Excellent trip!

Great cycling, fab food, wonderful people, stunning scenery! Oh and the best guide ever! Guaranteed!!

Most Inspirational Moment

I suppose like everyone completing the cycle to Newara Eliya! Epic cycle made even more challenging with the torrential rain!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

I have done about 10 Exodus cycling trips and I have to say that Suresh has been the best! His organization skills, attention to detail and great sense of humour meant that we felt totally spoiled and supported on this trip! I certainly would not have completed the climb to Nuwara Eliya without him as he stayed with myself and another person for the last 10 K or so. I had total faith in him to get us there safely! He helped everyone at the end of the trip and I was glad to stay at the hotel in Colombo longer as opposed to spending a whole day at the airport. Thanks for helping me with that Suresh! I must also mention Saranga, Anitha and Upali. I probably saw more of Saranga and he was the back cyclist and I spent a lot of time at the back! His quiet presence was reassuring and he took the bike off me and parked it regularly when I got off. When you saw Upali directing u to the left or right it usually meant that the cycling was finished!! Whew! Anitha was a gentle giant who always filled our water bottles before we even asked! He was so lovely and kind!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Where to start? Eh don’t expect to lose weight! The food was fab! We seemed to be always eating! Train for distance and hills for this trip. I had done some training but could done more. Bring less clothes as you have an opportunity to have washing done.

Great week cycling in Sicily, but very disappointing flights

A great week’s cycling in Sicily in October. Weather and scenery were great (sunny in high 20’s), the group was very entertaining and got on so well that all 16 of us ate together every night, and the tour guides were very helpful, friendly and informative.
The cycling route could have been extended, as there were a couple of very light days, but the only real problem was the group flights (see advice below).

Most Inspirational Moment

Not really any inspirational moments - Sicily was great and the group of 16 got on very well together.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Davide di Mauro was excellent throughout.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book your own flights - Exodus group booking means you can't pre-book seats (or even be sure that you will sit next to your partner / friends), you can't check in online, and you get whatever Exodus can find cheapest. We ended up travelling from Heathrow to Milan to catch a connection to Sicily (and almost missed connection on return flight) when we could have flown direct with BA from Gatwick, and the four of us were scattered all over all four flights. Not an enjoyable way of starting or ending your holiday !

Amazing Expierence

Great trip, good variety while sticking to the Volcano theme, great food. As a new walker I had some concerns about the walking but the pace was well measured and the support and preparation guide excellent.

Most Inspirational Moment

Stromboli summit watching the eruptions was what the rest of the trip seemed to build up to and it didn't disappoint. Coming down from Stromboli was great fun. Vulcano fumaroles is a good runner up!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Genny is a fantastic leader, cheerful and friendly, she set a good walking pace for the terrain that ensured all the group were able to get to the objectives at the right time, such as sunset. She picked out some great food stops, Angelina's on Lipari will live in my memory for a long time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you prepare for the trip you will have a great experience, take layers especially wind proof for the summit sitting! You cant pay for much/anything? with a card so take cash. Don't underestimate the boat rides - take, or buy locally, travel sickness pills if you aren't sure of your "sea legs".

Nile cruise

Great pyramids

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, funny, kind, helpful

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take more money for tips than you think

Peru cycling

Juan Carlos & fellow guides Havier & Diego great – helpful & able.

Cooks were amazing! Tents up each lunch time & 3 courses. Also a portable loo with its own tent!

Most Inspirational Moment

All the Inca ruins leading up to, and including, Machu Picchu. The lunches : )

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group leader was fab. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic imparting it. Great sense of humour - even in a 2nd language! In the latter days would have liked more accurate estimates of time / distances when psyching myself up to the long flat rides. Missed seeing Machu Picchu from opposite mountain - due to change in schedule. I was sorry about this - thought we could have done bus transfer to next hotel the evening of 45km descent to keep us on schedule...

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take polyprops. Buy a plastic emergency poncho.

Saw a Tiger

Great trip for wildlife lovers which gives you the best opportunity to see a Tiger.
Visiting 3 National Parks allows you to see a variety of landscapes, the full range of Indian bird and wildlife.

Most Inspirational Moment

We all saw lots of evidence of Tigers including paw prints and alarm calls, and even caught glimpses of Tigers as they crossed road, or were asleep in the bush. And then finally on game drive number 15, that's over 60 hours on safari, with 5am starts and getting bounced around and covered in dust in the back of a jeep...we had a great clear close sighting of a magnificent Tiger. Fantastic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Krishna was excellent, helpful, informative and with a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We took up the opportunity to do two extra optional game drives. The more time you spend in the parks then the better chance of seeing a Tiger.

Stunning scenery

A great week graded level 4 But I felt more like 4 to 5. The guide Jose was excellent and very professionally handled the helicopter rescue for an injured member of our party who tripped and injured his knee . Excellent dining at our small family run pension- coeliacs well catered for .
Jose made superb varied sandwiches for lunch.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the mountains and general camaraderie

Thoughts on Group Leader

Superb very professional and experienced guide

Advice for Potential Travellers

Need to be fairly fit, able to walk at a reasonable pace to 4000 feet. Previous experience of walking on fells essential This is not for novice walkers .

Do it, and do it with Exodus!

Made memories for life on this trip. Summit day was torture but our guides made getting to Gilmans Point (before getting to Uhuru Peak) an incredible moment. The team of guides and porters are exceptional. This is our second trip with Exodus and will use them again for future ones because we trust their ability to take care of us, from booking to the itinerary and guides

Most Inspirational Moment

Coming up to the last ten minutes before reaching Gilmans Point, we’d been hiking for seven hours in the cold and dark uphill so we’re exhausted. The sun was rising so we had a spectacular view and out of nowhere the guides all start singing. It made reaching that point honestly one of the best experiences of my life!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Makeke was fantastic, he took such good care of each and every one of us

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect summit day to be tough, be prepared to dig deep to get to the top, it’s worth it! Take ear plugs for sleeping! Be prepared to donate some clothes to the porters at the end of the trek. The clothes they wear are all donated.

Fabulous Sri Lanka!

Wonderful journey through the varied landscape of this friendly country- through paddy fields and tea plantations, taking in historic temples and monuments, and pausing at local cafes for delicious local fare. Some epic climbs and descents, on excellent and well maintained bikes, with a fantastic support team and superb tour guide (Suresh).
We felt that the trip gave us a good insight into the culture/scenery/history/flora/fauna of Sri Lanka, the accommodation was generally excellent, and where more basic it was characterful and adequate.
Overall, this trip was an epic, and highly recommend it!

Most Inspirational Moment

The grinding climb up to Nuwara Eliya through a torrential downpour and thunderstorm, with night falling before we reached the summit, then the hair raising descent in the dark, and arriving at the warm haven of the Hill Club. Unforgettable and possibly outrageous, but none of us would have stopped and taken the bus!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh is simply the best tour guide I have ever encountered, period. Commanding yet courteous, informative and inspirational, ensuring that we were all looked after and assisting the group bonding. After the end of the tour, he even helped out one of the group make her boat transfer to the Maldives after an oversight by the agents neglecting to ensure that her ticket had been validated by the resort- above and beyond expectation....

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do ensure good sun protection. Electrolyte tablets for rehydration. We didn't take the usual lycra padded shorts, but used MTB short equivalents with sheep skin saddle savers, and had less problems with butt soreness than most in the group. Make sure that you are hill climbing fit- we had 4 full days of fairly strenuous cycling back to back. Consider taking bike lights- would have been grateful for my "twinklies" on the final ride in the dark to Nuwara Eliya.
