Madeira

A most enjoyable holiday…walks, food and the group were great.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the walks in their variety were inspirational. The flowers and fauna in the higher walks were amazing...a luscious island.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre was terrific...passionate about his country, knowledgable, caring and expert. He always had the best interests of the group at heart and took every precaution to look after our safety. It was his love for the outdoors, the flowers and fauna that was inspirational.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and enjoy it. It's a beautiful island.

Peru Explorer

We cannot fault this holiday – well done Exodus
• Great itinerary, well planned action packed adventure from start to finish. Good accommodation and transport arrangements.
• Fabulous insight into Peru, its places, history, food, wildlife and peoples
• The greatest accolade goes to our guide who added significantly to our enjoyment of the trip and that of the group as a whole.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 'Eureka' moment of seeing Machu Picchu for the first time from the Sun Gate on the Inca Trail.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Peruvian guide was a great ambassador for Peru and all that it offers. His knowledge, English vocabulary, contacts, people skills and organisational skills were second to none. The whole group felt that they were looked after 24/7 by someone extremely competent. We have never had a better guide. In my own 40 year career in public service I saw good and bad examples of customer service and personally strove for continual improvement. There are very few who come up to our guide's standard across the board. Please pass on our thanks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good to do the Inca Trail if you have the time and are fit enough. We didn't use dollars, not many places took them and not the best rates ... we just used Sols (lots of advice favouring dollars that we don't agree with).

Treasures of Sicily

This is a very intensive tour all round the island. The climb up Mount. Etna was good as far as we could go which was curtailed due to heavy mist. There are several visits to ruins of Temples and Theatres. with plenty of time to explore.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Valley of the Temples at Agriegento

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Fabio was fun and knowledgeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring a good pair of walking shoes as well as waterproof clothing....we were travelling the last week in May

Prague to Budapest tour May 2015

My head is still buzzing with memories of the wonderful Prague to Budapest cycle tour! Our very friendly group of 15 were competently led by Jan from Slovakia, who was energetic, attentive and full of historical and local knowledge. Each day’s cycle ride presented a range of different scenery, terrain, refreshment opportunities and of course challenges. The distances in the saddle were well planned and certainly manageable in terms of length and difficulty with respect to the grade of the holiday. We tended to stop for about one and a half hours at lunch to ensure refuelling and recovery. You need to be prepared for a relatively speedy turn around on arriving at each hotel in the late afternoon in order to make the most of the evening tour, led by Jan, of the village/town/city and to then locate a suitable place to eat dinner. Each day’s cycling commenced between 8.30 to 9.00 on most days to ensure packing in as much as exploration as possible. The cities were pretty busy to say the least with spectacular architecture round every corner but the centre of the smaller towns and villages were equally interesting and more accessible in the time frame of each day. My favourite towns were Cesky Krumlov and Bratislava. Vienna was stunning and deserves another visit to do it justice. I advise reading up on the main historical events of the area before you go to put it all into perspective and of course be prepared for all weathers. Credit must be given to Jan for leading the whole trip so well. I am going to have difficulty finding a cycling holiday to match this adventure!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Cesky Krumlov, Bratislava, Night tour of Budapest, cycle tour of Vienna, all the cycling - even in the rain and on the rutted farm tracks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, welcoming and knowledgeable

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack light as living out of suitcase but be prepared for wet and cool weather. I went at end of May

Walking in Sardinia

A very full week with excellent walking….possibly too much food!!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching Tiscali

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable and personable

Walking the great wall

A very well organised trip. The walking is fairly tough, but rewarding. Another ‘once in a life time’ experience.

Of course, when considering this trip, you will expect to be spending a lot of time walking along the Great Wall. Therefore the variety of activities are not as high as on some trips, although you will find the different sections of the wall surprisingly varied. I particularly enjoyed ‘The Spiderman wall’ near the beginning – will leave it a surprise to find out what that is about.

The provision of food is well considered. Even for a vegetarian, there was plenty to eat, although there was most variety for meat eaters.

As usual there is a lot packed in to a small space of time. I had worried that I would not see much of Beijing with two half days, but as it was, we saw the Forbidden City, walked through the Hutongs of old Beijing, watched a flag lowering ceremony in Tianamen square, went to an acrobatics show and even had time for a massage to recover from the walking earlier on in the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

First sighting of the distant wall as we arrived at the home stay on a sunny afternoon. Shortly followed by first seeing the wall through the trees as we ascended from the valley on the first day's walk.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jerry was very organised, sociable and knowledgeable about the areas we visited. He was concerned for the less able members of the group and looked out for them. We were also impressed that seats had been reserved by a local Exodus staff member when we went to the acrobat show - people start going in to get the good seats three or four hours before the show starts, but we arrived just as it began and went straight to our seats.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The Air China flight is a bit more basic than normal, most of the entertainment caters for Chinese speakers. So either be prepared to watch old films or bring a book to read! As usual when travelling, if you expect to rough it a bit, you can only be pleasantly surprised. The quality of the accommodation varies, but it is all adequate. The walking was tougher than I might have expected based on the distances. This was partly due to a heat wave in May when I went on the trip, but also the terrain itself. You can expect the wall to undulate up and down quite a lot and also since it is on the tops of big hills, each day will usually begin with a bit of a slog uphill. So even the easier days will not be as easy as in the UK.

Camino de Santiago

An excellent trip with glorious weather – we were so lucky! 2 fab guides, great cycling, amazing food and mucho vino tinto! Thoroughly recommended and brilliant off road on the camino at times made for a different experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing to the top of the hill at O'Cebreiro and arriving above the clouds - a spectacular view and worth the slog!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Javier and Alfonso were great company and did an excellent job to all us English!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do some training beforehand!

Walking in Madeira

Excellent trip, fantastic experience and breath taking views!

Most Inspirational Moment

Definitely the walk across the highest point on Madeira. "Walking" over the clouds and having coffee at Pico Ruivo.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andre was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about fauna and flora, enthusiastic , charismatic and a great leader who kept the group together at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would strongly recommend to bring walking poles, especially for day 4 and 5 walks.

Holiday of a Lifetime

Jordan exceeded our wildest expectations, its fantastic with vast romantic deserts and exotic mountains and incredible history. Everyday provided new experiences. The main tourist sites of Petra, Little Petra and Gerasa are more than breathtaking and were almost deserted. The people are very friendly. Our group of 8 cyclists was accompanied by 2 leading members of Jordans’ National Cycling team, a mechanic, guide, 3 armed policemen and others. We never felt at any risk. The need to cover up for modesty was rarely apparent. Hotels were reasonable and food was good. Trek lightweight hybrid bikes were excellent. You must be fit, one of our group who was fit but had not cycled since childhood had to walk occasionally. Cycling varies between easy; technically difficult descents; and steep rolling hills. Temperatures were between 34 and about 40.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra & Gerasa were fantastic. The meal in the Jordanian home was great. The group was great fun

Thoughts on Group Leader

Allah was extremely knowledgable on a huge range of subjects, brilliant, amusing, always friendly. He made the trip what it was.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan may be more expensive than you expect particularly if you want to drink alcohol, which is available in most hotels. There are off-licences in Aqaba.

Fantastic cycling experience

My partner and I took this trip to see a part of the world that we had always been interested in exploring. We also love bike riding; it is a great way to explore new places at a different pace. This trip will suit anyone who is fit and enjoys seeing the countryside from a different perspective.

Most Inspirational Moment

Where to start! To name a few: Riding through Czech Canada (and making it up the hills), riding past the existing check points at the borders, cycling through open pastures and wine country, biking in West Hungary on the off road tracks. Hearing stories of those who attempted to cross the iron curtain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jan was fantastic. He had a wealth of knowledge and passion for history- almost no question he couldn't answer! His ability to manage 15 different people in our larger than usual group was admirable. He prepped the group each morning to ensure riders were ready for the day- this was helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do some hill riding before you go- the first 3 days of riding includes some hills. Also be sure to bring attire for all weather conditions- we had rail, hail and shine. Don't be put off by the distances or undulating terrain- you develop fitness as the trip progresses!
