Reviews

walking the great wall, china

Fantastic, group tour, guide (jerry was such a nice guy and nothing was to much trouble for him) , food, weather and the organising from start to finish was superb.

Most Inspirational Moment

seeing the wall fro the first time and climbing the crouching tiger

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jerry was fantastic from when we meet till we left nothing was to much trouble and he was always on hand to help.

Advice for Potential Travellers

pack a warm jacket, fleece as at night it did get cold.

Walking the Picosde Europa

Really excellent walking in a surprisingly quiet area of Spain, good food, very good guide and great company.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the village of Tresvisio after climbing up the zigzag track for three hours. The view of Neveron de Urriellu from Cabesa La Mesa

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable, keen to ensure everyone got the most out of the trip and good fun

Advice for Potential Travellers

A good level of fitness is required to fully appreciate this level 5 week

Walking in Provence October 2015

I would highly recommend this holiday to anyone who likes walking with a wide variation of different types of terrain and views. All packed into a week. The hotel Des Alpes was conveniently located at the end of main street, so very convenient to walk into town for shopping, ice creams and we ate out in a different restaurant each evening.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our guide, Yves was extremely competent and knew the area, the flora and fauna and al lot of local history and customs. Our group would have followed him anywhere.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yves was an inspirational group leader. He was great fun to be with and hos knowledge appeared limitless. If you are thinking of taking ths tour in 2016 then check that Yves is your group leader and you will not be disappointed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Exodus provided excellent advice of what to pack. Just follow that advice. A good pair of walking shoes are essential for comfort on the rocky trails and walking pole(s) were a great help on the steep downward slopes.

Gentle riding, stunning towns, fantastic guide

This is an ideal trip for anyone that doesn’t want a heavy slog all day….I would have preferred a slightly more challenging route as the biking is pretty easy, lots of it flat or on cycle paths, but you arrive in lovely towns each night with the opportunity to explore them, and Michele puts his heart & soul into the trip, so overall great fun.

Most Inspirational Moment

Venice, Verona, Vincenza, Lake Garda...all beyond beautiful!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele is a superb guide; enthusiastic, funny, determined that everyone will find love and adore his homeland as much as he does...fantastic!

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you're looking for challenging riding on slick bikes, then you should note the bikes are heavy, the gears not great though you barely need them most days....so if you're an aspiring Tour cyclist (all you middle-aged men in lycra!!) then this might not work for you. But if you're happy to put aside your competitive side and explore the amazing towns in the area; Trento, Verona, Lake Garda, Venice and of course stunning Vincenza then relax and you'll love it. Share a lock between two every day - don't bother carrying one each - they are super heavy and hardly ever needed. Stay on in Venice for a few days even if you're on a budget - get a cheap Airbnb in Mestre and a travelcard and it's super quick & easy to travel in each day - you'll have an amazing time.

A well organised and well lead walk along the Spanish end of The Camino

Despite rain for the first three days we enjoyed it immensely.

Most Inspirational Moment

The arrival at Santiago after 90 miles of walking

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was excellent. Concerned for our welfare and great fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is easy in that the trail is well maintained and although there are some ups and downs and one long day of 29 kilometres it will be well within the ability of a regular walker.

A MUST DO HOLIDAY - BOOK NOW!!!!!

I am 61 and have done a fair bit of travelling and hiking. I had seen friend’s DVDs of a similar holiday around the Canyons and this inspired me to book with Exodus (we had used various other tour operators previously but were ‘Exodus Virgins’.) This holiday far exceeded my expectations in terms of scenery (so different to anything I had previously seen), varied walking (loved Angels Landing), quality of leaders (they were very knowledgeable, informative, great communicators, patient, motivational, inspiring, fun to be around and well organised), accommodation (great accommodation with all facilities a girl could need), transport (new and very comfortable; should be the norm!) and finally a well put together itinerary which enabled us to get the most out of the holiday. I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday – to such an extent that I would say it was my best holiday for years and years – ignore any negative comments!!

Most Inspirational Moment

I honestly can not select anything specific as there were so many 'jaw dropping' moments.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Evan and Abby were absolutely fab! The leaders MADE THIS HOLIDAY and put huge efforts into every minute of the day. Exodus, please value these people because without them or people like them, the quality of your holidays would be significantly reduced!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take limited clothing as there are opportunities to rinse clothes. Usual stuff about layers, all weathers etc.

Highlights of Madagascar

The trip gives a good insight into the exotic fauna and flora of Madgascar and into several of the “cottage” industries that have been set up, mainly to provide items for the tourist trade. The trip involves many hours of travelling on roads that are in many cases badly surfaced, even when classifies as a “Route National” – this is not a trip for those that don’t like long coach journeys! The arrangements were very good and the hotels, in the main, excellent though facilities were quite varied.

Most Inspirational Moment

Obviously the wildlife was the main highlight: lemurs, chameleons and geckos were all fabulous. The range of species, colours, habits etc were constantly fascinating. If I had to pick one moment, however, it would be the chameleon catching an insect - so fast, so accurate, a great sight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Elodoie was a great tour leader - full of enthusiasm and always wanting to tell us more about the island, its people, language and way of life - as well as the animals and flora.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long coach journeys: make sure you have insect repellent and malaria prophylaxis: good walking boots/shoes are essential. I found poles very useful.

Dolomites Lake Garda & Venice

A very enjoyable and varied trip through the Dolomites, along Lake Garda and with plenty of time to see tour Verona and Venice

Most Inspirational Moment

Travelling through the Dolomites, swimming in Lake Garda, see Verona & Venice

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michelle is one of the best leaders I have had. He goes to huge effort to lead the trip and give us his extensive local knowledge of history, architecture etc and make sure the group is ok.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you like swimming take some swimming kit. There are a few mosquitoes around. Exodus supply a pannier and handlebar bag + water bottle

Mont Blanc Highlights

Chalet was lovely and hosts Jane and Colin just the best people. Cordial, hilarious, amazing chefs and always willing to lend a hand or correct you on your pronunciation of ‘croissant’.. Loved them.
Hot tub was very much appreciated after a long day trekking.
Don’t take this trip lightly, it can be pretty tough in places and would not grade this as Moderate but more Moderate – Strenuous. Don’t let that put you off, it is a gorgeous trip in every way and you will hobble away from this feeling pretty damn wonderful!

Most Inspirational Moment

Day 2.. stopping for lunch and having the Alps appear through a cloud forest before us. Was just amazing, will never forget how close they were or how hard they were to climb up

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark was very much at home on the mountain

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you use poles bring them, if you don't or haven't used them before then don't buy any especially. You either know how to walk with them or you don't and this is not the place to learn. Tough mornings up and even tougher afternoons down. Make sure you have some fitness before you arrive.

Fabulous Peru

From start to finish this holiday lived up to and beyond our expectations. The organisation of the trip by the ground staff in Peru ran smoothly throughout. The only thing that took the edge off things was learning the night before we started the trek that it had been extended by 5km due to the road being dug up. So our first day was now a 16km trek.

Most Inspirational Moment

There are too many to put them all down but one would have to be Machu Picchu and another would have to be, according to our guide, our "Limo" drive down to Lake Titicaca. It was in a bicycle rickshaw. That was fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ollie, our guide, was just the best. Nothing was too much trouble. He was very informative about the places we went to and about the way of life out there today and in the past.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes, the trek is not that easy at altitude. Make sure you do train up for the trek as there are many sections with steps which really do take it out on your legs. What you may be able to do easily here is a lot harder with the thinner air. And don't be afraid of saying you can't go on in the first or second day. Help is there to get you to trek back down. After the second day you have to finish the trek. Make sure you do listen to advice, drink plenty and walk slowly.
