This winter activity is simple to learn and takes just a few days to master. Our cross country skiing holidays for beginners combine intensive instruction and gentle touring with a professional instructor, giving you tips as you ski. As a beginner you can expect to fall over when you first start – you can’t learn cross-country skiing without a few bumps and bruises to begin with! While fitness is important for your enjoyment, balance and co-ordination is probably more crucial for easy progression during a beginner’s week.
Whether you want to explore the snowy Finnish wilderness or the imposing peaks of the Dolomites, our cross country ski holidays are designed for you to discover some of the most incredible trails wrapped inside winter wonderlands. As you glide through beautiful alpine scenery, inhale stunning views of the surrounding mountains, or stop off at a mountain lodge for a coffee. You’ll find the apres-ski culture just as exciting as the skiing and it’s a great way to socialise with like-minded travellers on our cross country skiing holidays for singles.
Cross-country skiing grades
If you are a beginner, make sure you choose a week marked as Grade 1 (Beginners) or Grade 2 (Intermediates and confident beginners). For a full explanation of our cross-country grading system, please click here.
Skis and equipment
Cross-country skis are thinner, longer and lighter than downhill skis and don’t have a metal edge, and lightweight boots are attached to the ski only at the toe. There is no need to buy special clothing for cross-country skiing holidays as mountain-walking gear adapts well to the activity, as does jogging and fitness clothing. We suggest you use a small light backpack, or even better a bum-bag to carry a few essentials during the day.
