked hard to make sure everyone in the group was looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared with an additional picnic for your journey from the airport to the hotel on the first night if you want to avoid having to eat dubious motorway services food. With so much good food available in Italy, it is not the most attractive introduction to the week but probably unavoidable in view of arrival times and the local tradition in that part of the country to eat early.

A wonderfully authentic Bulgarian experience; interesting walks, comfortable accommodation and a lovely group

This trip provides a great introduction to a very special, unspoilt part of Europe which maintains traditional practices in agriculture and food production. Yagodina is a real find and I hope its uniqueness can be retained; the local people were friendly and the Yagodina Family Hotel offers a genuinely homely atmosphere, including comfortable accommodation and plenty of interesting and well presented food. Maria, the proprietor, runs an impressive operation and is always available to ensure that guests’ needs are met.

The walks were well chosen and the week’s itinerary gave an excellent overview of the Rodopi mountains, including insights into the history, culture, flora and fauna of the area.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lunch most days was in beautiful meadows with masses of colourful Spring flowers and great views of the mountains - a real joy! The traditional Bulgarian singing and dancing on our final night was very enjoyable - Maria's mother and her team were an inspiration, and it was nice to see three generations of the family joining in the fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Svetla is excellent, and her passion and affection for the area were infectious. She is very well organised, always cheerful and positive, and has a great sense of humour. Her style in leading the walks was relaxed, whilst highly professional and she always ensured that all members of the group were comfortable with the pace.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you have time, stay an extra night or two in Sofia but make sure you join the group at the airport for the transfer to Yagodina - this can be arranged via the Exodus Office when you book. Sofia is an interesting and historic city, with impressive Roman ruins, a thriving music and cultural scene and some excellent restaurants. It is compact and easy to get round with a modern metro system. There are free city walking tours, which are highly recommended - tips for the local, well-informed, English-speaking guides are optional but well deserved

A thought provoking journey

The trip introduced me to many aspects of the history of Central Asia of which I knew little. It has inspired me to read more on the subject. I was also possible to gain a little appreciation of the culture of the three countries I visited.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was not one single inspirational moment. The combination of places we visited and the information provided by our excellent guides stimulated much food for thought. I find that often inspiration comes after a period of reflection.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both of our guides were excellent. They were both different but equally good at their job. There were no problems when travelling throughout all three countries.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try to find the time to read about the histories of the countries before going.

Great trip but some journeys too long

A good trip covering a vast area gave us a good experience of the country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Each area had something different, ,enjoyed the desert . also the Atlas Mountains, only problem we had was the distances somedays 8 to 10 hours in total travelling ,too much, not only for us but the driver & guide.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a couple of really long days.

Awesome trip

Excellent trip, superb walks, stunning views.
Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming and hotel fun and quirky.

Most Inspirational Moment

Drei Zinnen esoecially the summit with 360 views

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely fabulous, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need a good head for heights. A good level of fitness is required for the last walking day.

Brilliant Trip

This is a lovely well-balanced holiday. Some really good walks but also a free day and a day to visit Pompeii and Vesuvius. Hotel staff made us all welcome and served great food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Great walks with spectacular views. Plenty of opportunities to take photos and just take in the scenery, as well as time to swim in some places. Pompeii was just amazing - so much bigger than I ever thought and you see here a Roman city where people lived, traded, went to the theatre, bought food and drink from the various "bars" around the theatres. Then to finish the day with a walk right around the crater rim of Vesuvius. Wow!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader Suzi was wonderful. She loved what she did and enthused about the people and the countryside we walked through. She clearly had made many friends with the locals who all made us very welcome.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy yourself!
