Good trip

Went with my 22 year old son July 18 .. flew via Bogotá to Quito on Avianca ..Long transit at Bogotá Airport, recommend buying transit lounge pass, but staff very unhelpful, and on return trip . Quito high altitude and lovely authentic hotel .. restaurant close by , son ate guinea pig ,, and recommend artisan market for Alpaca poncho and Panama hats .Long boat ride to Napo destination and wonderful accommodation in newest palapa on lake edge with outdoor jacuzzi , deck and hammock, but very little free time to relax ..stinky turkey birds …great character and plumage …Canoe rides fab, but not much wildlife can be seen from canoes because of dense undergrowth . Super watchtower at Napo valley for birdwatching ..no good if you can’t do heights, climbed two other watchtowers for amazing views over canopy to see blue macaws and toucans ..best view from watchtowers with scope provided and set up by Eduardo ..also took pics through scope ..can sway a bit with large group up top ..not for the faint hearted ..also saw cayman and river otters from canoe ..managed to get away from noisy Australians by ducking out of village tour , and instead Eduardo took us for a. Jungle trek and climbed watchtower on our own to see blue macaws ..absolutely fantastic . He also presented us with an enormous male crested owl after a trek ..so exciting …
back to back excursions, got bitten last night as too tired to be vigilant, blessed the fact we had our vaccinations ..lots of monkeys ..very hard to see ..your own bins an absolute must .. one sloth , through scope ..hard to see ….Very remote location ….parrot licks amazing ..back to Quito and then to Galapagos, fortunately for us we were upgraded to Beluga …lovely boat, no time to rest…daily very early starts ..on and off a panga to islands ..all that you could wish for ..2 more owl, barn in lava cave ..short eared owl on open terrain ..swum with sea lions, lots of turtles, son went diving in washing machine ..not good clarity .ha ha …all the boobies you could wish for ..right next to you .. ..albatross ..nesting ..eggs, chicks tropicbirds , yellow warblers ..finch, Galapagos mockinbird .. marine and land iguanas everywhere ..sea lions ..no penguins ….could see golden rays from cliff top ..a lot of walking ..daily ..extreme snorkelling ..very cold water for me …my shortie not thick enough ..even with rash vest ..too exhausted to do one afternoon on lava island ..thought I would rest in cabin, but staff had a noisy get together ..also rough sea on night journeys ..every night ..barely slept ..big day with tortoises ..returned via night in Guayancil ..more alpaca from market ..and then Bogotá to London ..arrived home totally exhausted ..not enough sleep throughout trip ..good food on board ..took my own snorkel and fins .. saw a juvenile hammerhead from panga on last day around mangroves , juvenile sharks .spotted rays and turtles plentiful ..managed to change cabins for final 3 nights …put in tiny cabin .originally …one porthole and not enough daylight ..make sure you get one with at least 2 portholes ..upstairs cabins open on to seating area ..but best with huge windows ..lots of getting on and off pangas and trekking ..would rate level 2 … came home and slept for a week ……camera with bird watching zoom lens essential

Most Inspirational Moment

Mating dance of albatross and the albatross nesting site ..

Amazing Alpine Adventure

This was our first Exodus holiday and it fulfilled all expectations. The walks, led by our guide Mark, were varied and provided us with a fantastic opportunity to sample some of the TMB. He had an abundance of local knowledge and we felt safe in his hands. Some of the days were quite long but the rewards well worth the achy knees! Our stay at Chalet Chamonix was super, Chalet hosts Rich and Sarah were so welcoming and all the food we were provided with was simply amazing. We were lucky to be with a very friendly bunch of fellow trekkers and have many lovely and happy memories from our trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the highest point of some of the treks- a great sense of achievement coupled with stunning views (most days!) We were also recommended to take a trip up the Aguille de Midi on our rest day - this was fabulous- we walked from the Mer de Glace towards the middle station where you can board the cable car to the top - make sure you buy a day pass before you set off if you try this.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very experienced and knowledgeable. Very honest with the group about what was in store each day and obviously passionately enthusiastic about this wonderful environment.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are doing the walk to Lac Blanc on the last day as we did save a little energy for this ! Prior to this holiday we only had walking experience from long weekends in the U.K. and were able to manage all the walks. You will not regret booking this holiday if you enjoy walking!

A wonderful Peruvian adventure

Make no mistake, this is not a holiday as such but a full-on early morning to evening priceless adventure and experience. If you are doing the Inca trail you will probably find yourselves with only a couple of half days spare. Not one moment of this will you ever regret – we can honestly say that it was of the best experiences in 40 plus years of travel.
Every day was well organised and went as smoothly as any holiday as diverse as this one could do.
The hotels were of a good standard, particularly for a third World country.
As far as the Inca trail is concerned, we are in our mid sixties, reasonably fit and had no real problems completing it. The porters are just incredible and ran past us as we laboured up and down hills!
The food on the trek was amazingly good and we all ate well.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to list!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Renaldi Chacca. After all our years of travelling we can honestly say that Rennie, as we called him, was the best we have ever known. This was a sentiment shared by everyone else in our group. His depth of knowledge about the history, culture, politics and all things Peruvian was truly amazing. He was by turns kind, sympathetic, humorous, efficient but firm when the situation required it. We felt that we were saying goodbye to a friend at the end of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

In July it snowed on the Inca Trail so go prepared for all conditions.

Don't waste another moment, book it now

Vietnam was a very pleasant surprise, clean, superb food, great scenery and a fascinating history.
Highlight for me were the Chu Chi tunnels north of Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon to the locals). Not for the feint hearted, claustrophobic or overtly large they gave an opportunity to scurry around underground and marvel at the ingenuity of the local people fighting a far better equipped army.
Vietnam is on the verge of a building boom so I would not delay and book today.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finding out that you could buy french bread baguettes filled with pork, pickles and chilli sauce, delicious.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Lam was more a travel companion and friend. He expertly guided us through each day and like all the Vietnamese we met, nothing was too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is very humid, wear wicking tops that you can rinse out and dry overnight to cut down on packing. Anything else and you will need to use the laundry service at least once. Buy a poncho when you are out there for the sharp downpours.

Amazing - highly recommend!

I would highly recommend this tour of Sri Lanka. It was a fantastic way to see the real Sri Lanka and get to meet the local people and see how they live their lives.

We NEVER went hungry! Excellent quality of food – at the hotel/lunch spots and at each tea stop. I will really miss those lemon puff biscuits 🙂

There was a good level of diversity in the type of cycling we did. A good mix of flat roads (on main roads and dirt roads), plenty of hills (undulating and longer uphill climbs) and a couple of great long downhills back down the side of the mountain.

I was not a distance cyclist before I went on this trip. I had a good base fitness (running/gym) and did about a months worth of training on a mountain bike before I went and I was able for it.

A fantastic tour – do it!

Most Inspirational Moment

It feels fantastic to complete 'The 2000m Climb' - it really is life saving cake!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The guide (suresh) was excellent. There was nothing he wouldn't/couldn't do. His attention to detail was fantastic. He watched everything, so much so that he was sorting issues before we even knew they were issues. He was always around when you needed him and regularly checked in with everyone on the tour to make sure we were OK and having a good time. I also must comment on the support team. Upali (bus driver), Suranga (second guide cycling) and Amitah (van driver) were always ready for us when we got to the bikes each morning. They were always smiling and even filled our water bottles! Nothing was too much trouble for them and, together with Suresh, they made an excellent team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Probably no harm to take a travel sickness tablet before you set out on the safari in Yala. It was a bumpy ride (which added to the experience). Also for women, I recommend wearing a sports bra - again, it was a bumpy ride! :)

Magical Wildlife

This holiday was superb for exploring different landscapes and seeing lots of wildlife. The tour includes a wide variety of places to visit, allowing you to see the shifts in environment and wildlife, which was very interesting, and we were awarded with so many fantastic wildlife spots – both birds and mammals. We stayed in a collection of lovely hotels set in beautiful gardens where you would often have your own cabin and small terrace. Food was tasty and local people were very friendly and accommodating. You will definitely return home with plenty of stories to tell!

Most Inspirational Moment

As someone who enjoys bird watching, I found it exciting to learn about the different species and see them first hand. Seeing 145 new species of birds in two weeks was phenomenal! I was most surprised at how close the wildlife was; with an average pair of binoculars, I had excellent views, although some wildlife - hummingbirds, armadillos, reptiles for example - were all so close that I didn't need them. Seeing such colourful and exotic wildlife was definitely the highlight of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, providing fascinating insights into the country's economy, wildlife, plants and people, all imparted with humour and dry wit. He led the group with such assured ease, that the whole holiday felt effortless. As someone who normally travels independently, it was a real treat to be led by someone who really knew what they were doing. His enthusiasm and knowledge improved the holiday immeasurably.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The temperature fluctuates drastically between the different locations. You will need both warm clothes and waterproofs as well as light summery clothes. Whatever you bring, make sure it is quick-drying, including shoes - the humidity is so high that nothing really dries. Take binoculars too - it will increase your enjoyment of the holiday no end.

Best week of my life

If you are not sure whether to book this or not just do it because it will be incredible! I stayed at Chalet Chocolat – Ben and Zoe were our hosts and their food is absolutely incredible! Jim was our tour leader and he made each hike really special – he told us riddles to make going uphill easier, helped us connect with nature and had a ton of knowledge about the local area. The group was fab – I travelled solo and and everyone got on really well. The chalet is fabulous with a great hot tub, scrumptious post hike cakes and an honesty bar! Just a great trip with a great group! 100% recommend it.

Most Inspirational Moment

-Paragliding -Bonding in the hot tub overlooking the mountains -The sense of accomplishment every summit lunch -Connecting with nature in a way I had never done before

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jim is the best - tons of knowledge, very friendly, great fun to be around, he kept the pace of the group at a comfortable level and just became part of our experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book this now. You won’t regret it.

Fantastic week in Chalet Chamonix

We had a fantastic chalet experience in Chalet Chamonix. Sarah and Rich were brilliant hosts and exceptional chefs. The hikes were very well organised with amazing scenery and the chalet group was really lovely. The food which Sarah and Rich prepared was really exceptional and a highlight of the trip – we looked forward to dinner every evening, it was better than any restaurant could offer in Chamonix! A brilliant week.

Discover Costa Rica

We had am amazing time on this trip from the moment we landed in San Jose. Our guide Andres kept us informed about what to expect, and bring for each activity. He had an amazing knowledge about his country and was passionate that we should like and enjoy our tip. Our Driver Juan was also excellent. He kept the bus spotless and was keen to help.
The accommodation was of a good standard with the last lodge being the icing on the cake.
The plants, animals and scenery were also fantastic. Overall an amazing trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the turtle lay its eggs.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was full of knowledge and prepared us well for what to expect each day. He was polite and quick to resolve any problems that occurred.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We travelled in August . There was a lot of rain. Wellingtons may have been useful. We took sturdy shoes and Walking boots but did not really need the boots.

A Fantastic Experience

Well organised by Exodus. There were no hitches at all and everything was of a great standard.
An excellent way to do something completely different which would otherwise involve a lot of organisation.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at Warmiwanuska (4215m above sea level) on day 2 of our trek - we all arrived together which made it very special; hearing a lone piper in the mist whilst walking Dead Woman’s Pass; the view from the last campsite at 3600m; and of course our first glimpse of Mach Picchu from the Sun Gate.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was exceptional. Always calm, very informative, passionate about his country and culture and great fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is not for the feint-hearted. The terrain can be challenging (especially going downhill) and camping is at times trying - especially in the rain. Be prepared for any weather - even in the “dry” season.
