UZBEKISTAN UNCOVERED

Uzbekistan was a total visual feast. Each city we visited was just as amazing as the one before. And the people were really friendly. It was a relatively easy place to be. I would recommend it for a holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the sun going down over Khiva. The buttery light with the warm stone and the turquoises and cobalts was stunning. Also, the hamman in Bokhara was great. A sixteenth century interior and a covering of ginger and honey after the massage - a total sensory overload!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nazim really knew his history and he had a sense of humour. If you have other interests, ask for his input. He didn't help much on traditional textiles, but he pointed me at a few shops.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You can expect a bad tum at some point, but I don't think anyone was severely incapacitated. In the desert in Sept it didn't get as cold as we had been told, about 10 degrees C, so no need for a panic to take thermal underwear, and I feel the cold. You need small denomination dollars as well as the big guys. Apart from for food, dollars were pretty much universal, I was surprised. People also quoted prices in Euros very often. When you get your currency, it will be like a brick. At least it felt like a pretty safe country to be carrying cash around, I thought.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

Perfect delivery of a fantastic trip. Exodus’ brochure was accurate and the service provided by themselves and the African Walking Company in Tanzania was superb.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sense of personal achievement of reaching the roof of Africa and the awe that Uhuru Peak at  the top of Kilimanjaro inspires cannot be underestimated but I was also struck by the welcome given to us by the dignified people of Tanzania.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Meke was fun, knowedgeable and inspirational. He was in charge of a good gang who looked after us very well. He made all of us confident that we would reach the top and have fun doing so.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You will not go hungry or thirsty! Chef manages to prepare three 3 course meals a day and our team were never able to finish the food. You will get dirty! Dust and ash get everywhere and washing facilities are limited to a small bowl of water. Do take extra walking socks because the volcanic dust and ash turn sweaty socks into sandpaper. Do take all the kit list as advised. We experienced an amazing range of temperatures from hot to very cold.Cold kills rechargeable batteries. See if yours work after freezing them at home.

BHUTAN: LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGON

a fantastic trip to one of the most remote countries in the world

Most Inspirational Moment

trekking in complete solitude.  Unlike other countries & treks, we barely came across any other travellers.  The trek is completely unspoilt and the scenery is stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Passanz & Dorji, our group leaders, were fantastic.  Very knowledgable, great communicators and they kept us all motivated during the trek

Advice for Potential Travellers

Evenings/nights during the trek can be very cold and damp - make sure you bring a down jacket and a very good sleeping bag.

CYCLING IN GREECE

We found this trip very challenging in places, the places we visted made it well worth the effort.

Most Inspirational Moment

The general scenenary was varied and spectacular, Amphitheatre at Epidaurus, Arcopolis have to be seen, the Corinthian Canal was exceptional we saw boats pass through and rode over it. Athens by night was a must do.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Group Leader and Assistant were exceptional there was nothing that was to much trouble for them, as this was the first time this trip had run things had to be changed on the hoof, they coped with everything thrown at them compentently and most important with humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are assents.

INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

It was a fantastic holiday, the guides were excellent, and the holiday was organized  very well.It was just a excellent experience from start to finish.

Most Inspirational Moment

I thought the trek was going to be the best but it was the whole experience, not one thing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I have nothing but praise for him, he did a first class job.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get 97% det in the mosquito repellent.

IMPERIAL CHINA & YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE

I cannot believe how much i saw of China and the culture in 3 weeks, amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Great Wall was amazing and travelling 4 hours to see it in a place where there were not so many tourists (hardly saw another tourist at all)  was more than worth the time it took to get there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I cannot say enough good about her, she was brilliant.  She was informative about the culture and people of China, if we needed anything she helped us get it.  She was fun, friendly, interesting and a genunely nice person to be with.  She made sure we were booked into sleeper berths together and any issues we had she resolved, not that i can remember there being many. We were called Emma's family and she certainly made us feel like a family.  I needed help with 2 personal things (one of which was getting a set of false nails fitted the day before i came home, vain i know) she helped me find a beautician who could do it for me, expained my needs and waited for me whilst they were done, really girlie time, great.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need a sleeping bag liner for the 3rd overnight sleeper train, i would take a mosquito thingymagig for the hotel rooms but i would not bother with a mosquito net.  I packed far too much - for the time of the year I went Sept/Oct some shorts and strappy t-shirts were all that were needed for the days, we did not really dress up at night, so jeans, light weight trousers etc., but i would say no high heels (streets are a bit uneven).  A fleece and lightweight waterproof jacket is also must.  Lemsip as well, lots of our group caught colds. A kindle to pass the time on some of the journeys between sites is also something i used a lot.  A packet of baby wipes, squat toilets take some getting used to especially on a moving train.

TRAILS OF VIETNAM

A really enjoyable trip. Fascinating cultural experiences in the tribes, spectacular and relaxing Halong Bay, the madness of Hanoi, and the sights of the rest of Vietnam. A couple of days of trekking, but more walking after that. Still tiring due to the heat/humidity, early starts and some long bus rides. Well worth the experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hiking through the hills out from Mai Chau was great even though it was incredibly hot. Very interesting visiting the tribes and hearing their stories. Also the boat trip in Halong Bay - the seafood dinner, the kayaking, the swimming, the relaxing on the ship's deck, the scenery. Awesome. Cu Chi tunnels. Really interesting while also a little freaky experience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Linh was great. Organised us really well, and looked after us well with pointing out good restaurants etc when going to be on our own, and taking us to really good restaurants when with him. We ate REALLY well! Was really informative, explained a lot about how the hill tribe people live and their past etc. Ended up telling the same things a couple of times, and sometimes would go off on a tangent, turning a piece on the pagoda etc we were at into a long winded story of his childhood. But mostly told good stuff. Is a little quirky, which made it entertaining with some of his songs. Has a lot of character, which has left us with a great memories to retell amongst group members. Overall, Linh was really great value.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a light weight jacket with you in case it rains at any moment (even though it'll likely only be brief). Say so at the beginning if you don't like fish (or anything for that matter), you'll get well catered for with other food for you. A few people on our trip didn't say so until halfway through, after a number of entrees and meals with fish, so didn't eat as much those times.

CYCLE THE BACKROADS OF SRI LANKA

This is an outstanding trip – from the quality of the hotels, variety of the experience, and country you are travelling through I simply cant recommend it highly enough.

Most Inspirational Moment

For me the best moments came after the longest days in the saddle. I loved the feeling of achievement after a long hill climb. The down hill runs afterwards were great fun too!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was an absolute star. Knowledgeable, approachable, and a can do attitude were everything your could have wanted or expected from someone leading the tour. I'd add that the conduc of the three support staff who were on the trip we similarly noteworthy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It sounds an obvious thing to say but this is a trip for people who have  good fitness. If you dont, you wont enjoy it.
