Fantastic Trip

This was my first time travelling with Exodus, and will definitely travel with them again. It was really nice to stay in one hotel for the week. I loved not having to pack and unpack, and I don’t think we missed anything by not moving to various locations throughout the trip. (If we did, we wouldn’t know it- the trip was everything I expected.) The Dolomites were amazing!! The hikes were challenging, and it was nice to come back to the hotel for a shower and great dinner. Our guide was wonderful. I’ve been on hiking trips for years, and this was the first time I’ve had a guide give short lessons on how to hike over certain terrain.

Most Inspirational Moment

For the free day, 4 of us did a Via Ferrata near Tres Cime. Climbing up the mountains and seeing the views from the top was just breathtaking. I climbed where I never thought I could! Although this wasn't on the itinerary, I'm so glad our guide set this up for us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was fantastic. Very helpful, knowledgeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I was worried the level 3 trip would be too light, but it was perfect. Hike were long with some challenging ascents/descents. I think 5 would have been too much for me. I would recommend the level 3 vs 5 to anyone who is unsure. You won't be disappointed.

Walking in paradise

Two weeks walking in some of the most spectacular scenery of the Alps. Breathtaking views in the many clear days and surreal when walking in the clouds. Varied terrain to entertain all…this is a must for any mountains lover. Excellent arrangements from Exodus as always and great leader and camp manager.

Most Inspirational Moment

About every hour of my walking time every day. The scenery was breathtaking. Cheering UTMB trail runners in Chamonix, swimming in an Alpine lake in a clear sky day, eating lunch by a glacier, the Emerald lake, eating my favourite Swiss chocolate when reaching a col, the outstanding views of mountain peaks above a sea of clouds from Cabane Praflouri, snowball fight in the boulders, introduction to trail running to St Nicklaus, walking in the clouds on the longest suspension bridge in Europe, trek to Zermatt with clouds opening over the Matterhorn.

John and Ags made my holiday!!! Inspirational, brave, kind, funny, passionate, knowledgeable, supportive and a good laugh. I always felt safe and in good hands, the food was absolutely delicious. They tended to all group members and really went the extra mile for me...quite literally 😊. I could have not wished for better leaders

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip requires a good level of fitness and stamina to ensure you can enjoy it with the group. Be warned that you will want to return to the Alps the moment you leave

Our Catalonia adventure

Beautiful and diverse walks through glorious countryside and yomps across some spectacular coastlines, this Catalonian coastal walk was a perfect way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary together. We are newbies to Exodus travel and had been looking for something different and special to do with just to 2 of us. This hit the mark perfectly; the booking staff were so friendly, our tour guides so helpful nothing was too much trouble, even the route guidance was friendly (and top notch in knowing the local areas of interest from prehistoric monoliths to Salvador Dali’s house ) And the hotels we visited were first rate, we feel so lucky as first timers to have landed on such a delightful experience.
My only concern is how I am going to get used to not finishing a walk with a celebratory glass of the local wine with fresh tapas!
The routes were just the right stretch for us between 8 to 10 miles every other day, so that you get to spend a day in your new venue exploring and mixing with the locals. We even ventured into the sea a few times including kayaking in Cadaques. One of the best holidays we’ve had, and hope to repeat in other exciting places.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the surprises! Starting and finishing in spa hotels - excellent idea, food was to die for from rustic to Michelin aspirations, the weather superb, the routes just about right for us keen novices, the staff and venues just top class.

Thoughts on Group Leader

didn't have one, it was self guided and supported by great route notes.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do it!! and do it soon because we are telling everybody about our trip!! Don't over pack, you only stay in one place for 2 nights so can rewear evening clothes.

Review

Very well organised and enjoyable trip taking in some amazing scenery both coastal and inland.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the variety of the cycling, especially the off road bits. Learning about how Sardinia's past was related to the monuments we passed and the food and culture.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lovely, friendly, patient, friendly and jovial hosts who always tried to please everyone, all the time. Great fruit breaks!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some hills were quite long and steep. If you want to enjoy more, consider getting an electric bike! However, the van was available all the time allowing you to hop on and off throughout the day giving a great flexibility.

Come prepared

The walks were more challenging than we anticipated from their description

Most Inspirational Moment

Finishing the walk to Radda which for us at the ages of 72 and 64 was particularly challenging

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark Middleton was an excellent leader and host

Advice for Potential Travellers

For this trip make sure you get plenty of practice in particularly going uphill !!!

Fantastic walking / Trekking holiday

Thanks Exodus to provide such Fantastic experiences in our holidays and this one was very unique all the trails were beautiful with a learning touch of Italian culture ( andiamo/ limoncello/ mozzarella/ preggo) every time we stop for lunch in a local area sometimes in the middle of nowhere but with a good aftertaste . The hotel Due Torri Geovanni and Nicola and the staff were simply Excellent with there hospitality and sense of humor. Plus the hotel location is brilliant in Bomerano a small village in the area of Argerola at a walking distance to a small plaza ( piazza) where you can have a good coffee or local beer . Enjoy it.

Most Inspirational Moment

The day we walked the Tree calli was the beginning of our inspirational journey followed by the outstanding Path of the Gods Trail ( Sentiero degli Dei )that was Incredible in all ways, Stunning views of the coast and mountains .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vania di Paoli , she was excellent on her duties and all the time looking after every one . Great sense of humor very nice person to be around. Not only leading us through the amazing trails but always with excellent advices about the area and what to do during free time . You will be lucky to have her as a leader .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good walking shoes , comfortable clothing for the time of the year , walking poles , hat . And remember this is a WALKING & TREKKING holiday. Enjoy it .

Walking in Provence

Had a wonderful walking trip with local guide Isabelle, who enthusiastically shared her vast local knowledge of the area, villages, and way of life in Provence.
Hiking enjoyable ( rated 2, poles not essential, not exhausting or steep), excellent breakfast at hotel, various group dinners suggested that were delicious, wonderful day off with bus ride to Aux-en-Provence followed by thermal bath spa visit…. I highly recommend this trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Of course the beauty of the area, the variety of hikes, and delicious meals were well appreciated, but the most “ inspiring “ was the generosity of our guide Isabelle, who made the trip so special with her humor, stories, extra local treats during hikes, and genuine concern for the group participants.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Like I said, Isabelle was a gem!

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are a REGULAR walker/ hiker, this trip will be enjoyable, easy paced, not very physically challenging. The walks are paced for enjoyment, stopping to “ smell the lavender “, take in the views.... Good hiking shoes advised. Poles were helpful at some brief downhills, but not essential ( like they were for Corsica rated 3 hike!).

Great Wall of China

First time I have done something like this before but it has been one of the best trips I have done.
Wish I could of been out there longer

Most Inspirational Moment

Descending the heavenly stairway, listening to stairway to heaven on the way down

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jerry was very knowledgeable, funny, fair and a great person in general

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's hotter than you think, make sure you have a semi decent level of fitness (hill walking especially), bring insect repellent and about £200 should cover spending (possibly a bit less).

Challenging walks, beautiful views of Almafi Coast.

The walks are scenic in beautiful Almafi. I reiterate that this is not appropriately rated a 2 and I do not understand why Exodus stubbornly refuses to change the rating. I have done two “6” rated walks with other operators, Kilimanjaro Ronghai route and ABC in Nepal, and while this trip was easier, it was not so much easier to warrant a 2 rating. I was told that the walks are done at a leisurely pace. The first day I was walking at my quick New York pace and managed to keep up with the leader. She asked all walkers to try and stay together, which meant that those going at a leisurely pace had to rush to keep up. I later chose not to do the more challenging sections requiring descending on loose scree because I did not want to hold up the group. Despite our quick pace we only had about a hour of free time at the Almafi Coast and Positano. Our lunches were very quick as well.

Most Inspirational Moment

Ferry pulling up to Capri and going between the rock structures and the boat captain singing "Volare." This was on our free day,

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable about the area. She did a very good job looking after my niece who was 23 and taking her first Exodus trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just keep in mind that this is a challenging trip. Also, on the free day in Capri, ignore the advise of the tour leaders who may try to discourage you from taking the grotto tours. Our leader discouraged me, and I regret it after hearing how much everyone who did it enjoyed it. Capri itself is very commercial and touristy. I would spend more time at Anacapri and doing boat tours at sea level.

Red sand dunes, game drives, new friends

African adventure with something for all family members: climbing the sand dunes in the early hours to sit and watch the sun come up, desert colour palatte, sand-boarding at speed, the contrasts of colonial Swakopmund, township tour and an education in Herero history, game drives in Etosha – hearing jackals howling whilst in your tent at night, sitting through dark hours watching the animals at the water hole, searching for those elusive leopards, closing windows at Waterberg lodge to stop the baboons climbing in and sharing a terrace with the warthogs, watching an orphaned baby oryx being fed from a bottle. And of course Jonas’ famous BBQ dinners – with stories around the fire from Jack afterwards! Hundreds of photos and a travel diary to try and store the memories in a more organised fashion.
Thank you again for a fantastic holiday!

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to choose, but probably sitting atop the sand dunes or star gazing in the desert

Thoughts on Group Leader

Steffan was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the trip - especially the wildlife. But, you had to ask him questions to learn things, rather than him teaching us about Namibia. So, I just asked lots of questions!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

For those with younger children, I'd caution that some of the drives are long, and that it gets very cold in the early mornings both for breakfast and the first few hours on the bus
