Highlights of the Dolomites

My last visit to the Dolomites was many years ago and I had forgotten how spectacular they are especially when viewed from the high level hikes.
It was a fabulous week and this is best confirmed that the day after my return I was already planning a similar trip for the next year!

Most Inspirational Moment

It is difficult to say what was the best part - possibly the ascent of the Piz Boe peak (3152m) with the most fantastic panorama!

Thoughts on Group Leader

There were two group leaders for this trip because there was a choice every day of doing a level three walk or a harder level five. I did some of both levels and therefore got to see both of our leaders in action and I have to say that both Eric and Albert were first class. The daily walks were fully explained in advance and led with absolute competence which included the occasional diversion from the original plan in order to accommodate changes in weather conditions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you fancy a change mid-week it is well worth the bus trip to Bolzano which is a lovely city with pedestrianised, cobbled streets. The Ice Man museum is fascinating too. Allow at least one and a half hours here.

Classic Kenya Safari

This was my third time on this wonderful tour – everything about it is to be recommended. The accommodation is extremely clean and comfortable, and the tour leaders and all the staff involved at the lodge and the camp are so kind and completely dedicated to giving you a memorable trip.
There were 9 of us in the group and we got along really well, which seems to be the way with Exodus groups!

Most Inspirational Moment

The Masai Mara is surely one of the most beautiful, vast and varied places on earth and its' preservation (and the conservation of its' animals) is of the utmost importance. Seeing cheetah cubs for the first time has to come top of my list of 'moments'. Unfortunately we didn't manage to spot a leopard this time, but the other wildlife more than made up for it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Davies and Peter are friendly, knowledgeable, kind and amusing and nothing is too much trouble for either of them. They must be among the best leaders that Exodus have.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a couple of long drives, one of which is very bumpy! They actually go so quickly that you don't really notice them, as there is always something to see along the way. Try to take a long lens (minimum 300mm) - not essential but you will be amazed at the images you can get!

Cycling the Dalmation Coast

A fun holiday, with fantastic views, beautiful secluded coastal villages, and enjoyable cycling.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling up a long hill on the first morning, everyone making the top to have a fantastic lunch, cooked in local tradition. Then relaxing and getting to know the people in the group, back on the bikes for a downhill ride to a small harbour village. It set the scene for the rest of the holiday.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was polite and helpful, he smiled and joked with the group, but was also aware of our safety whilst cycling and getting on and off the ferries. He was passionate about his country and it's history, a true professional in every sense, thus helping to make it an enjoyable holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't expect 5star accommodation, the rooms were clean and tidy and adequate for your needs. Some of the hills were quite demanding, so be reasonably fit as it's worth it when you reach the top. Take in the breath taking scenery whilst cycling and ferry hopping, just go with the flow

Mont Blanc Highlights

One of the best holidays in years, spending time in stunning alpine scenery with a great group of people. Although it took a few hours to hike up to the summits, the effort was worth the huff and puff. At the end of the day, we were welcomed back to the chalet by home-made cake (nothing like a hike to build up an appetite) and a hot tub to ease tired muscles. Well, as for the evening meals, please can you come and cook for our next dinner party, Jane and Colin?

Most Inspirational Moment

Having a tasty French baguette while sitting at the top of the Aiguillette des Houches, looking across at Mont Blanc, thinking this is the most perfect picnic spot in the world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide, Nick, was knowledgeable, pointing out plants and places of interest. He kept a steady pace for the group and was sensitive to people's different ability levels, especially when it came to going down hill.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you do some hiking beforehand so you can enjoy the walks as much as possible. A good level of fitness is definitely needed.

Mountains & Villages of Corsica - 6 September

The travel arrangements were excellent but the hotel was poor. Although very clean, the rooms were shabby, particularly the bathrooms. The food was uninspiring – it would have been good to have had some local dishes with fresh vegetables and fruit. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and meeting our fellow travellers.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views from the mountain tops were stunning and just kept coming.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Emily was amazing! She looked after us all really well from start to finish, including setting alarm clocks, train travel and suggestions for our day off to emergency repairs to damaged hiking boots high up in the mountains. A true ambassador for Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We were lucky with the weather with most days about 25'c but it can change quickly so wet weather gear is a must.

Slovenia walking

Relaxing and enjoyable walking in Slovenia although would have preferred only one day of walking on the flat around a lake rather than two. Accommodation good but surprised all lunches taken in restaurants and not as a packed lunch.

Most Inspirational Moment

Ridge walk Meeting my fellow walkers - all lovely people

Thoughts on Group Leader

very friendly and pleasant

CYCLING in Croatia -MVJ

Trip itself is very good , beautiful scenery, great tour guide – all well organized except misleading in itinerary stating it is ‘moderate’ biking. First days it’s mostly uphill, hills long up to 25 km….moderate ? unless you are well trained it’s a struggle and should be quoted as advanced biking to my opinion.

Most Inspirational Moment

..friendly people, clean and hospitable country

Thoughts on Group Leader

Marko was exceptional leader, knowledgeable in every aspect, friendly and accommodating - always smiling. He made this trip even more memorable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

train - train - train....otherwise you are going to suffer ...those hills are brutal ;)

Cycling the Cape & Winelands

South Africa is certainly a place you can easily fall in love with. Great wine, great food and perfect cycling on gorgeous long undulating roads. Although there are a couple of short steep climbs they are certainly doable providing you have a good level of fitness. I finally conquered hill climbing without stopping just going at my own pace, in fact Chapmans Peak was so amazing I wanted to go back down and climb it again. Our guides ensured our safety at all times and looked after us very well, from organising lunches to sorting restaurants for dinner in particular our favourite liquorice allsorts snack. If you love cycling and wine then you’ll love this trip!!! Made also great by a lovely bunch of people.

Most Inspirational Moment

The mountainous scenery and whale watching was the most spectacular.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Tallis was fantastic ensuring our safety at all times allowing us to enjoy the cycling at our own pace whilst ensuring the group was all together at various points. He was very knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble if you wanted/needed something he would ensure he did his best to provide it. Both he and Seviso cooked for us on occasions depending on the lodgings or lunch stops and this was excellent, they both joined in with the group too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just enjoy the ride and the wind!!!!!!!

Perfect alpine scenery...

If you enjoy solid alpine hiking but prefer a base camp this is the alpine trip you want.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 360-degree views from Aiguillette des Houches were incredible !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nick did a great job with a mixed group, adapting and adjusting the pace to ensure we all enjoyed the walks.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is probably harder than you think - lots of climbing and some tough descents. 'Good health and moderate fitness' ...? - I would say 'excellent fitness/endurance' is required.

Tour Du Mont Blanc Week

Tough but doable. Like being with a group, but this particular trip would work just as well self-guided, and would have seemed more like a holiday (as opposed to a “forced march”).

Most Inspirational Moment

Top of Col de Tricot, the end of the toughest climb on the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Quite capable, although sometimes more interested in adhering to overly rigid timetables than to accommodating the group's comfort.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect steep up and steep down, all day. Given the same guide and local organizer, expect brief, regimented breaks, and poor communications between the guide and local organizer.
