The temple complex at Angkor Wat is undeniably one of the world’s most spectacular archaeological sites and a photographer’s paradise. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features over 100 stone temples built by the Khmer kings at various times during a 400-year period. One of the most impressive buildings is the Bayon at the centre of Angkor Thom. This impressive temple features 54 intricately carved Gothic towers complete with enormous carved smiling faces.
Much of the Angkor site has been restored, but the Ta Prohm temple has deliberately been left with its jungle covering; you get a real sense of what the French explorers would have seen when they rediscovered the site in the 1870s. This truly remarkable place is definitely one for the bucket list. On an Exodus holiday, Angkor Wat tours can be added to your trip if a visit isn’t part of the itinerary already.
