Walking in the Alpujarra

An amazing week of walks and Alpujarran culture.  As a non hill walker I was a little nervous about my ability to complete the many ascents involved in the guided walks but the pace was set by the group with plenty of capacity for those of us who live far from the hills! The scenery was continuously breathtaking with a new landscape around every corner.  The Hotel Los Berchules is by far the most friendly and hospitable I have stayed in with a real feeling of being at home.  The best packed lunches I have ever been given and the evening meal was always tasty and nutritious.

Most Inspirational Moment

The added bonus of a trip to Granada and particularly The Alhambra was more than I had hoped for.

Thoughts on Group Leader

George is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about his home.  He was constantly friendly, helpful and a reassuring presence.  He has a great relationship with the hotel which gave a warm feeling of continuity.  His knowledge of Granada and assistance with finding our way around was also great as it meant we could see the City in the short space of time we had.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Check the local weather forecast before you go.  It would be helpful to have done some hill walking beforehand and be used to walking on rough terrain.

Vietnam - Mot Hi Bai Yo!

We thoroughly enjoyed the cycling trip to Vietnam. The cycling itself was hard and a little too fast at times. The bus came in handy on a couple of occasions! The hotels were better than expected. The food was sensational (I just bought a Vietnamese cookbook!). The trip combined a huge amount into two weeks – beaches, cities, mountains, countryside, urban chaos….!

Most Inspirational Moment

The single best moment of the tour for me was cycling through the back streets of Hue. The scenery was amazing, the streets were narrow, we passed rice paddy fields, buffalo and local people going about their daily lives with smiles on their faces. I couldn't help but smile as we cycled along.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Long was brilliant! He smiled continuously throughout the two weeks and worked incredibly hard from dawn till dusk every day to make out trip memorable. He brought a huge amount of the history, culture and style of Vietnam forward which would otherwise have been missed. His sense of humour was great and he always had a joke to lift us when we were tired.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect to cycle hard and fast, with plenty of hills. Don't underestimate it.

Finnish Wilderness Week

It was a really enjoyable week with an opportunity to try many new things in a fantastic setting.

Most Inspirational Moment

It's difficult to pick a single moment, we enjoyed the whole week, especially seeing the Northern Lights (which is not guaranteed) whilst cross country skiing by moonlight across the frozen lake. The full day dog-sledding with Lauri and learning to cross country ski were also great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Henri was fantastic and he made the week for the group: he is charismatic, personable, friendly, organised, very knowledgeable and patient.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you use a hairdryer, then pack your own as there isn't one provided in the rooms (apparently basecamp has two that can be borrowed). If you are vegetarian and aren't very fond of soya meat, then note this in the dietary requirements as it was a feature of many of the veggie meals at basecamp during the week.

Beautiful Alpujarra

Wonderful opportunity to enjoy the more rural side of Spain – stunning scenery, friendly & hospitable accommodation and lovely walking.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to pick one - the views over the snow capped Sierra Nevada were hard to beat but also loved walking through the sunlit pine forests of Berchules Valley and wandering through the back streets of old town Granada.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - welcoming and friendly, clearly passionate about the region, its culture and history and very willing to impart that knowledge which added enormously to the enjoyment. Great choice of local bars etc for good value tapa, beer and coffee too!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't ignore the advice about warm clothing on the trip notes! Berchules is at reasonable altitude and was definitely chillier than I'd expected in late March, even when the sun was shining, particularly on the higher parts of the walks - really could have done with a warm hat some days!

Cuban Highlights Cycling Adventure

When I took the Exodus flyer from my windscreen 8 years ago at my local trail centre, I knew I’d be going on a cycling holiday one day… and that day has just been. Cuba did not disappoint – it is a perfect destination for a holiday like this. Lots of cycling and lots of culture… oh and lots of Mojitos!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Che Guevara Mausoleum and Museum and learning about life in Cuba before and after the Revolution.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yazel was brilliant - he made everything happen behind the scenes, organised our accommodation and evening meals - he kept us informed and looked after the groups' needs as and when things happened.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Living out of a suitcase pretty much moving day to day meant there wasn't too much opportunity to do laundry or dry wet articles of clothing - if you travel with this in mind you shouldn't go far wrong.

island of Evia

A week full of amazing moments, either walking in beautiful mountains, seeing sites that were inspirational, eating delicious local food, chatting with interesting people and looked after by a natural guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

seeing the massive Roman columns, half way through being quarried, just abandoned on a mountainside.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I could not imagine a leader more suited to this profession. He seemed to hold each of us in his mind all week, making sure our needs were met and questions answered. He never wavered in his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge of his countries rich history and culture. He was funny and respectful, and I loved the way he also looked after local businesses by carefully sharing out meals and taxis amongst them all.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you want a week of being looked after and at the same time experiencing a local Greek community and visiting amazing historical sites while walking in beautiful hills, then this is a trip worth considering.

Costa Rica - Pura Vida!

Our first trip with Exodus was a wonderful experience. The diversity of flora and fauna was amazing.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many wonderful moments - Boat trips, hikes, good company, great driver, excellent guide.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Guillermo was a fountain of information and always did his best to show us as many birds, animals and plants as possible. He is friendly and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you can avoid transfer/transit through USA, then do. Takes a very long time and we nearly missed our flight on return journey.

Land of the Tiger

A well structured holiday that delivered all that we had expected and more. Seeing some of rural India together with the 3 different game parks was spectacular with some rare sightings of some of India’s threatened species.

Most Inspirational Moment

There is not one moment that can be singled out as there were so many. Obviously the point of this trip for us was to see Tigers in the wild while there are still some about and to that end the goods were delivered with sightings of 7 tigers including a close encounter with one named 'Vagrant'. Leopard, Wild Dog, Indian Gaur and Jungle Cat were among some of the other species seen together with numerous other mammals and birds. The overnight train journey was also quite an experience and we even managed to get some sleep! The Taj Mahal is incredible as was the fort at Aggra.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Sarvjit Singh Sohi better known by our group as 'Singh' was brilliant. His local and wildlife knowledge was invaluable and allowed us to gain much more from this trip. He was very attentive and was always willing to attend to any needs or enquiries that we may have had and sorted out any problems quickly. He encouraged us to learn more about their culture and religions and was always able to answer our questions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure that you take a fleece or at least a warm sweater as at 5.30 in the morning it is quite cold and does not begin to warm up until around 8am. Be prepared for continual early morning calls at 5am or even 4.45. These are necessary to ensure that you get a good start in the park and from our experience certainly paid off. This trip is not suitable for anyone who does not have a taste for spicy food as alternatives are very limited. Do not forget your swimwear.

Vietnam Angkor (Classic)

Most Inspirational Moment

Meeting the people, all so friendly

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hai our tour leader was, fantastic. He has a fantastic personality, sence of humor, and great knowledge of the country. Not to mention a great handle on English. We would highly recommend Hai. 10 out of 10. Our Cambodian tour leader, whom we called Rose was also great, very dedicated to her job, a great sence of humor also.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Exodus is the best tour company. If you choose Exodus you won't be disappointed. This was my third Exodus trip & won't be my last.. Carol F.

Highly Reccomend

The perfect Vietnamese adventure. Cong was an amazing guide!

Most Inspirational Moment

I shed lots of tears at the History museum, it really was heartbreaking. All of the places we visited were just breathtakingly beautiful. Our holiday picture are other-worldly! I think the most inspirational part was seeing how these people live and realising what our contributions can do. We took colouring books and pencils for the children and the gratitude of the people whenever we did anything for them was so rewarding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cong was brilliant. He was very knowledgeable and very attentive. I spent a lot of time speaking to him on a personal level and he wasn't only a great guide but he was a really nice bloke. We had no waiting in queues and he only took us to the best authentic restaurants.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to be sweaty 24/7. The humidity is crazy and it is impossible to stay clean. Don't pack excessively because believe me you WILL wear the same couple outfits repeatedly because staying cool is the main objective. Plait long hair! I had my hair in tight French braids for the entire fortnight because otherwise it be sweaty, greasy and knotty. It seriously is the best option. Remember to tip kindly, these people rely on this income and it isn't anything to us. Pennies can make such a difference out there.
