Tour De Mont Blanc

This is my second trip with Exodus and again they have surpassed them selves What a wonderful holiday I had on the tour It was a brilliant experience.Great walking Beautiful scenery, great company and great fun. The group really got on well and all were of a similar standard of walking which helped as no one was under pressure. Our guide John and Camp support Clare I can not say enough good things about them John was a marvelous leader keeping a steady pace( or as he said himself a plodding Alpine pace) so that nobody felt under pressure while ensuring everyone was safe and enjoying each days walking. Some days were tougher than others and we had some very wet days but Johns attitude kept everyones spirits high and we had great fun every day I would recommend that you be fit if going on trip as this would add greatly to you enjoyment of trip.
Clare the camp support was brilliant from cooking great food to pitching tents and alsway in good form and so
helpfull
I really enjoyed the camping but would recommend spending the extra to have a tent to yourself as the extra space means a lot especially living in a tent for 14 nights. Be prepared to help out around the campsite doing such chores as taking down tents in the morning Great fun in pouring rain….. Helping with wasking up and clearing thing away after meals THe food supplied was excellent and plenty of it You will not go hungry If you want a great experience great walking and great fun go for this trip I would do it again if I got the chance

Carpathian Walking & Bears

A great week spent walking in the Carpathian mountains in the company of some like-minded people. Villa Hermani was a lovely place to be based, and Katharina was a helpful and friendly host. Rural Romania was stunning and straight from another era. The hikes were varied and took in a range of different scenery (alpine pasture, woodland, gorges…), and the grading of leisurely-moderate was fair. Visits to Brasov, Bran Castle and the Saxon Village provided a nice cultural complement to the walks.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing wild bears from a hide was a real highlight, especially the mother with two cubs. The visit to the Bear Sanctuary provided an interesting comparison, and it was moving to learn about the stories of the bears living there. Our hikes took us through some beautiful scenery and it was great to encounter local shepherds (and at one point sample some some local cheese!). The visit to the monastery in the rocks was also really interesting, and made all the more enjoyable by the company of the friendly dog who decided to join us for the trek.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Udo was a great tour leader with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm about the people and wildlife of Transylvania. He took the time to get to know everybody in the group and always made sure to take plenty of breaks during hikes to ensure no one got left behind! He was very personable and had a great sense of humour, which made the trip all the more fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you take a spare pair of shoes! Mine got wet on the first day and took a little time to dry off, so it was handy to have a second pair. It's also worth bringing a few snacks to add to your lunch if, like me, you sometimes crave the odd chocolate bar (lunch typically consists of cheese / ham sandwiches and fruit, and is prepared by guests at breakfast time).

Gorillas and Masia Mara

This trip was everything that I could have asked for. I was particularly impressed with the Exodux team, they managed a lively disparate group and kept the trip on schedule, provided great food and information. The itinerary was very varied and interesting with something different everyday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The time with the Gorillas was beyond my expectations, we were so close to these most beautiful and gentle creatures, it was breath-taking. I had a smile plastered all over my face for days afterwards.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lelei was excellent, he had a couple of individuals in the group who were on a different time schedule to the rest but he managed it very well and kept us all moving. The remainder of the staff were also superb with the chef being amazing on a daily basis.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Sit back and enjoy.

Madagascar Discoverer

What a sensational trip! Broad in extent; deep in experiences in this fascinating country. Covering an amazing and surprising diversity of landscapes, wildlife, plant life, cultures and endless moments of ‘what’s next around the corner to amaze the senses?’ Just immerse yourself and be deeply rewarded!

Most Inspirational Moment

I was just blown away by the whole experience. Obviously the wildlife (lemurs, chameleons) and the baobabs are something very special, and I really loved the 4WD trip to Tsingy and back.

Thoughts on Group Leader

In a word: exceptional! Armel ('Mel') was so knowledgeable, informative, caring and an absolute bundle of fun - and, above all, just so thoroughly professional. I simply cannot speak more highly of this terrific guy!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it!

Wonderful Mongolia

The Mongolian Adventure trip exceeded all my expectations. It took me back to a time when people were more interested in humanity than in possessions. I thought Mongolians would be similar to Chinese but they aren’t. They are open and friendly. Ulaanbaatar is a pleasant city and we were there for the spectacular Nadaam Festival, The opening ceremony, the wrestling, archery and the horse race were great but the day before the public turned out in national dress! The desert, the gir camps and the nomadic families were experiences to be savoured.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking around the main square with all the locals in traditional dress. The welcome from the nomadic families ran it a close second.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Terrific! Competent, flexible and a good laugh

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't hesitate, it's fabulous. The food is good, the camps are comfortable and spotless.

Walking the Picos de Europa

An excellent walking trip, probably the best Exodus trip I have done.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots, but probably completing the scramble to the summit of Mancondiu.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent in every way. Not only a really good walk leader who is really knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife but also really caring about the needs and aspirations of his group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You do need to be reasonably fit to get the most out of this trip and it can get very hot in July and august, we were quite lucky to get northerly winds on most days.

Walking and Prosecco Bubbles

Foothills of the Dolomites are a beautiful and unspoilt area of Italy with the added bonus of tasting the delicious Prosecco bubbles. Hotel Villa Soliga is comfortable, clean , excellent food , with a delightful pool area and staff who are extremely helpful . All the Restaurants Exodus took the Group to on the evenings we didn’t eat in the hotel were excellent and the final evening at Al Roccolo was superb set high up in the hills overlooking the vineyards . Walking overall was good , however, disappointing on occasions when the guide lost his way and part of the group. Also we often seemed to be walking “off piste” which turned into scrambling on tricky terrain. Group on this trip were a fantastic bunch of people and made the trip for me personally .

Most Inspirational Moment

Several of the walks including the walk from Cison di Valmarino to Castelbrando , very pretty village and impressive views up to Castelbrando , lovely place to stop for refreshments. Castelbrando was stunning , although little information given . Valdobbiadene gorgeous area and the wine tasting at San Gregoria . Guided sightseeing walk around Treviso was very enjoyable . Route around Asolo which is one of the strategic areas from the Great War , stunning views of the Dolomites . Again , disappointed little detail given apart from what information you picked yourself . Asolo tuned out to be a beautiful village and an area well known for producing superior Prosecco . Experienced a new drink here made with Prosecco, Elderflower and mint called a Hugo - delicious.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very disappointed with Group Leader , Severio . He spoke excellent English and was a pleasant enough character . He fulfilled the basic requirement and no more. His heart didn't seem to be in it and was unenthusiastic and lacked passion , his aim was to get to a bar. Compared to previous experiences on Exodus trips the Leader would be more social and share his time between the group and would impart knowledge , interesting facts and details of the places visiting . Leaders in the past have always been aware of the group and their capabilities and listened to their requests. Whilst walking there was one pace, Severio's pace. Walk along the River from Treviso seemed like a "frogmarch" in what was an incredibly hot afternoon , again little information given about the area or flora/fauna. At end of walk , the bar we had been told we were heading for was closed- this was a 3 hour walk . Walk around the Valdobbiadene area , lost his way on occasions and one of the trails was definitely not a marked route and ended in scrambling through a wooded area. Again a very hot day and some members of group experienced heat exhaustion , resulting in needing to take a break until they felt able to carry on . Severio had gone on ahead and remaining group arrived at the refuge a good 30 mins later he hadn't come back down the path to find us . After lunch he set off at such a pace he lost a majority of the group as we didn't know which direction he had taken. We had to phone him. On arrival at Villa Barbaro , he said we had 15 mins to look around which many said wasn't long enough and we needed a little more time. Also thought this was insulting to Villa Barbaro and felt time pressured. Severio needs more guidance and support and needs to appreciate the difference between being a guide for one of the mass market holiday companies and working with Exodus.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Incredibly humid in June and July , ensure you have breathable walking gear and carry a camel back for water . Take poles , they are useful and needed at times. Be prepared for mosquitos and take repellent and a plug for your room.

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank Elaine for her feedback. I sincerely regret, however, that she was disappointed with her tour leader. As mentioned in our response to Alison’s review, Walking the Prosecco Hills is a new trip this season and this was the leader’s first time leading this particular trip. On our other trips he has received positive feedback from our clients, but until he receives further training he will not lead another departure of this trip; we hope this will help to avoid similar client disappointment going forward.

Classic Patagonia Treks

The breath taking landscapes/views, whether you were sitting in the bus or hiking.
Don’t forget to look up!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Las Torres from a distance as we were driving into Chile and then actually getting to the base . It was same feeling when I saw and climbed to the base of Mount Fitzroy.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Xavier was everything that you want in a guide and more. He was knowledgeable, organised, very friendly, accommodating, possibility the most patient and considerate guide I have met! Our other guides, Paula and Sebastian, were equally excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes are confusing, as my fellow hikers have suggested, - Activity Level of 5 is very valid and nothing to do the accommodation nor the fact that you need to carry you stuff for a few days as suggested by the guy I spoke to in Sales. - you definitely need a bigger pack, max 40L, rather than a day pack - you will have to carry kit in your pack for all weathers so layer up. We had good weather but it did include sunshine, rain, snow and lots of wind - Essentials to pack, definitely bring a pair of flipflops/jandles/tongs/crocks, pain killers, dry bags - ATMs are rare so load-up with dollars

Walking in the Picos de Europa

this was my first walking holiday. Every aspect of the trip was very well planned and highly organised. I felt very welcomed at the airport at Bilbao by our guide Alvaro. He proved to be such a fantastic guide.,.. knowledge, passionate, considerate. Hotel was basic but food was fantastic

I will recommend this trip to anyone.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the George

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic... could not fault him in anything. He knew the area and the paths very well. He adapted and catered for every level of group participants. He was passionate about the area and had lots of general knowledge about the area and people. His English was good. PERFECT!!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes, this walk has been classified as 3 but it is at least grade 5. So they should be made aware of this
