A very enjoyable week’s walking and sight-seeing. Just what I was looking for for a easy, hassle-free trip.
I'd always wanted to see Vesuvius up close and to visit Herculaneum (I've been to Pompeii before but I was happy to go again).
Liz was excellent. Helpful, friendly and inspiring confidence. Also, she struck the right balance between keeping us organised and not being too fussy or controlling. Full marks.
Steps! The walks on this holiday do involve a lot of steps so be warned if that presents you with any difficultires (knees, etc.) Trekking poles can take some of the pressure off but you won't enjoy the walks if you struggle with the prospect of many hundreds of steps up and/or down on a walk. Don't go expecting to lose weight from the walking as the food is very good and there's plenty of it.
I loved every minute, as a non walker, found some of the uphill walks tough, but was so pleased that I actually completed them, the views were well worth it.
Actually completeing the walks with the terraine.
Group leader was excellent, she was friendly, considerate, knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed her job.
Don't miss out on this trip.
A thoroughly enjoyable week in fantastic surroundings. Plenty of picture postcard views on the varied walks. The weather was great all week and even when one walk started with low cloud drifting through the trees it soon cleared to reveal the views.I went on my own and the group were a great bunch to spend the week with.Very nice family run hotel serving some top food. Overall a great mix of walks and sightseeing
For me it was visiting Pompeii & Herculaneum with walking round the rim of Versuvius a close second.
Albert did a great job of making sure everyone got the most out of the week. Even though a couple of the trips had to be swapped to different days it actually worked out really well.
Be ready for sore calves after all the steps down to Amalfi and Positano :)
A fantastic walking holiday in a beautiful part of Italy with an amazing guide, Liz and great company.
Loved all the walks especially the Walk of the Gods and our trip to Ravello on our free day. Lovely gardens and the lunch was so good at Villa Maria. Hotel staff at 2 Torri so helpful and friendly.
Liz, our group leader was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly making the holiday a great experience.
Be prepared for a few hills, but the views are worth the effort.
An enjoyable trip with a good mix of walking and sightseeing. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, and feed you well!
The unexpected fun of walking/sliding down the scree slopes of Mount Vesuvius - a great adventure.
Albert looked after the group well and knew the walks. He was well connected with local people despite not speaking much Italian.
If going in spring or autumn, come prepared for all weathers. On our trip they aranged from pretty cold on the first day to getting really hot on the final day (I was caught out because I'd brought too wintry clothes).Personally I don't think that walking poles are necessary, but they have space ones at the hotel if you need them.
A very friendly and pleasant hotel in lovely countryside, although we didn’t see so much of thatt as we would have liked due to low clouds and almost continuous torrential rain (as much a surprise to the natives as to us Brits!). What was impressive was that despite the real challenges produced by the weather our guide Albert re-shuffled the logistics endlessly so we did actually get some decent walks done, did some excellent sightseeing, and had a lot of fun.
Seeing some blue sky!!
Calm, creative and resilient in the face of almost impossible weather conditions.
Always take an umbrella and some simple water proofs.
Well organised, great company, stunning views, lovely hotel and delicious food.
Walking around Pompeii and then up Vesuvius.Ravello and the Villa Cimbrone.
Albert is an excellent leader. Very organised, calm, knowledgable and encouraging. Thanks to his contacts we were treated to warm welcomes and great hospitality everywhere we stopped.
Climbing poles would be useful as there are an awful lot of steps and some uneven paths.
A brilliant mix of walking and culture. The walks were exciting but relatively easy with lots of interest and fantastic scenery to see. We had a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide to show us around both Pompei and Herculaneum. We climbed to the summit of Vesuvius and looked into the crater.
From a cultural point of view visiting Herculaneum was fantastically interesting for me. The "Walk of the Gods" down to Positano and swimming at the bottom was also thrilling.
Our group was lucky in that we had a truly exellent leader. I have been on many trips and he was one of the best I have encountered
Read up about Pompei and Herculaneum and Vesuvius beforehand (Wikipedia is a good start).
A very enjoyable week despite the unseasonal and prolonged pluvial extravaganza (it rained alot for late April!). Very good hotel with excellent and plentiful meals. Great scenery (when the clouds lifted) and some iconic sites visited: Pompei, Ercolano & Vesuvio. Splendid bunch of positive uncomplaining fellow companions.
When it became clear we were having a great time regardless of the weather.
Albert is a superb group leader. He optimised our available options.
I recommend walking boots and packing some waterproofs.
