Vietnam Adventure

A great trip offering a very good insight into Vietnam, its culture and people. Very varied in terms of places visited.
Covered a lot in 2 weeks which meant it was quite hectic at times and lots of early starts.

Most Inspirational Moment

Loved the cruise on Halong Bay - it was the most scenic part of the holiday. Also thoroughly enjoyed overnight stay at the Homestay. The house we stayed at was delightful and the surrounding area very peaceful and serene. Also enjoyed the cycle rides through the paddy fields and to the local market.

Hai was a great guide. Nothing too much trouble for him. Recommended some great restaurants and eating places including street cafes and local eateries. Offered a good range of optional excursions and activities but never pushed them on us. Had a great sense of humour and bonded well with our group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel as light as you can as there are several opportunities to get laundry done very cheaply by local people (our guide arranged this in Hue and Hoi An). Take dollars with you (especially 1 dollar notes) as they are accepted almost every where (even by the laundry people) and are often preferred to dong.

Unforgettable

This was our first group cycling holiday and our first trip with Exodus and it did not disappoint. The cycling is really well planned with great backup and the places we visited combined to give us a varied taste of this unique and fascinating country. We found ourselves in great company – the group really gelled and we had a ball.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views in the Sierra Maestre, the most challenging cycling day - reward for our effort; the atmosphere of Trinidad at sundown and the music, the people and sights by the roadside throughout the trip, the walk in the forest on day 10, snatched swims in pools and the sea and the fabulous evening out in Havana that rounded off an unforgettable holiday

Thoughts on Group Leader

Angel was just the best - calm and kind, managing all the unknowns one encounters in Cuba expertly. His insights into life in Cuba were comprehensive, and utterly fascinating - history and facts of course but always delivered with personal anecdotes and in a funny and insightful manner. We all loved him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Talk yourself out of using WiFi any more than is absolutely essential - it's frustrating, expensive and hard to come by. Have a break! Also, as Exodus advise, if you want snacks of any kind or hydration additives do take them as there is very little available, same goes for suncream - basically take all you need with you and don't rely on shopping .

Discover Coast Rica Birds

We choose the bird watching guide holiday and we saw over 200 bird species as well as animals, reptiles and butterflies. The guide was amazing at spotting birds and other wildlife and indicating to the group.
Lodges were great and food tasty and often local.
The minibus and driver made the journey and we had WiFi almost continuously on the bus!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Resplendent Quetzal bird in Saverge

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable and inspirational

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that if the bird watching trip is chosen that there is little opportunity for other activities at most locations

Fantastic holiday

This is a great introduction to South Africa. The trips are varied with optional activities available. The scenery is stunning and the minibus is comfortable and air conditioned. We tried the zip lining which was well worth experiencing.

The restaurants were excellent and we ate far too much, regretting it a bit now! Our accommodation was very comfortable and most had fantastic views.

Most Inspirational Moment

It is hard to pick one moment as I loved it all. Seeing the animals in Addo NP, visiting Robben Island and listening to an ex political prisoner describing his experiences, and being on Table Mountain were all unforgettable moments.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Justin was a brilliant guide who worked hard to ensure everyone had a wonderful holiday. He was knowledgeable, good fun and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that the weather can can be very changeable. We had rain, wind, hail, lightening and hot sun. Some activities may have to be cancelled due to reasons beyond the control of Exodus. We were glad that we stayed an extra day in Cape Town and toured the town on the open top bus.

Kvitavatn - Cross Country Skiing

This trip had everything I was looking for, fantastic location with a 360degree mountain panorama, classic Norwegian lodge accommodation, healthy yet plentiful food and great leaders.

The leaders were effective at developing our skills, in a fun way, yet appreciating we are on holiday. Once our skills were developed we were taken to some fantastic off the beaten track locations. I have never had so many ‘wow’ moments and taken to lunch spots to die for!

The ‘apres’ ski was varied too, a combination of informative talks, films, a fun quiz and slide show of the weeks pics.

Fantastic trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing to a high point up a frozen waterfall and having the most amazing, unspoilt views and no one else in sight!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing. Helpful, knowledgeable, patient, informative, caring, effective.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a range of clothing because it can either be really warm or really cold. Take a thermos Flask - hot drinks are essential. You don't need to take a lunch box as plastic bags and cling film are made available.

Fantastic Trip

This was the first time I have travelled with Exodus and I was very impressed. I have travelled with other small-group adventure companies in the past, but I have to say for smooth, efficient organization, quality of hotels, and quality of tour leader, Exodus is probably the best. I was also very impressed with the quality of the bikes that were provided.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling around the Angkor Wat site was magical. Cycling along the back roads of the Mekong Delta and being greeted by a chorus of hellos and frenzied waving from small children was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chai was wonderful. He was very organized and kept us informed at all times. He was also patient, kind, encouraging, and thoroughly likeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring gel seats or better still, your own bicycle seat that is good for long distances. The bikes are excellent, but the seats are uncomfortable for long distances.

Rongai - Feb 2017

I consider myself to be fit but do not underestimate the final ascent/descent…… it is extremely hard work. We completed in 9.25 – hindsight tells me we should have gone slower as I had a pounding headache and was exhausted at the end. It doesn’t help that you then have another walk in the afternoon to cope with ! The walking prior to the ascent was a breeze if that helps ! The organisation was excellent but be prepared for very early nights and then being wide awake early on … food was first class and plenty of it. We were lucky with the weather (Feb) I would not want to walk Kilimanjaro in the rain and wind. Good luck

Most Inspirational Moment

It should have been reaching the summit but I was too exhausted to be inspired by it - the views at sunrise however are absolutely incredible and the clear skies filled with stars at night

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very motivating

Advice for Potential Travellers

When you begin the ascent, half the pace you are comfortable with .... I didn't take diamox and think my headache was caused by the hood of my jacket rather than altitude- make sure your clothing is comfortable before you start as you will be too cold to adjust it

The Best Holiday Ever!

A great way for a complete beginner to experience cross country skiing and make lots of progress in a short time. We were tutored for nearly 6 hours on each of 6 days so even a complete novice and scaredy-cat, like me, was able to have enough skill to safely negotiate different types of terrain within a couple of days. You WILL fall over, which is fun in the soft snow (although sometimes hard to get back up from) but does hurt a bit on the hard, prepared tracks. The scenery was fantastic, I never felt cold because we were active, and the company was incredibly friendly and supportive. We were with our group (14) for meals, warm up/down exercises and in the evening but we divided into 2 (ability) groups to ski, which worked well.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved all of it, from first learning to snowplough through playing on the sparkling, crisp, virgin snow on the lake to touring and seeing the beautiful views from the higher terrain. Picking up speed on the prepared tracks and successfully cornering for the first time as well as traversing down through deep snow were thrilling (even though I am not a speed nor thrill seeker and would dread downhill skiing).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mary and Ilse were completely dedicated to making our holiday the best it could be. I was very impressed with the amount of attention we each received and their skill in coaxing the nervous as well as challenging the talented, so that everyone got the most from the experience. They were very professional, knowledgeable and great fun to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

What are you waiting for? Just do it!

Vietnam Adventure and Angkor Wat

This was an excellent tour which enabled us to see and experience the many faces of Vietnam. It was fairly “full on” with some early starts but this was necessary in order to cover so much in the time. At the same time, it didn’t feel rushed and there were plenty of opportunities to explore on your own. The Angkor Wat extension, which 4 of us did from our group, was definitely worthwhile and certainly lived up to its reputation as one of the wonders of the world. It needed the nearly 3 days to do it justice. Being in Siem Reap and then Phnom Penh gave us chance to experience the differences between Cambodia and Vietnam. May be one extra day might have enabled some further exploration of other aspects of Cambodia such as the fishing villages but overall the balance was very good.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many experiences make it very difficult to highlight just a few. Halong Bay and overnight on the boat, the overnight train was interesting even if you wouldn't want to repeat it too often!,the bike rides, the Mekong and the homestay and getting to know the people. On a more sombre note, the visits connected with the war were a cause for reflection. This applied to Cambodia as well with the visit to the "killing fields" contrasting with the grandeur of the Angkor Wat sites.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hai was a brilliant leader with great enthusiasm and a sense of humour which went down very well with our group. He made sure that we got as much out of our visit as possible by giving us numerous opportunities to sample Vietnamese life in terms of transport, food, chatting with locals and imparting his sound knowledge of his country's history when it came to sightseeing. In Cambodia, both Sokhom for Angkor Wat and Thida for Phnom Penh were first rate guides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the Travel Notes before committing. If you don't like early starts and and a busy itinery then this is probably not for you. However, if you want to experience as much as you can on a tour, then this trip would be no problem.

Discover Namibia

A fascinating kaleidoscope of scenery, climate and nature. From daunting, towering sand dunes, long desert roads, breezy Atlantic coast to exciting, animal filled plains. Always something to watch and thrill!

Most Inspirational Moment

Suddenly the six lionesses that had been dozing under a bush went into action. They started stalking, very slowly, evenly spaced out in an arrow formation. The leader in front, two behind and the other three at the back. Quite impressive!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronney had excellent organisational skills and seemed to call on his ancestors when we wished to see something. Luckily his ancestors were agreeable!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long drives on dusty, dirt roads. Namibia is a big country.
