Visiting the city of Matera
The group leader, Vanessa, is a dynamo. She is upbeat and considerate and made the entire experience a joy.
The holiday was very well organised. At the beginning we were met by one of the leaders at Venice airport, who accompanied us on the coach to the hotel. The hotel was comfortable, excellent food, and friendly staff. It was really good to have two grades of walks to choose from. Both had a good variety of fabulous scenery scenery and mountain experiences. The two leaders were very helpful, accommodating, competent and knowledgeable, and worked hard to make our holiday so wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone who loves mountain adventures.
All the amazing scenery, and the camaraderie of the group and leaders.
Very friendly and approachable. Knowledgeable about flora, fauna, geology, landscape and local communities. Very competent, skilled leader who worked hard to ensure that everyone was safe and enjoyed themselves.
This is a fabulous holiday in stunning scenery.
Excellent holiday in a beautiful area for walking. The walks were well organised and gave us a great introduction to the area. Importantly, the accommodation, the staff and particularly the food was outstanding. I thoroughly recommend this holiday.
The panoramic views of the Picos from the top of the hills we climbed.
Alfonso was an excellent group leader. He was well organised, informative and very attentive. He has a great sense of humour and was a significant reason for the great atmosphere amongst the Group
Very much a trip worth making and a thoroughly enjoyable holiday
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the trip and was so impressed with how well we were looked after. All the travel arrangements went smoothly, the chalet was great and the food superb (thanks Zohi & Ben) and our guide Sally was brilliant. I’ll definitely recommend Exodus to my friends and I’m already thinking of another trip.
The scenery in Italy. and the biscuits and coffee at the Bonatti Refuge
Sally was excellent. Really helpful and knowledgeable
Just enjoy it. Worth getting moderately fit and used to rough hill walking so you'll take it all in your stride
Our guide Sebastian was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Corsica as well as the history of the island. He has a great sense of humor which makes any trip more fun. The train is super convenient for the trip. Easy walk from the hotel and usually a short train trip to another village and then a hike. Excellent variety of terrain and views. Usually around 5 hours on the trail each day. Good hiking boots and poles were much appreciated. The accommodations and food are adequate and serve the purpose well.
The hike on the last day is a very challenging climb where you are rewarded with stunning views at every turn.
Outstanding.
Don't let the moderate accommodations steer you away from choosing the trip. The entire trip is brilliant from start to finish.
Great way to see the beautiful Sardinian West coast, including salt pans, flamingos, the dramatic coastline & turquoise seas.
The Costa del Sud was truly spectacular; the annual San Salvatore festival in Cabras; the giant sand dunes of the Costa Verde and the islands of San Pietro & Sant’Antioco. All of it really!
Both Alessandro & Simone were superb: multi-tasking, great local knowledge, dealing with logistics, accommodation, restaurants, fixing bikes, making us a superb lunch. And they were brilliant when one of our group had a bad fall. They are both passionate about their country & it showed.
My knees are knackered (little/no cartilage) and although I cycle at home, my knees would never have coped with this trip without an e-bike. There are some very challenging hills. Even the keen cyclists in our group felt that it would be better described as Moderate/Hard. With an e-bike it was still a challenge but a very satisfying one. Also it was incredibly hot - if the trip was offered mid-late September/early October, I think it could be even more enjoyable.
Having been on several Exodus trips before I was unsure of what to expect as I not done any trips as remote as this. Not removed from civilisation but bit on the verge of wilderness.
The walks produced breathtaking scenery of the mountains and forests, all conducted at a leisurely pace mainly over unmade paths, meadows or very easy woodland walks, which posed no problems for any of the group.
Although not able to see every animal that inhabits the forest there presence was evident. The added option to under the guidance of a local ranger, see the brown bears in the wild is something that should not be missed. This was defiantly a highlight of the trip.
The stunning scenery was only beaten by seeing the Brown Bears in their natural environment which was by far the highlight of the trip, this was even more so augmented by visiting the bear sanctuary which was heartbreaking to see and hear how thes poor animals had been persecuted for the amusement of humans.
In Thomas we could have not had a better guide for our holiday. He was both funny and increadably knowledgeable about the environment and the history of his country. On any of these groups holidays the guide plays a pivotal role and Thomas really help make the week special and an unforgettable holiday.
Located within the mountains the weather can be changeable host to hour so would suggest a good light weight rain coat/clothing, again good walking boots are definitely an advantage. Walking poles are an advantage on some of the walks, but I do have a slightly weak knee. I took £100 in the local currency and spent a little over, being able to pay the hotel for the visit to the Bear hides and the honesty bar in Euros helps with this.
Limestone everywhere! Be sure to wear good hiking boots. This rock can be jagged or super slippery. It comes in all sizes, large, small, crushed, pebbled. It’s everywhere! And you’ll be walking on it. There are very little earthed paths in this itinerary.
That aside, I felt I saw a lot of Croatia on this tour. The hikes were varied, but most were ascending, to get the best views of Croatia’s best attribute – the sea and the shoreline.
Food was amazing. And our guide was the best guide I’ve had to date – and I’ve had a lot of guides. Ivan was proactive, considerate and he went out of his way to be available for all our needs – including arranging a doctor’s visit for my daughter when she wasn’t feeling well.
From touristy Dubrovnik to quieter areas, such as Bol and Zadar, this tour offers the best of Croatia. If you are a hiker, I’d recommend this tour. Just be sure to wear good boots!
My favourite day was the hike in Paklenica with lunch in the mountains. Homemade brandy and accordion playing topped the day.
Ivan is THE best! Don't ever lose him!!!!
Hiking boots, definitely.
The Picos are a beautiful part of Spain, lush and green with limestone peaks and very quiet. Apart from on the gorge walk we saw very few people when we were walking. The hotel owners describe the hotel as a one star hotel with five star views and the views certainly are fabulous but I wouldn’t describe the hotel as one star! More as simple, homely and friendly! The food at the hotel was very good. The hotel owners, Jim and Pilar, are very good chefs and spent a great deal of time each day to produce a really tasty 4 course dinner for us which was very welcome at the end of each day. We had a lovely group and a great guide and I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes walking in beautiful scenery.
The beautiful scenery and wildlife - vultures, eagles and chamois! Clear, starry skies at the hotel.
Alfonso was our guide and he was lovely - caring, thoughtful and fun.
Book it!
a great trip with some tough climbs. good company and great weather, thanks Exodus
the long climb on the last day. 1600 meters of climbing in the day, tough but rewarding when I got to the top.
great leader, couldn't fault him.
the fitter you are the more enjoyable the holiday will be.
