CYCLING CUBA

A great introduction to Cuba, away from the beach resorts. The cycling is easy and the general arrangements were very good. Good hire bikes. On the down side the Havana hotel (Occidental Miramar) is truelly awful and should be replaced with something much smaller and much more central. The group size of 16 is too large, suggest limit to say 8 people (I realise this could increase costs but the benefits would be well worth it.)

Visiting the smaller town en-route. These are a real joy with something of the way of cuban life accessible.Some great music and dancing that was not just a show for the tourists.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good (refering to Hose, the local leader who accommpanied the trip throughout). Clearly passionate about Cuba and really knew his facts. Very jovial and enjoyable company. He did show a few signs of fatique and maybe he is being overworked with so many back-to-back trips. This will inevitably reflect upon performance in due course.No idea of the purpose of the Havana tour rep. Lucy. Whilst pleasant enough she was not at all necessary as far as I could see.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Find your own resturants/bars/music etc. rather than just follow the leader or the whole group. There are very many to choose from, Cuba is easy to get around and safe, so just go for it.Carry some loo roll. Many toilets dont have any.Be prepared for a few failures eg power, menu options etc. Nothing serious however.Learn some basics of Spanish and Salsa dancing if you need to.They use a lot of rum in the cocktails so beware.

CYCLING CUBA

If you think you might enjoy this trip – you will. Cuba, cycling, cocktails, Che, camaraderie. If possible, go before the Castro brothers are out of the picture.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to pick one, but maybe it was the arrival en masse at the beautifully located hotel that awaited us at the end of the last day's cycling with everyone in the highest of spirits.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ramon worked ceaselessly on our behalf. Jose-Luis was a permanent ray of sunshine. Tomas was totally reliable and a very careful driver. The crew are an integral and very important part of the whole experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and enjoy it.

FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

A great trip with varied activities each day and the opportunity to use the equipment in the spare time, meant no time for boredom. This along with the fresh air and great, constantly changing scenery, due to the weather, led to total enjoyment

Most Inspirational Moment

Without doubt the best moment for me was the Husky sledging, lovely sunny day, great scenery and dogs who looked like they were having a great time.

Martti was keen and always helpful and always had plenty of willing and able colleagues to assist when required

Advice for Potential Travellers

They really do supply all the winter clothes you require, a change for a relaxing evening is all you need to take. Always able to slip the winter gear over this if the Northern lights make their appearance

CYCLING CUBA

I’m not a keen cyclist but thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience . the only way to see the real Cuba . It would have been better if they’d cut out some of the boring long flat straight days against wind & done more in the central & east Cuba which is far prettier & interesting . More east to west would have avoided the prevailing [ & strong ] winds too .

Cycling in the Sierra Maestra [ day 9 ] . Quoted by exodus as being the toughest day but no worse than some of the others & far more enjoyable due to scenery & hills .

Ramon was excellent in every way . i've been on a few exodus trips now & he was up there with the best .

Advice for Potential Travellers

I'm not an enthusiastic cyclist so found 65km against the wind & in 32c tough going but don't feel bad about jumping in the bus for the last few klms !

MARRAKECH & THE SAHARA

A great introduction to Morocco with a fantastic group of fellow travellers!

Most Inspirational Moment

I appreciated the contrasting landscapes -- rocky, desolate desert --> stunning mountains --> the buzz of Marrakech's medina.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mohammed found a good balance of guiding and letting us take things in on our own.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prepare for some long days of driving, especially in the beginning. The upside is that you'll gain an appreciation for desert life.The desert camp and mountain gite were more luxurious that we anticipated. My husband and I were almost disappointed to find ourselves in a private room with access to Western-style toilets!When you arrive in Marrakech, hop a taxi and have dinner in the Medina. We ate near our hotel which I regretted after visiting the Medina the following night - the buzz is amazing! And try a hammam!

MARRAKECH & THE SAHARA

I had a fantastic holiday. The programme of events were tremedously varied allowing you to get a good insight into the country. The tour guide and group of travellers were also excellent

The guide was vey informative and an excellent guide. The trip notes were also very imformative and help prepare you for the trip

Advice for Potential Travellers

The holiday really gives you an experience of some of the key highlights of morrocco. Some days are long and the coach transfer are long on occasions. However you get a great experience of the culture food and people of morrocco. The sahara experience was excellent however the overnight accomodation was slightly more sophisicated than maybe published. I would really reccommend this holiday

PETRA & WADI RUM BY BIKE

One of the best trips I’ve done. Jordans a great country to visit – lots to see, the people are welcoming, and yes it is safe! You don’t need to be super fit and the cycling is well organised with high levels of support

I had a great time in Aqaba. Its a great place to people watch and gave me the only real opportunity to meet the locals - don't forget to visit the mosque - they are so welcoming there!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Zohair was a great leader, who could think on his feet and make adjustments to the programme where necessary. He kept us well entertained during the longer bus rides and arranged fantastic lunches and snacks for us on the road

Advice for Potential Travellers

Buy a cheap gel seat cover before you go - my saddle appeared to be covered in petrol - but I didnt realise until I'd ruined a pair of shorts!If you're a vegetarian, don't rely on exodus to book your in-flight meal!Don't pack too much! There's plenty of time to do laundry in Petra, if needed

SIERRA DE AITANA TREK

A fantastic week of trekking. Extremely well organised, a great group and fabulous views and scenary. The weather was perfect too.

Climbing to the top of each of the peaks. I never thought we would get there but seemed to do each of them with ease!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose was an outstanding leader. He was passionate about the area and shared this passion with us. One of my lasting memories will be of him walking with his secateurs ensuring the route was well maintained! His lunches were superb and his knowledge of the area, the fauna and flora and trekking was excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't expct to lose weight. We seemed to eat excellent food all day long!

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A busy week’s sightseeing, taking in all the highlights of Jordan. A full itinerary, but still plenty oftime for people wanting to chill out as well as taking in all the sights.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspiration moment was seeing just how huge the Petra sight was, we think of it as just the Treasury, it is so much more had to be seen to be believed. The Dead Sea, the Red Sea, Crusader Forts, camels and donkey rides. Just so much it was an incredible adventure.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khalid was informative, interesting, and hilarious in equal measure. He created quite a splash with the locals wherever we went, being personally known to almost everyone everywhere we stopped - including the boat crew. What they don't tell you in the brochure is that every tour involving American, English or Aussie tourists must - by order of the Jordanian government - be accompanied by a tourist policeman. Our policeman was a lovely guy who joined in with the tour when we got the the bedoun camp dancing around the fire with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it, you will never regret it.

MARRAKECH & THE SAHARA

A really great overview of Morocco – lovely to include the desert, the mountains and Marrakech. Lots of travelling, but plenty to see along the way.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the sun do down over the Sahara after a camel-trek to the campsite was special, as was sitting round the campfire later on. Exploring the kasbah at Ait Ben Haddou before the big groups of tourists arrived was lovely, really quiet and peaceful, and the bustle of Marrakech was a real contrast!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mohammed was great, very friendly, lots of useful knowledge and good advice on how to get the best from the various places we visited. One bad restaurant choice on our first night in Marrakech, but a great recommendation for our last night made up for it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for some long-ish mini-bus journeys, but the bus was comfy and spacious, and it gave plenty of opportunity for general chat amongst the group. Food was generally great and plentiful - it sometimes felt like more of an eating holiday!!As I've found with trip notes for other Exodus trips, the amount of money they recommend you take is nowhere near adequate, unless you were only to have the most basic meals and spend nothing on extras (and by extras, I mean as basic as fizzy drinks). There are lots of AGMs along the way though, so it's easy to get more currency while you're there.On the flip-side, the accomodation was generally better than the trip notes suggested, particularly in the Sahara campsite (flushing loos!) and the mountain gite. Yes it can be quite basic, but very comfortable.1 day in Marrakech is really no way enough, but it will whet your appetite to go back for a long weekend under your own steam!
