Tour de Mont Blanc

We had an excellent Tour de Mont Blanc (TMB) in July 2015, enhanced by perfect sunny weather and no rain. Our guide was brilliant and had great knowledge of the walk and the geography, and really ensued we got the most from the experience. The scenery is breath-taking. There are some tough climbs but the guide ensured all of our group completed each walk whatever pace they were comfortable with.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspirational moment of the tour was reaching the Grand Col Ferret and crossing into Italy. The views were amazing and the walk down from the Col into Val Ferret was incredibly scenic. Reaching Brevent at 2,500 metres on the final day after climbing 1,600 metres to complete the walk was truly memorable.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group was led by Rupert Hutchinson. He was a great guide, very knowledgeable and experienced in the TMB. He also frequently described the scenery and route we were taking, and some of the history of how the mountains were formed. He led the group of various walking experiences and always ensured everyone completed each walk at the speed they were comfortable with. In the evenings he hosted us really well at our hotels and restaurants.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't think twice, do this walk with Exodus and you'll enjoy a walk and an experience of a lifetime.

Classic Dolomites

Excellent, good value trip. I had not visited South Tyrol before but the Dolomites had been on my bucket list for some time. I booked the regular trip not the more challenging departure but the walking was just right leaving at 9am and back to the hotel 5-6pm. I had looked at doing hut to hut treks but the real highlight was coming back to a base at Hotel Adler, using the pool and spa and loading up on local, delicious five course meals! Maybe less adventurous but an active holiday with maximum relaxation too.

Most Inspirational Moment

The stunning scenery brought to life by our guide and the hospitality of our family run hotel.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Extremely knowledgable and passionate about the area. Well qualified to lead on the mountains and genuinely concerned that everyone enjoyed their trip. Honest advice.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hire a bike from the hotel on the free day. Bolzano is too far away to be a good use of the time. Take wet weather gear and pack warm layers even in the height of summer if, like me, you feel the cold. Be prepared to test your fears (safely) if you don't like heights. Embrace the local food. If you want to use a little less English, scrub up on your German.....much more widely spoken than Italian in the area. If you have the time and budget, fit in a couple of days in Venice. Easy to get to from the airport transfer and a great contrast. Take home some prosecco!

Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route with Exodus

I cannot describe in words how wonderful the experience was. Our group was of 15 people from different backgrounds and age range 15-69years. There are two ways of climbing Kilimanjaro – 1. The only aim is to get on the top and back and 2. Enjoy the walk up and scenery and also get to the top. Lemosho route is best for those looking for the second option. The scenery is stunning and terrain changes everyday. Its hard to decide which day is better than others as all days are amazing. Organisation by Exodus, their partnership with African walking company and attention to detail makes this trip a memory of lifetime. Bit more expensive but if you are going to do this once then better do it with he best.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the Barranco wall on the day 5. This was the highlight of the trip. Barranco camp situated right next to the wall is an amazing camp site. Once is surrounded by stream, clouds with views of Moshi once the clouds lift, at the foothills of Kilimanjaro and surrounded by the eccentric looking plants. The wall next day looks intimidating but is fun to climb and guides help you through out the climb. The views are amazing from the top. This day brought smiles on everyones face and made us mentally stronger to tackle the last climb two days later.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Charles Teete was a perfect group leader who personally use to chat with everyone every morning to make sure we were well. He had hand on everybody's pulse so to speak through out the journey. His leadership skills, especially on the summit night were fantastic and he kept a tab on all of us (we all walked up together from day 1 to last day). Very accommodating especially he made sure that we get a refill of water on the longest day (day 4) where we walked to Lava tower).

Advice for Potential Travellers

July-August is a good time as we had no rain. Windproof jacket must as some days it is too hot with fleece and too cold with T-shirt. Breathable jacket takes care of that well. Food is excellent and hence bring along only nutrition bars and chocolates. Walking poles are useful on descend and are a must. Knee support for those with painful knees especially for last two days of descent. Please get Nalgene bottle with insulation cover (Nalgene Bottle Carrier Insulated for 32 Oz bottles, Gray). I got his for $16 from amazon but was the only bottle which did not freeze).

Highlites of Provence Hiking tour--Southern France

I’ve traveled extensively, mostly NOT by way of a booked tour. However, this was undoubtedly a fabulous experience and would do it again. Meeting people from across the globe and bonding with them as if we were mates for years. All within a weeks time! Another positive about a booked tour, if you know your exact destination, and/or type of activities you prefer then the rest is done for you!
The trip details were pretty true to the write up, including our lovely hotel…great location, clean hotel, delicious breakfasts & friendly staff.

Most Inspirational Moment

Just hiking and walking as if not a care or worry in the world and the only thought...wondering what magnificent sight was next....a divine lavender field or quaint village! Not to mention the delicious wines & cheeses...very inspirational!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Not only did John Bernard and I share the same day and hour of birth, he was delightful, had a great disposition and immensely enjoys what he does. Also very informative during the hike.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was my first Exodus trip, however a few people in my group had been w Exodus time and time again....I can see why after one booking!

Amazon Rainforest, Inca Trail & Lake Titicaca

Tremendous trip. Well organised. Great guide. Fantastic memories.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sun gate at Machu Picchu. It was so good to see this marvellous site of Machu Picchu after four days.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Holger was excellent. Quirky sense of humour but knew what he was doing! Felt safe at all times.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would avoid the group flight. I heard that it wasn't comfortable.

South African Walking Safari

Fantastic trip. Such a variation of landscape and scenery.
From wide open prairie, rainforest jungle and wild bushland to golden sand beaches, the Indian Ocean and souring mountains… we had it all. Oh, and too many wild life encounters along the way to actually list here in this short review.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Drakensberg and the Indian Ocean at St Lucia.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leaders were just fantastic. Really nice guys. This being a camping/lodge/cabin based kind of trip meant that we had two guides, David and Endi, but we also a third in Coli who was learning the ropes. The three guys were knowledgeable about pretty much everything and the amount of stuff that they did each day to make sure that the trip ran to plan and everyone was happy was just phenomenal. Two solid weeks of driving, guiding, setting up camp and cooking and they were still smiling at the end.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack for all seasons. We went in July, end of winter in SA. I almost didn't take up on the advice of packing a 3/4 season sleeping, but I was glad that I did. The nights got cold, but during the day it was warm enough for t shirt and shorts. We even laid around on the beach and splashed around in the Indian Ocean for a day before heading up into Drakensberg where we had a little sleet and snow. It all added to the fantastic contrast of the two weeks though.

Perfect family holiday

A fantastic family holiday, with a full, well thought through itinerary that was great for both the kids and the parents. The hotel location is perfect and the extra breeze on the top of the mountains is ideal for keeping a bit cooler in the evenings. Good food, and a great group of families.

Most Inspirational Moment

The surprise lunch location on one of the days (I won't spoil it for others!). The kids cooking evenings with the chefs were especially entertaining.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo was a brilliant leader who organised everything to perfection and had the children eating out of the palm of his hand and hanging on his every word. His enthusiasm and local knowledge meant we all could relax and enjoy the activities, which were all well planned and well paced. The ideal group leader, in fact!

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes covered all we needed to know.

TMB July 2015

Very enjoyable trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Great mix of ages and nationalities in what soon became a tight group.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Experienced and knowledgable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be ruthless when choosing the kit you will carry. 8-9 hours of challenging walking every day. Long and often steep climbs and decent. Worth every step for the places and views you will encounter.

Walking the Picos de Europa

A moderate – graded walking experience which gave time to take a relaxed pace, if needed. We were lucky to gel immediately as a group who adored the outdoors and the views with just enough physical exertion, while all had he ablility to push on if time was short. The weather is very variable, from sticky to thundery to burning hot to fresh and sunny. Every valley may have a different weather experience, therefore every day was a surprise.
Evenings at the hotel were relaxed with great cooking, a full bar and extremely friendly hosts.

Most Inspirational Moment

My favourite walk, for range of surface underfoot, range of gradient and stunning views was the Tielve village at 620m to La Mesa peak in Main range of mountains at 1612m. The sun, fun and camaradarie were all perfect on that day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Álvaro was amzing. He took a personal interest in every member of the group and showed great pride in his area of Spain, while trying to cater for the needs of everybody with great humour. If he had any fault it was striving for a perfect experience every day - in the Picos weather, this can't happen. However, he adapted the itinerary accordingly each day, and even managed to salvage what would have been a thunderous disaster of a day by finding a riverside walk the was not on the agenda. He had a suberb instinct and excellent reflexes if a member was having some bother. He managed to be both rear and front leader at the same time, thanks to his mountain-goat qualities!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for any terrain, any climatic conditions. Be flexible.
