A Must Do for every keen hiker

This was an excellent trip. The views are stunning and we were fortunate enough to have 9 dry and sunny days. Loved hiking from France to Switzerland to Italy and back to France.

Being able to have a drink and cake at some of the refuges was a real bonus.

There were quite a lot of snowfields to cross but we were very fortunate in that we were able to trek the whole route. Two weeks before and this was not possible.

Most Inspirational Moment

Crossing the border from Switzerland into Italy. The views from the Col Ferret were outstanding. Having lunch on the top, enjoying the sunshine and eating toblerone - bliss.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Frank. He was hugely experienced, having done this some 60 times before. Frank set the pace and it was just right. He never went off at a ridiculous pace and I never felt that my safety was compromised at all. He was really helpful when I struggled to cross one pass with my short legs and had plenty of time to make a track through the snowfields when we had to descend through them.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I was a little concerned with undertaking this trip as I am in my late 50's and the maximum number of days hiking I have done before was 4. We did do quite a bit of training and I would recommend that anyone doing this does try to find some hills before. Having said that, we did not struggle at all. Frank's pace was great. The legs did ache for the first couple of days but after that they were fine. On the last day we did 1670m of ascent and I could have gone on and on! The downhills are definitely harder than the ascents. So pleased we chose the guided tour as it would have been very challenging trying to find some of the routes especially when you're in a storm with limited visibility and being hit with large hail stones.

Great introduction to Croatia

A very well organised trip, the bulk of the cycling distance clocked up early on in the week, the scenery was fabulous as was most of the trip. I’d not been to Croatia before and I’d happily return. Alan our guide had it all very well organised, a perfect approach as you never felt under any time pressure to get a move on or anything else! A good group too all added to make this a superb trip, the only downside was you have to come home when you really fancy staying on a few more days!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick out one in particular but probably the last day of cycling along the pelesjac peninsular coast - you just wanted it to go on and on.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan, one of the best leaders I've experienced (I've been on 10+ Exodus trips and usually had good leaders), there was never any time pressure, everything happened (seemingly to us) as though it was effortless. A perfect balance of information, experience and great people skills. He stood out for all the right reasons.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It will be over before you know it so consider adding time onto the beginning/end of the trip if you can to experience a bit more of Croatia. Expect Dubrovnik to be full of tourists - but enchanting all the same.

Mont Blanc Highlights

A good introduction to walking in the Chamonix region

Most Inspirational Moment

The high walks looking down into the Chamonix valley and the lower level walk in the Aosta valley. wonderful colours with wild flowers.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very safe and looked after the group well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You should have walking experience in mountains and be able to manage fairly steep climbs. Small amounts of via ferrata but always plenty of good chains/ropes to hold on to. Important to have reasonable fitness for the uphill. Some days involve climbs of 1000m. Sturdy walking boots required. Walking poles not essential but may help on the downhill sections.

Alpine adventure with gourmet delights

A wonderful weeks walking in the Swiss Alps, azure lakes nestled amidst towering ice-capped crags and gourmet dining. Even with mixed weather a wonderful getaway.

Most Inspirational Moment

The first glimpse of the sparking cobalt blue Oeschinensee lake in the sunshine, with the toerung cliffs around with waterfalls cascading down. The trains running unfailingly and strictly on time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

This was self-guided.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks on the Headwater trip notes were not necessarily the most inspiring. They suggest Blausee on Day 1. This is a gravel track that farmers use there and back, not challenging, and a waste of a sunny day. Blausee itself was VERY touristy, coaches arrive. Worth seeing the lake and trout farm, but save this one for a rainy day as we did. The Klus Gorge walk can be done as a half day activity by going to the bottom of the Sunnbuel cable car on the 241 bus from Kandersteg (free with the Wanderpass you are issued), cross the bridge, walk up to Waldhaus and back. Don't bother with the other section..again gravel track. This means you can use the voucher for the trip to Selden to do the Kanderfirn glacier walk which is MUCH nicer. Otherwise it is 13CHF each way on the bus to Selden. Other good walks not mentioned are from Oeschinensee to Freundenhutte (other side of the lake from Heuberg). This has an interesting path, crossing several waterfalls (bridges provided) and slabs of rock. We discovered it on the day we were leaving, and only managed half of it, as we had to leg it to Zurich airport. Also another in the Alpbach region up to First was highly rated by someone in our group, though we did not have time to try it. The Sudarampe walk was deemed only OK by those who did it, we did not.

Wonderful trip

Organisation of trip excellent. Stayed in Chalet Chocolat, comfortable, what made our stay was out hosts Zoe and Ben who ran the chalet efficiently and were great fun. The catering was gourmet standard with fabulous cakes every day. Our guide Mark has lived in the area for 10 years, he was a superb guide and had many interesting stories. The terrain was quite tough for us in our 60’s but very enjoyable with world-beating views. We enjoyed sharing the chalet with a good crowd.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent and great fun

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get fit and you'll enjoy it even more

Mont Blanc Highlights- Chalet Chamonix

I wasn’t sure about a holiday in the mountains. I enjoy walking and thought I’d be up for the challenge. I wasn’t disappointed. Most of the week we were in Chamonix we had warm sunshine, which simply made the mountains more spectacular.
Chalet Chamonix was comfortable as a base and the food, including the cakes on our return from walking, little short of amazing. It was interesting to have 2 hosts at the chalet who both looked after us for the week as well as driving us to where we needed to be so that our guide could lead us up the mountain paths.

Most Inspirational Moment

I couldn't point to just one - the views from the highest points of our walks were great - with the exception of the one day when the cloud came down on us. One of the most troubling aspects was to see just how quickly the level of the huge glacier above Chamonix was going down as the ice melted.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was quiet and efficient, always ready with information when asked and engaging with each of the group on the topics that most interested them. The hosts were welcoming and ready to make our stay both comfortable and fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It helps to take seriously the advice to be as fit as you can be and get used to walking both uphill and downhill. Walking poles really do help. If you can print boarding pass and baggage tag for your return through Geneva airport it will make things much quicker and less stressful!

Walking in Sardinia

Another superb Exodus trip. A great way to explore a beautiful country. Sardinia is an idyllic place with amazing beaches & stunning mountain scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were numerous points during the week which proved inspirational. One that stands out however was the walk into the Gorropu Gorge, the deepest natural canyon in Italy - quite breathtaking.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alexis was a superb leader. A proud Frenchman(as I discovered whilst watching his beloved France at the World Cup on TV with him at the hotel one evening!) and a true gentleman. He was full of fascinating facts/stories about the areas we visited and nothing was too much trouble for him. He had a great sense of humour and contributed greatly to my enjoyment of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for high temperatures during the walks, especially in mid-June when we were there. Take plenty of water on all walks. There is also a small amount of rock scrambling involved during some of the walks to be aware of. However, my best advice would be that if you are considering this holiday then go for it - you will not be disappointed!

A brilliant first walking holiday

Enjoyed every day of our first walking holiday, met a lovely group of people, good age range, good mix of couple and single travellers. Scenery was spectacular, hotel due torri was first class – friendly and welcoming as were the locals. The walks were well planned by Paul, our guide which just left us to enjoy the scenery (even the steps). Would recommend the small additional fee for the guide in Pompei and Vesuvius. Exodus have this holiday well planned including amazing drivers of coaches and taxis. This was our first holiday with Exodus and would definitely go with them again.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last walk up Tre Calli had the most amazing views, unspoilt countryside and the feeling of being on top of the world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul our leader was brilliant, friendly, organised and seemed to enjoy sharing the secrets of the Amalfi coast with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do even more practice walks up and down steps than you think necessary.

The Most Awesome Trip

This trip for me was unbelievable and Fascinating and incredibly informative all at the same time

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the top of Dead Woman's Pass on the second day of the trip, the view was incredible you could see for miles. The achievement gives a personal sense of accomplishment unlike I have had before

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was really knowledgeable on a huge variety of topics from the Inca civilisation to all the flora and fauna along our route He was also sympathetic to our requirements being mostly an older group as sometimes it was more strenuous for some than others

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go at your pace and drink lots if water 1.5 litres am and the same amount pm Hydration packs are better than bottles as they are readily available to drink from constantly

Breath takingly beautiful

The Dolomites, are stunning, at every step was a new spectacular view. The walking was challenging and rewarding. Hotel Adler was fabulous the hospitality absolutely splendid.

Most Inspirational Moment

Its difficult to pick a highlight as everyday was fabulous in it's own way.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex is a true professional, lovely person and our thoughts are with him through a very difficult time. Christian from the Adler was wonderful and kept the feeling of group exodus holiday together. The guides that stood in on Alex's behalf all brought something different to the 'table' and the group remained in high spirits.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Always look around you and not just at the steps you are taking. Take only photo's and leave only footprints
