Chile January 2016

We chose this holiday as it gave the opportunity to visit both the Atacama in the north and Patagonia in the south, and we certainly were’nt disappointed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Attending a Rodeo, and looking across to snow capped volcano we'd just visited.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent... Well informed and most caring

Advice for Potential Travellers

Necessarily there is quite a lot of travelling.

Highs and Lows in Sri Lanka

The holiday offers an opportunity to see a wide range of what Sri Lanka has to offer – including ancient sites (some 2,000+ years old), national parks, a wide range of wild animals and birds, temples, churches and other historic buildings, and magnificent trees and scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

(1) Seeing 40-50 elephants (out of an estimated 3,000 in Sri Lanka) and wild peacocks roaming free in their environment. (2) Kandy's lake and botanical gardens. (3) Seeing and climbing Lion's Rock. (4) Cycle ride through countryside near Giritale. (5) Visiting the Hilltop Club in Nuwara Eliya ('Little England').

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roshan was very good! He imparted information about, and history of, Sri Lanka in easy-to-assimilate chunks. He was very sociable and easy-going and easy to get on with. Gamini and Nisha (driver and helper) deserve mention too - they were excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

(1) Take some just-below-the-knee shorts to ensure access to temples will not be barred. (2) It's mostly hot! So drink plenty of (bottled) water, not tap water. (3) In Nuwara Eliya, being high in the mountains, a sweater is beneficial.

Discover Sri Lanka

The holiday far exceeded my expectations in many ways. The hotels, the organisation, the variety of activities and the tour leader.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking Adam's Peak.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I thought our group leader was excellent. Very organised, kind and with a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try not to take too much luggage.

Sri Lanka cycling january 16

Just back from exhilarating trip. It’s fun, it’s tiring, it’s varied. The cycling is challenging enough to give a real sense of achievement. Plenty of time for sight seeing and relaxing especially later on. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with very friendly people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at old colonial era hill country mansion after 2500 metres of climbing to Nurawa Eliya. Walking up on Sigiriya rock, especially if you don't like heights.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suresh was excellent, just the right balance of humour and directing us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Cycling is quite challenging on the climbs and in the heat but only 3 of our group made use of the support vehicle and then only for short periods, no-one took the train. c half our group used cleats but they're not essential and on the un-made up or very busy roads could be tricky.

Don't hesitate!

This was my first time in a trip like this, and my first time with Exodus. My only problem now is deciding what trip to do next!

Most Inspirational Moment

Meeting like-minded travellers, and cycling through beautiful scenery, through towns and villages, and getting a real taste of how locals live.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Freddie was excellent. His knowledge was second to none, and his English vocabulary was better than some native English speakers! Others on the trip, who've been on other similar holidays noted that Freddie's commitment surpassed the average, so while I can only say I was delighted, I wanted to ensure he got the credit he deserves in comparison with his peers.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip is listed as 'moderate': I'd consider this accurate for regular cyclists. I exercise most days, though rarely cycle, and I personally would consider it as somewhere between 'moderate' and 'challenging'. That said, I complete the full 623km and only struggled on the mountains (day 9) where I had to walk a little towards the top. There's always the back-up bus though, so just do what you can do, or as much as you want to do.

Charity Tour

We were part of a charity bike tour for WaterAid Canada and had an amazing time exploring Central America by bike

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing the hills though incredible heat and seeing the amazing sights along route.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leaders were way beyond what I expected, they were knowledgeable and engaging, but also had a strict sense of safety and our best interest at heart

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack your bags, and get ready for a great time

Discover Costa Rica - wonderful experience

Excellent holiday – good leader and driver. Good mix of people. Good insight into the best of Costa Rica and I want to go back and do it all again!

Most Inspirational Moment

Nothing in particular stands out - the holiday really started the moment we boarded the boat to Tortoguero and within five minutes saw a crocodile and it just got better and better.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Superb. A Costa Rican who had a degree in ornithology and tourism - he could spot an animal/bird in a tree that we would never have seen. He became a integral part of our group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is extremely leisurely - the walks are short and very manageable, so don't be put off by the fact that a walk is included most days.

Cycling Cuba

An excellent cycling trip with plenty to challenge the keen cyclist. We saw hugely varied aspects of Cuban life, from farming to city and town life. The group were great fun and we all got on very well. The tour guide was excellent and looked after us from start to finish.

Most Inspirational Moment

The stop over in the eco lodge in the Sierra Maestra. This was peaceful and tropical and a lovely opportunity to relax in a lovely garden with the birds singing. It would have been very easy to stay another day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Freddie was absolutely brilliant. He was an expert cyclist and kept us safe and on schedule. He was supportive of cyclists at all levels. He has a great knowledge and understanding of his county's history and current issues. I appreciated his organisation of places to eat at night, but he was always keen to say that he was happy for people to do their own thing. Can't fault him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a full on trip, and you don't have a lot of time at each stop so you need to be organised and to think ahead about your kit, your money and some extra munchies to keep you going. You need to be strict with your hand hygiene and be careful what you choose to eat. Stomach bugs are an issue.

Wonderful tour of Costa Rica

First time with Exodus, we travelled with a group of friends, plus three other couples to make up the numbers. As a group we immediately realised that we were going to have a good time together – this was a good start and then of course the rest of the holiday – touring the highlights of Costa Rica was perfect, helped along by a wonderful guide (Andres) and our driver (Carlos).

Most Inspirational Moment

We enjoyed every day - there was something different to see each day and each was special in its own way. The hanging bridges at Monteverde were wonderful, once you got used to them and the nature reserve at Manual Antonio with wonderful natural beaches, racoons, lizards and monkeys coming on to the beach with the racoons trying to get into rucksacks, they know how a zip works. The pacific ocean where we were was wonderfully warm. The best - seeing the Quetzal on the last day!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Brilliant - he soon became part of the group and answered all our questions with knowledge and patience! Our driver also became a key part of the group - making it all the more enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that in the rain forest it is very humid and everything in your cases will need airing when you get to your next destination. Make sure you take binoculars and ideally a compact camera - you need to be quick off the mark when taking photos.

Discover Sri Lanka

The best holiday we have ever experienced. Not only were all the activities wonderful, Sujan and his team made every effort to make it a trip of a lifetime.

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to describe. River rafting was the most fun, the elephant safari was magical, climbing the lion rock fortress was scary but worthwhile and the temples were really beautiful. The variety of birds was more than I anticipated and lots of great photography moments. Everyday brought something new and exciting but the ultimate was seeing twelve blue whales just six miles off Dondra Head. Local people were so friendly and the food and hotels were great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujan was the best part of the trip. He was friendly but strict to keep us all on time. Susan, Gamini (driver) and Nishantha (the conductor) all worked as a trusted team making us feel safe and happy at all times. They even organised non-tour activities including bird watching opportunities. All three smiled from start to finish. A pleasure to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and enjoy the experience. The more you take part in the activities the more you will enjoy every day.
