Rodopi Mountains

This trip was delightfully different from other European trips that we have enjoyed. The local people were warm and friendly and appeared content to work in the fields or sit with the cows in a high pasture all day. The difference between our fast paced life style and their post communist lives was marked.
The scenery was beautiful, very ‘vertical’, with rare pre-ice age flowers. Even the long drive from and too Sofia was interesting and our driver surely the most competent in Bulgaria.

Most Inspirational Moment

This is a difficult one. Was it seeing ancient Soviet agricultural equipment, people working in the fields, the prospect of seeing bears and wolves? Maybe it was meeting local ladies who were chatting and embroidering slippers, or dancing with the folk singers from the village? Probably, it was just the sheer beauty and tranquillity of the area.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nelly's love and knowledge of Bulgaria shone through at every meadow, mountain and forest. Nothing was too much trouble and her care was always evident. She was an outstanding leader and made this a wonderful and exciting trip for us both.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take an empty plastic sandwich box for packed lunches, and lots of memory for your camera.

Stunning Trip

This is an outstanding trip, with stunning locations and views, which can not be highly recommended enough. The itinerary prepared by Exodus ensured that we got the most out of the trip. For us, the camping enhanced the mountain outdoor experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

This is a joint review & for me it is impossible to pick one inspirational moment - the whole trip truly was an inspiration. For my husband it was the culmination of the 1500m (4500 feet) ascent from Les Bossons to Brevent (like Where Eagles Dare!).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jeff was an outstanding leader. He clearly has a passion for everything outdoors. He not only guided but also fully informed you at every opportunity as to the flora, fauna and wildlife - his background in biology came through in the knowledge he was able to impart. He also managed the groups various skill and fitness abilities in a very delicate manner where everyone was made to feel that they had achieved. He was sociable outside of guiding and had a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are of a good level of fitness then this trip will require some effort from you but you will be able to enjoy it to the full. If you fail to prepare then you are preparing to make life very difficult for yourself and you won't get the full benefit of enjoying this amazing trip. Make sure you have good kit to equip you for rain or sunshine. There are washing machines and tumble driers at most of the camp sites so no need to over pack. Be prepared to muck in at mealtimes with preparing/packing away the dining area.

Excellent walking trip in the Dolomites

An excellent trip which I would highly recommend to other walkers. Each day’s walk takes you to a different part of the Dolomites to explore and enjoy. Alex, our group leader, had very good knowledge of the area and could adapt our walks based on the weather conditions and was able to share his historical information with us. The hotel, Hotel Alder, in Villabassa, was a treat to come home to every night – the food was superb and the staff were very friendly. There were 12 of us in the group and we all got on very well indeed which made for a very good week.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last day's walk on Monte Piano was very special. We were lucky with the weather and had blue skies and lovely sunshine making the views just amazing. However, thinking about the events that had taken place up there during the war was a very sobering moment.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was an excellent group leader and kept our group together very well which made for a very united group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for all weather conditions in one day!

Discover the Baltics.

This was a 12 day holiday covering three countries,Estonia,Latvia and Lithuania, so quite full on. Be prepared for living out of a suitcase as you stay in 7 different hotels. However it’s worth it as you travel through these beautiful countries, full of character, history and amazing architecture. Tallinn for it’s pretty cobbled streets, Riga for its fantastic Art Nouveau architecture and Vilnius for its quaint and Old Town. You need a good pair of walking shoes as you can do up to 3-4 hours wandering around cobbled streets,or through forests. I would so suggest you carry an umbrella as the weather can be quite changeable even in the summer months!

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting the Holocaust museum in Vilnius left me reflecting how we as humans can be so destructive and cause so much pain. It made me realise just how much the people of Lithuania had suffered at the hands of others,so afterwards feeling rather low a few of us visited the Cat cafe, for coffee and a a little cuddle with a few moggies!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Migle was a great group leader, not only was she was a mind of information she had a great sense of humour and made the trip a very memorable one. She was great with time-keeping and extremely well organised. One chap got rather lost when venturing out on his own and she managed to find him and bring back safely.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I think the 'trip notes' were slightly misleading as you were lead to believe there might be longish walks; well I certainly thought so. However, we rather sauntered through the various towns we visited, and the walk in The Forest of Witches was not very tiring an only took about an hour. On this walk I recommend insect repellent though. Also don't be put off by the thought of a swim in the Baltic Sea it was 18 degrees and I wish did brought my swimming stuff with me! Also take an umbrella; I went in July and it rained a fair bit,but when the sun came out it was extremely warm , so have your sun cream to hand.

Well managed bike tour

A well planned tour, very enjoyable and educational.

Most Inspirational Moment

Riding through the Czech National Forest. Seeing and learning the history of the iron curtain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very accommodating, mature and approachable. It's a real bonus that Jan is from Slovakia and he understands the history and background of the nearby countries. One of our fellow rider had a 'minor' accident on the trip and had to receive medical attention. I think the leaders handled the situation very well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get into decent cycling shape before going on this trip.

Rocky Wilderness Walk

Excellent organization, a lot of fun and beautiful places. Perfect evenings with excellent grill food from best guide I ever had. Great people all over the world!

Most Inspirational Moment

First view of tourqase colour Lake Louise.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Best leader I ever had. Mac, thanks for all joy, lot of information about nature and all the beautiful places we saw!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be positive and just enjoy!

Camino di Santiago

This was a great trip! We wanted to spend some time walking in Spain and this seemed like a good way to do it. Starting in Leon and visiting the city was a good start, taking in some bars and restaurants in the sunshine. We had a great tour of the town with Blanca, our guide, who showed us round the cathedral and other places of interest. Having our own guide really helped to find out more about this city.
We opted for the short walk on the first day, which was a good decision as it was so hot that day. From Day 2 onwards, we enjoyed beautiful walking through the Galician countryside – hills and valleys to begin with, then more rolling countryside for the next few days, with lots of woodland paths and good shade. The weather was very kind to us – warm with nice breezes – ideal walking conditions.
We stayed in a variety of places – all lovely rooms, and good service overall. There some beautiful historic buildings with thick granite walls, reminding us of the history of this walk and the millions of pilgrims who have travelled this route for a thousand years!
The trip notes were very good, though it is easy to find your way with so many sign posts and yellow arrows to follow. We could always find somewhere to eat or drink when we needed to, and found some delightful quirky hostelries along the way.
I think the route is ideal – taking in Leon to start the trip and using taxis to miss out the mundane parts of walking out of Leon made sense for us – also, having a slightly shorter day’s walking in the middle of the trip helped us to catch up physically.
I would recommend this trip to anyone who would like to walk part of the Camino – I feel like I have been on an interesting journey as well as completing a physical challenge which I thought I might not manage!
We had a great time!

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunset at O Cebreiro Romanesque churches Galician countryside Local food - cheese, ham, bread, wine etc. Visiting the cathedral at Santiago Sense of achievement of completing such a long journey! I loved our room at Pazo Santa Maria! O Muino Mill and Casa de la Somoza were also nice. Food at Rectoral de Goian was excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you break in your boots! Take a wide brimmed hat. Remember to stamp your pilgrim's passport!

Discover the Baltics

An introduction to the present day Baltic states and to their long and complex histories. Despite many wars and invasions much of their heritage survives for you to admire. They cherish their freedom – when you see the evidence of the Soviet occupation you can understand why! The tour covers a lot of ground but at a sensible pace leaving time for your own sightseeing.

Most Inspirational Moment

The three old towns of Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius are fascinating.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jolita was very good. An excellent leader, knowledgeable guide, and ever willing to answer questions and offer advice.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Expect changeable weather! This is northern Europe. Tallinn old town can be a bit crowded in the middle of the day due to cruise ship parties so do your own exploration early and late in the day Meals in "international" restaurants can be pricey. Go to the local restaurants which are just as good and are cheaper.
